What Brings in More $- Info Products or Affiliate Commissions?

Been working full-time at this internet marketing thing for just over a year now. Curious as to how others fair. What is your main source of revenue, your info products or your commissions from affiliate marketing?

I have been focusing on creating info products but it takes me soooo much time to create them. Wondering if I should be focusing more on my affiliate marketing. Would like to know what others are doing successfully.

Personally, I would keep affiliate marketing. When you have the resources you can create a small $5-20 offering. I was in the negative mindset that I needed to create content worth justifying a $97 price tag.

My information products make most of my money for me. I do light affiliate marketing, but when i run out of products to sell, i typically promote my coaching and consulting services.

    I would.

Here are ten reasons why I think affiliate marketing is a better prospect, for most people.

selling info products is the way to make some good money as in my personal view you'll have more control on the quality of your product and your reputation which can get tarnished if you promote someone else's shitty product without due diligence.

So do due diligence, then, and promote only the good ones. That's hardly a reason for not being an affiliate, is it? You might just as well say that being an affiliate is better because if you're a vendor and sell your own crappy product, you're not going to do very well. What kind of logic is this?

I make my money through affiliate marketing.

Both options are fantastic ways to make money though. You need to choose the option that you enjoy the most.

You say it takes you a long time to write products? If you're saying that you probably aren't having the best time writing them?

Flag creating products and concentrate on selling other peoples for a while. Affiliate commissions are awesome. the money still means the same either way right??

In my opinion the main reason most people fail in IM is that they try and do everything themselves. If you specialize in the skills that you are really good at you will master them really quick and make the most money.

One more thing - if you decide to try affiliate marketing. Commit to doing it until you have mastered it.

  • The answer to the question: "what brings in more $", will depend on who you ask. I don't think there is a definitive answer, however my answer for what it's worth, is products first, affiliate marketing second.

This however is probably because I chose to focus my time, energy and funds over the years on creating products, and then attracting affiliates for them. Had I focused on affiliate marketing, then affiliate marketing would most likely have been my first answer.

The reason I chose to focus on creating products over affiliate marketing?

    1. Because as mentioned, I can find affiliates to promote our products.
Finding affiliates to help you promote someone else's product makes no sense, unless there is some sort of two tier program where you are paid as an affiliate for promoting a product, plus you earn a commission on each sale resulting from any affiliates you have referred to that same product. But why in the world would you spend time attracting affiliates to promote someone else's product, who then eventually end up competing with you to promote the same product??

Even brand name (guru) affiliate marketers that established themselves as such, have told me personally that even though they started off as an affiliate, they later realized that creating products and attracting affiliates was not all that difficult and time consuming if done right, and that much bigger money started rolling in once they completely switched their focus.

Most of the old school successful affiliate marketers who have lost their steam over the years selling other peoples products, now mainly focus on selling products showing you how to be a successful affiliate marketer based on their past success right? (This is a little secret that has been right in front of your face). In most of those products however, you will then find tons of links showing you how to promote their product. (shocking).

    2. When I recognize a gap in the market place for a product that only I can fill, or I can fill first, (minus a few copy cats who buy my products and copy them), then obviously I have to create that product first.

    3. based on the OP statement:

I have been focusing on creating info products but it takes me soooo much time to create them.
Once you have figured out how to draw up a plan / template in order to outsource significant time consuming tasks such as graphics design, sales page creation, and whatever else that is taking soooo much time to create product, then you will get a taste of being a merchant versus affiliate marketer.

There are of course successful marketers such as sexy shoes above,
who do affiliate marketing very well, and are happy doing so. You just have to find your own sweet spot I guess.

They're both very profitable which is why I do both. Overall affiliate marketing is easier though, since you don't need to create anything and there are no hassles.

I also do both. I make more as a vendor than as an affiliate, but that doesn't mean that you will too. Try different things, experiment and make money!
