Launch announcements?

Hi all,

What's a good way to launch a WordPress Plugin? I am kind of limited on funds at the moment due to a house fire a few weeks ago.

Hard to say without knowing anything about the plugin. Is it something WF members would use? If so, run a WSO. It's relatively cheap and will give you a good baseline of the demand for your plugin. If it proves to be profitable, there are lots of directions you can go from there.

If you do want to run a WSO, try to find some influencers and see if they would be willing to revies/beta test your plugin. Offer them a big commission percentage if they like it and want to promote it to their audience.

You could upload some YouTube videos showing it in action, etc.

Also, you may get more replies if you change your thread title to "What's a good way to launch a WordPress plugin?" or something like that.

I'm interested in the response to this, too, because I have a product to launch soon. Lance's suggestion is a good one, though. It would seem that you cannot do an independent product launch (say on your site alone) without having a solid reputation and a long list of affiliates that you already have a relationship with. I see that Dyson's Optimize Press will be having one soon, and are busy collecting all the email they can get from the steady traffic they get on their site.

For a newbie with no list, the best bet will be to save some money and launch the product on good affiliate marketing sites, like this one, and others (e.g. JVzoo, etc). You should, as a matter of expediency, try to work with the heavy-hitters where you can to see how they can help you for an attractive commission/percentage/profit. It is only your first product and you will use the buzz around this one to do something more independent next time. Nothing goes for nothing, my man. You either do it the proper way or think waaay outside of the box to come up with something creative that will get your product noticed.

I have it listed on Jvzoo and made a few sales, but no affiliate sign ups at this time. I admit I need to work on the description, and at this time creating marketing material for affiliate use.

I have tried my social media channels, but every day things seem to get harder due to over saturation.

You need to raise the affiliate commission. 50% of a $10.95 product isn't going to entice a lot of affiliates to promote your offer. Probably none unless your plugin is so proven that it virtually sells itself.

Also, you have made very few sales and therefore don't have any data for conversion, EPC, or refund rate.

Do you have any OTOs or upsells attached to this offer?

If you're short on funds, you could look for a strategic partner to handle the marketing. That's still probably going to be tough due to your price point.

Another thing you could do is sell a few private label licenses to get a little quick cash. Then invest that money in getting some traffic to your own version and making some sales so you have some actual data for affiliates to evaluate.

If your plan is to let affiliates find you then you are destined for failure.

        Sorry, just talking from experience.

If you want any chance of having a successful product you need to go and find the affiliates yourself. Any affiliates you do get finding your product are generally pretty poor quality and won't make you many sales, if any at all.

If you haven't made many sales yet then here is another option. Don't sell it publicly. Go around and find some product vendors who would have lists that would be interested in your plugin. Offer them the chance to privately promote your plugin to their list and offer them a high commission for doing so. This exclusivity should make the plugin easier to sell and affiliates more likely to promote it. You could just go and fish it around to 5-10 big vendors and you could make a lot of sales provided the plugin is something people actually want.

I assumed he was talking about the one in his sig file since I looked on JVZoo and it's the only WP plugin he's selling on there.

Here is how I'd launch a wordpress plugin:

*Know what you're going to want to put out to the marketplace
*Hire an outsourcer to code it or learn how to code it yourself through PHP
*Get some beta testers on board to get the kinks out
*Build your website and membership site for buyers.
*Get JVs on board by networking and connecting
    *Launch

    Wash, rinse, repeat
