This has happened to quite a few people on the forum, check some of the threads.

Unfortunately, you're at the mercy of PayPal and there's not much you can do about it...their game, their rules much like Google.

Call them and tell about your problem. There might be some possible reasons for this.

    1. Where that $3000 came from? did you deposited it yourself or somebody sent it to you?

    2. If somebody sent you that money, did you had any past transactions with PayPal? and how big, like $5-100,$100-500,$500-1000,$1000+

Calling them up ussually helps, espcially if you work with them and dont just flame them on the phone. Calm yourself down and speak to them in a polite manner and they will help you out.

best advice ever for dealing with customer service. I've managed customer service for the past 15 years and believe me - being polite with the operators can make a HUGE difference.

As the boss I usually authorize operators to cut the phonecall short if the customer is insulting them. They are there to provide support and help customers, not to be insulted for something that usually isn't even their responsability.

So yeah - if you call them definitely keep your calm at all times, be polite and you'll most likely have better service and quicker solutions than if you just scream and insult the operators. I understand your situation is urgent and very frustrating, but it wasn't the operators who blocked your account and they have procedures to follow, so be kind with them and help them help you :-)

      ciao!

It has happened to me before and they didn't even tell me why, they just said Its a risk! But yes after 180 days they let me withdraw or gave me an option to get a cheque from them, so i got a refund after 180 days.

I used to think that people who had their accounts suspended were scammers or blackhatters, but over the years I saw some reputable people who had their accounts terminated. Most of them reported having a lot of money deposited with them. Personally I've never had any problems with paypal but then again I never leave a lot of money there, even though I receive plenty of earnings and use it frequently.

Paypal will not do this if there is no suspicious/questionable transactions. Even if it's few dollars, if the money is from a stolen account, paypal will freeze the whole account while the source account is under investigation. Best thing to do is to call them.

not sure how paypal works, but when you call an italian call center and you ask to speak with a "supervisor" they'll just pass you to a collegue who will pretend to be the supervisor.

Why? because supervisors are busy...supervising! they don't have time to stay on the phone with the customers. And also there's that little thing that we're paying the operators to be on the phone with the customers... If I got on the phone with any customer who wanted to speak with a supervisor I'd be doing both my job and the operator's job, while they would just sit there, being paid to warm up a chair... it just doesn't make sense :-P

...mmhh, should I write an ebook on the dark secrets of customer service?? lol ;°)

Don't know about the Italian customer care services,

But from my experience I can tell that I talked to a supervisor when my account was terminated and the account was blocked to withdraw the funds for 6 months.I talked to him and he let me withdraw the funds same day.

Also the people managing this PayPal email address executiveoffice@paypal.com are very responsive compare to the other PayPal emails!

The 180 day 'permanent limitation' is the kiss of death from PayPal. It means they no longer want to do business with you for whatever reason they deem fit (e.g. they consider the types of goods or service you sell to be high risk). No amount of talking to customer service, or being nice, will have this decision reversed... In 180 days you will be able to get your money, but then you'll have to part ways with them.

Yes this is true. Best thing you can do is move on to a more secure provider with better customer support and more secure payments.

Its a hard lesson to learn but Paypal can be a nightmare.

Try other processors that accept Paypal but don't require an account such as 2Checkout Plimus and others.

Hope this helps. I am still waiting for the 180 days to be up on my account.

Been there as well. Same exact thing, 180 days.

Called it an "at risk" account due to high eBay sales (weird huh?)

After that 180 days, you'll get your money and never get a PayPal again.

They'll link your social to any new accounts you try to make and shut it down within weeks.

      Sorry it happened

I had that happen to me once in the past. I was running an ecommerce site making multiple sales daily that averaged over $200 per transaction. They flagged my account and gave me the same notice that they would be holding funds for 180 days. I gave them a call, explained to them that the transactions were coming into a legitimate business, and they removed the hold. It turned out I had a customer make a purchase from South Africa, which is what raised the flag.

Just give them a call, and like others have said below, keep your cool. No one wants to help someone that's screaming at them through the phone

      Simply not true.

A permanent limitation is called 'permanent' for a reason. This is the final step in account banning, and only occurs after failing the PayPal appeal process. A simple phone call would not fix this, because it would have already gone through a series of steps before the permaban was issued. And what you are implying is that anyone, such as a scammer, could simply call up and say, "hey, I'm legit, the money is from my grandma" and things will be all dandy. Anyone who has been in this situation knows that just doesn't cut it.

