What Kind Of Results Can I expect From A Press Release?

I've been thinking about doing a press release for a couple of my sites that I just started but I wanted to know what kind of results some of you warriors have yielded from paid press releases.

Is it worth it? What kind of traffic spike did you notice?

It seems to me that it would be a good way to get lots of traffic but I wanted to get some advice before I spend 150 per release.

The only way you're going to know is if YOU test it yourself. No one can tell you if it;s a good fit for you and your products or services.

Everyone thinks differently when they put a press release together. Everyone thinks differently when they chose their biggest benefit. Everyone thinks differently as they write so it all depends.

$150 per release... well, it's not $150 per release ... it's $150 to tell you if you did a half decent job or not. If you get low results then that doesn't mean press releases suck, it means you suck at writing press releases. :p

I have seen people write press releases that get amazing results but I have also seen people who have gotten horrible results. It's not the method of whether press releases work or not, it's a matter of your own abilities to make that press release a success or failure.

      Go to Fiverr

You can have someone write a press release for you!

      And

have either them or someone submit it to Press release companies

it can save you some money!

Be careful not to judge the effectiveness of press releases by how much it costs you.

Sure Fiverr is cheap. But if your "press release" is spammed all over the net it could potentially be very costly to you.

Legitimate press release distributors command higher prices because they have established relationships with real contacts - the types of web sites that you and I would be hard pressed to forward one of our releases and have it sent out.

Check out some of these services as they have tutorials and helps on how to write a good press release.

Here's a suggestion: Write several different press releases and send them out via free release sites. Test and track results. Pick the winner. Then scale up by paying for a service like PRWeb to do your distribution.

Here is a list of free PR services.

        Good luck to you,

        Steve

You can definitely get a ton of traffic with press releases, but nobody is going to be able to answer your questions.

How much traffic you get completely depends on how convincing the PR is, where it's submitted to, and what major places pick it up and publish it.

I got a small spike in traffic after doing a press release. However, there is no telling how it may have helped me over time. I did so many things for traffic, there is no telling which one thing was to credit for the increase in traffic that occurred over time. People who follow the link from the PR may very well share your site with others. I think the more you get your site out there and the more links there are to it out in cyber space, the better.

Press Releases are not a powerful tool to drive traffic, if you are using it purely to drive traffic, you better off trying PPC.

Press Releases is powerful tool for SEO, it would get you good number of links ( assuming that the Press Release Service is good ).

If you are not a writer, I would recommend to hire someone ( no not on fiverr ) to write you a professional PR. I would also suggest to research and compare other press releases services. Some of them goes up to few thousands, you may want to find out why.

Press Releases say something about your website / company, I would highly recommend using it if you have something news worthy.

With that being said, I agree with Mike, you should go through it yourself to decide if it is worthy or not.

You will see a lot of members agree to disagree based on their experience.

It all depends on the quality of content, newsworthiness and ability to go viral. If you're writing about something actually news worthy (highly relevant, people talking about it, people looking for info on this topic, other similar stories in the news, etc.) then you could have a winner and tons of traffic.

However if you just write a description of your product or go over the same boring info that's already been talked about before... you will not see great results.

Press Releases are getting high authority ranking from Google nowadays. But your Press Release must be well written, and not some rewritten stuff. Also it gives your youtube video a high ranking too when you include your press release in your video description.

Thanks for all the replies. I was thinking about going with pressreleasemonkey.com where they write the press release for you. Has anyone tried this route?

My personal experience with press releases is not from IM but from running a non-profit website. I wrote a press release from PR Web. I wrote it myself and it was about an event we were having. Years later, I still had lots of search engine results from that release. I'm not sure it works the same for a paid service, but I'm certainly going to give it a whirl with my "for-profit" ventures. I think if you just stress the relevant keywords in your release, you can use free press release services and still get a good amount of exposure from them. If writing is really not your bag, sure, go to Fiverr, but you are going to be the most passionate about, and know the most about, your own product or service.

I have seen a lot of traffic, but very poor conversion. Mostly, it is tire kickers that are curious. Works great if you are giving an item away. However, these people do not want to pay.

No, they will pay for things that interest them, just like anybody else. It's how the offer is positioned when it's being presented. I've been doing a lot of studying lately on VSL's, actually taking a comprehensive course that has completely opened my eyes to the psychology of Video Sales Letters. (No not Ryan's course, this is much more in depth...) and I've already seen a lot of things that no one has ever talked about, hinted about, etc.

I'm of the opinion that press releases don't matter very much unless people/users/customers already love you. How are your sites doing? What kind of responses are you getting from the people who buy/use your products?

Press releases can get your stuff out to more people, but it won't make them love you more, or care. See seobro's post above- traffic but no conversions. It can look good for traffic stats, but ultimately might not be worth all that much.
