Anyone else notice their open rates go up after the GMAIL folder change?

Anyone else notice their list mail open rates go up after Gmail's recent changes? I am not complaining mind you but just shocked. I was under the impression that the open rates would go down. I am using Aweber but I am not sure if this is tied to the specific AR I'm using.

I am doing everything else the same. Same headline writing style. Same body text style. The only thing that's changed is Gmail's policy. Although, I noticed that Gmail accounts for only around 60% of my list.

My open rates are the same, maybe they decreased .5% or so. My bet is that you have a small email list and you're seeing normal fluctuations. There's no way that the Gmail changes could have helped you.

I keep my list around 6000 since I periodically delete people that aren't responsive. Also, my list is double opt in so only people who want to be on it get on it.

Don't worry too much about these things, just move on and carry on with your marketing. These changes will carry on happening on the internet and we have to adapt and go along as they come.

This could be fluctuations but it can also mean open rates have increased but you would have to see over a long period. If it is an increase in open rates just for you only then congratulations, you are unique!

My open rate is almost the same. I don't think that that new feature of gmail is going to kill imers. It might just slightly decrease the open rate.

    Thanks

Ehhh, I'm not so sure that that's the exact reason why your open rate has changed. Usually July is slow for my work/niche since most people are on vacation, but towards the end of July it's when things begin to change. August its nice, and September is money month for me.

Anyways, hope you are right but I've yet to see if your theory is true.

Interesting point regarding vacation time. However, most of my list members' vacation time is from March to June. So I am still stumped why the recent surge in open rates.

I seriously doubt that any increase in open rate is due to the recent Gmail changes. There are lots of reasons for fluctuations in open rates, but the most likely explanation for a "better" open rate is that you used a subject line that your subscribers thought was more interesting than usual.

Anyways... it's too soon to form any definite conclusions, as Gmail is still rolling out the changes across the board. But my guess is that open rates to lists in the "mainstream" niches will suffer more than lists in the "IM / make money" niches. But I don't see them getting better in any niche (due to the Gmail changes).

      Time will tell though.

I give instructions on my thank you page directing gmail users to also check under the 'promotions' tab. Then in the welcome email I play them a short video showing them how to drag and drop into the primary tab and create that rule for all of my emails. Seems to have done the trick.

I don't do email marketing, but I do notice now that when I click on "This is Spam" Google tells me that they can try and get me unsubscribed which is pretty freaking cool. I sometimes have problems when sending emails, my message will end up in the spam folder when talking to new customers, and now it seems I have not had that problem since the change. I still deleted the extra folders but it seems to be functioning a little better in actually filtering spam, today I woke up and instead of a couple spam emails in my inbox, and like 10 in my spam folder, there were 18 all in my spam folder and my inbox was clean.