You're probably confusing a standard limitation with a permanent limitation. The former can be rectified, the latter cannot.

      Laurence,

An excellent point...... That is a "spoof" some people will fall for...

Back to the original poster's issue...

Either way, I'd call PayPal.... and nicely ask them what happened.

      Easy way to tell:

"Dear PayPal user, your account has been permanently limited..." [PHISH EMAIL]

"Dear FirstName LastName, your account has been permanently limited..." [LEGIT]

Where FirstName and LastName is your real and actual name.

Well, the long of the short of it is that you wont know until you call. We can speculate until the cows come home

Stay calm, explain the circumstances, have patience, work with the customer service rep first and if that doesn't get you any results, then ask to speak to a supervisor. Be aware that they may not change their mind.

But, getting angry, insulting the person on the other end of the phone or screaming ensures that they WILL NOT change their mind

You can roll over and accept this, or you can get on the phone and start trying to resolve this. PayPal is a bully, and I had this happen to me, but fortunately I just sent my money to my bank a few hours prior to them doing it. It was a bull shit reason, but it took me a month to find out what the hell it was, so get on them and get it resolved.

next time, don't leave money in your account.

Give them a call and get their opinion. Their support lines are generally really fast especially if you're logged in.

We can only give you guesses. Though generally I've read that when individuals have too much transactions suddenly it can cause their accounts to be freezed.

Since about a Month or two ago Paypal really look at trying to avoid mistakingly freezing accounts with some high profile cases. I've notice they are really eager to solve the situation too when you call their support; not the typical back and forth imho

    here are 2 things :-

    1) Dont call them up irrate, tell them You are sorry and want to work with them.

    2) Paypal are actually very open minded and not just out to get you like some think. Just talk to them in a professional tone and you will get some good things to come back to you.

I am from australia and do not have problems now, when I warn them of a product launch or big promo via email, they do not red flag me anymore, they say their system is much better if you give them warning, and tell them what you are doing. And tell them, you are helping them make lots of money in trasaction fees....give them your sales pitch, and do not be rude....I have tried the rude tactic, and I can tell you first hand, they will ban u for life if you do this. Do not do this. Just be calm and say you want to work with them and resolve any problems, they are quite good to work with if you do things properly.

If history has taught us anything it's that usually when people say their account has been limited there is an explanation and reason for it. I suggest you go over their terms of use and read each part word by word and see where your product or account may have gone wrong. Paypal have been much better about this lately and you are the first person I have heard who has had their account limited for about the past 6-8 months. So I am almost certain there is something they saw and did not like. You just need to figure out what that was. Were you using hypey headlines? Selling coaching on creating products to sell?

In some cases that is true, but other cases are legit. I had one of my businesses' paypal account limited with about $8,500 in it. The account received 3 transactions of $1,250 each from Canada, France, and Spain. Paypals automated system flagged it as "unusual". I had to call them up, then ask to speak with the escalation department. It took about 5 days, then they lifted the limited account and I was able to deposit the money.

Another account/company we have for backlink marketing had its account limited for a week as it was flagged for too many $1.99 transactions within a short period. The account was about a month old. I also remember having about 5 disputes... I'm sure that didn't help.

Yes. So there was a logical reason for your account being limited. It set off their fraud alerts because it was unusual activity. That's exactly what is supposed to happen. But you then contacted them and they lifted the freeze. Frozen accounts are not uncommon. But if you can't get them to unfreeze your account then it's likely because you have done something you were not supposed to.

AND it's something that even banks freeze accounts for. A lot of us use PayPal so there's a lot of people who complain about them. If we all used the same bank, I'm sure you'd see more complaints popping up about that bank freezing accounts. Any financial institution is very strict when it comes to fraud and will shoot first and ask questions later.

Pay pal shut me down for one month because they were doing an investigation about a report that I bought for $17.77 and they thought the report I bought was suspicious. Funny, they did not close the guy selling it down ever. He is still up and running - even now. Report was about how to get back links for free - yes. Well, I was unable to sell anything on Ebay for one month and finally I called Ebay up. They put pressure on pay pal for me. They do not like to reopen. What is going on now. I rarely use Ebay or pay pal any more. Lesson to learn is avoid pay pal and Ebay as they are zeros.
