Hostgator migration - email timing/dns updates?

Hi - I just got an email from hostgator saying my account is being upgraded, etc. I read another thread with comments about this earlier.

- any advice on what to do to prepare for the migration? (I'm backing up all domains/content to a spare external drive, so they're imaged the same). Also trying to backup via cpanel phpMyadmin all mysql databases.

- I run a forum and many different wp sites as addon domains in this account; any big hassles/challenges/advice on what to do to make sure the migration all works correctly?

- they said they'd email me 48-72 hours before they start moving sites; I'm in the middle of launches as usual; any tips on changing the DNS nameservers in godaddy, the timing, on how to minimize site downtime?

many thanks, I always worry when I see things being changed like this, with my core business sites all being moved

I would definitely back up all of your domains like you are doing. Also I think GoDaddy might have a faster DNS update service, but typically when you update DNS with them it propagates pretty quickly. Definitely back up your databases along with everything else. It's understandably stressful but I think if you backup all of your data it should be fine.
