I am learning quite a bit from all of you, but... really, what is THE most important thing you have learned?

It's a culmination of a few points, instead of one single important thing.
    • Always measure your business progress, and tweak.
    • Always cut out the crap, because of the 80/20 rule.
    • You never ever sell, the prospect buys.
    • Customer service is highly crucial.
    • Perceived value is always essential, but physical value is long-term.
    • Branding
    • Specialization is easier than taking a monster competitor by the horns

Tons more, but I'm sure other Warriors have insights to input as well.

Dido! I've also learned that it's extremely important to build a great relationship with your list. Not only with your list but with peers in your industry.

It took me some years to really realize the power of relationship marketing, but I'm glad I finally have!

Another important thing I've learned is that it's important to track and test EVERYTHING you do in your online business. This isn't talked about nearly enough but tracking and testing will save you a TON of money in the long-term.

Thank you for this question. It is an excellent question. Without a doubt the most important thing I have learned in my time online is to build a list and take care of that list.

An email list is the most important asset you have online. You build trust by providing valuable content on a regular basis. Little by little you market to that list, but you lead with value and ask questions and listen to your subscribers first. When somebody comes in brand new to this online world, they need to start working on that first. Provide value to people and listen to them instead of screaming your offers to them all the time.

I hope this helps. I think it is key to success online.

I learned quite a lot. But I`ll mention just the main points:

-Never be lazy and always accomplish what you have started
-Thrive to do your best whatever you do
    -Pay attention to small details
-Analyze on what you do wrong and right and try to self-improve and perform better
-Always follow up and don`t handle important things to someone you are not sure about

In the words of Nike, JUST DO IT!

best way to learn is to just jump in, after learning the basics of course... if you just keep researching and not doing, progress will be slow... just get stuck in, make a few mistakes? sure, but best way to learn... and stick at it.

I agree wholeheartedly with this advice. How to actually take action?
Build a routine to motivate yourself each day...listen to inspirational tapes, read quotes, meditate, read books or whatever you enjoy but start each day with time set aside for this purpose. Get fired up and take action.

To increase your skills spend another portion of your day mastering a skill from an expert teacher. Focus on that area until you feel comfortable in it before jumping to something else. Get really good at one thing. Get good at facebook, or you tube and build a list.
Master those and build a website if that is your desire but don't jump all over. Do what you like. You can make great money mastering only one of those three to begin. But as others have said...build a list from these sources and build a relationship with that list.

You can make alot of money with a little bit of traffic. I've seen sites that get only around 50 hits per day make more money than sites with 500+ daily traffic (targeted too). It all depends on your niche on what you're selling.

I've seen that too. I know of people who are in the Top 100K on Alexa and only get around 100-200 uniques a day and make a living from their site so this is the truth. Quality over quantity ANY day of the week.

    Actually,

I think principles I've learned have helped more than any particular strategy. For example, the principles taught in the book, "The 4-Hour Workweek" by Timothy Ferriss was a tremendous eye opener for me.

    I highly recommend it.

One of the ideas is learning to focus. Remove the distractions from your day. Learn how to say "no". Stop going after every new product, method, system, program, loophole, etc. etc. and learn how to build a business.

Don't be afraid to work hard...but don't just work to work. (Don't do "busy work.") Make a plan with daily, weekly, monthly goals, and stick to it.

Hope you don't waste your time on random stuffs. Focus on one thing at a time you're not an OS to work as a multitasking program. you're a human, live with it and concentrate on one thing.

A little bit every day goes a long way. Don't be obsessed with perfection, you'll never reach it. Focus, focus, focus. Do one thing at a time and do it well, and get it out of the way. What gets measured gets managed, so pay careful attention to yourself. You can do a lot more than you think you can if you focus and eliminate/restrict distractions. Remind yourself of the big picture every day.

What a great topic. I always enjoy topics like these. Thanks for starting it.

I always see posts about "trying your best" but honestly, I think that just like striving for perfection, trying your best creates undue pressure and often leads to procrastination.

The truth is, we can always do better. So how can we do "our best" at anything?

I would say that "BE your best but DO good enough" is my best learned lesson in all aspects of life but especially in creating value for the marketplace.

When most people are starting off they think they are unworthy of sucess but as you do more, you realize that you have value and the more vaklue you contribute to your life, your site your content, your list, your everything materializes into mass sucess!

