Hey folks my website is here

I am a self esteem life coach. I want to add a membership area to my website and allow people access to coaching that can`t afford my monthly one to one fees.

I had a look at this video as always I always come here to seek out advice before I try something new.

I know my site is not IM but Im hoping some of your general experience could guide me. thanks from Carol

    Hi Carol,

I see your site is built on wordpress. Check out digitalaccesspass.

Many folks around here use it.

Personally.. I'd probably bridge the wordpress to joomla,

tons more membership based features than wordpress.

Thanks for your advice A1 and Unknowcat. I have posted the job onto Elance and will see what kind of applications I get. Your not the first to suggest moving the site to Joomla and Im going to look into that too. Im away now to research digitalpass so many many thanks again.

You're welcome Carol, thanks for appreciating!

I'm a joomla extension developer and know the system quite well.
If you decide to do the transition feel free to find me on skype: omni.kneeland

I have several membership sites that I run through Wordpress and protect with Amember. Their customer service is great and I haven't had a problem with the process in several years. It might be more than you were looking to spend. Amember gives you access to different reports. I use Amazon S3 to host the videos.

Why not using a membership platform that was ACTUALLY developed to be such (since WordPress and Joomla were neither developed to do this)? Like aMember.

Makes more sense to use something intended for the job, rather than mods and add-ons to a product intended for Blogs or CMS

Although maybe you enjoy the excitement of all the WordPress and Joomla security exploits... along with the high resource usage exhibited by both WordPress and Joomla (slowing your site down and possibly getting you banned by your host) ...and want to live life on the edge?

Brian, I've been using joomla for years on countless sites and the worst security exploit I've experienced is a little forum spam a couple of times, and that's about kunena not joomla. amember might be great for membership, it might have been 'designed for it' as you say. Joomla handles membership just fine and has boat loads of extensions for members to use. And millions of members are using joomla sites! Honestly seems like you're hating on two very great systems that happen to power a huge amount of the internet. And as for resource use, again I've never had my host 'ban' me due to the fact that the joomlas are running, nor have I ever hear of that happening. If wordpress and joomla are as horrible as you say how come they're two of the most popular systems out there? Your comments interest me a bit but haven't swayed my faith in Joomla!

    Hey Carol,

I've set up a lot of membership sites and I'm pretty partial to DAP, myself. You can continue to blog using Wordpress as usual, and manage your members from your wordpress dashboard. No need to switch to Joomla or mess with aMember IMHO, especially since your site is already set up on Wordpress.

Good luck and ping me if you need some assistance!

    Best Wishes,
    Vic