Internet marketing is like being in space - you can go way off track real easy and never get to a destination. Best option is to find somebody or something to follow that is already successful and follow them - I haven't done anything yet that hasn't benefited from education in that area. If it's internet marketing or network marketing, you need to know how to market - the internet or the network is just the vehicle.

The most important thing in business is by far marketing, second to it is selling.

It doesn't matter how good is your product/service, if you don't know to market it, and when prospects come, to sell it to them, then everything else is useless. And this goes from the heart!

Hey man, great question. For the Newbie, I'd say focus ALL your initial efforts and learning to properly build a list - and APPLY it! I wasted a year on SEO, and whilst it still has it's place, Google's constant updates make it VERY hard to stay ahead of the game. With a list, you've got INSTANT access to people who want to hear from you (that's if you're doing it right). And you can literally make money at the push of a button if you're looking after them properly.

I'm sure many of the other seasoned marketers have said something similar, but I just wanted to re-enforce the message. And I only WISH I had that same advice when I was starting out :-)

i listen to music while working. one album is usually 45 minutes long and i plan my workday like that. 1 album and then 5-10 minute break. i don't know if it works for other people but this keeps me in focus.

also, i avoid social networking sites while working. i hate aggregation sites like mashable while working. BUT, i reward myself with a good read from these sites during lunchbreak and after working. : )

IM is a business but one that takes time to build and grow. It is no different than any other business out there. Therefore, it is absolutely CRUCIAL that you have your cash flow needs taken care of UNTIL your business is at a point where you can rely on it 100% for your livelihood.

Jumping into IM without taking care of your own needs is like skating on very VERY thin ice.

The best and easiest way to make money online is to always follow the money. Instead of creating a product/service then trying to look for traffic, go to where the traffic is and where products and services are already being bought in huge volumes and create a business based on that existing market.

There comes a time in life when you have to let go of all the pointless drama in your life and the people that create it, and surround yourself with people who make you laugh so hard that you forget the bad and focus solely on the good! After all, life is too short to be anything but happy!

I have found that not only is this true about life in general, but that it holds true in the business arena as well. Letting go of the pointless drama makes you happy and when you are happy you are more productive and when you are able to be more productive, you're able to be more successful.

If you want to build an online business that lasts, here's the most important lesson you'll ever learn:

    Build a community.

    A thriving online community can...
    • Survive any Google update
    • Sustain itself with new content, new product ideas and a "snowballing" audience
    • Make it very easy to stay in touch with your readers

There's no better way to build trust than by promoting fellowship among your audience. This lesson is what helped me successfully launch Affluence.org when I was nineteen, and it continues to act as the foundation of my current startups.

And by the way, building a community doesn't just mean setting up a Facebook Page (although that's not a bad idea!). It's more about the general tone of your product/service (if you run an offline business) or content (if you run a website). Make your customers or readers or whatever feel like they're part of something.

    Anyways, just my two cents.

Simplicity - most people over complicate the process.

Perfectionism - stay away from trying to be perfect. You can't. Just do it.

I'm going to say the opposite of what some others have said . . . I'm going to say that it is vital to do LOTS of different methods, even if most of them fail or don't get completed. You'll learn a lot more that way, and if you experiment with enough different methods, you'll at some point learn enough to make at least one of them work. If you stick with "do one method until it works" you've got much less chance of succeeding.

If you only found one method that made you a single Dollar: stick with it and scale the hell out of it :-) After you did that move on to find other methods, but not before.

Could not agree more on this...one problem I made when I started off was jumping around the new methods and strategies. Never really gave myself a chance or time to succeed with one method. I am glad that things are much better now.

This is a general question that most of us usually ignore. As for me, I learned a lot in internet marketing. I thought it was going to be easier than physically selling any product. However, I realized that it takes perseverance, effort and enough knowledge on how you will be able to promote your business and monetize it using the internet.
At first, it was a struggle. But, I'm thankful to the people who helped me out.

To be consistent, plan and setup a proper time management schedule to get things done.

You can learn all sorts of things such as list building, getting traffic, social marketing, content writing but if you don't setup a proper time management, your life is just going to be a messed forever. Trust me!

Plan your time management is the very first thing to learn.
