Question for Blog owners who use banners

Is a static banner prefered over an animated banner? I'm just trying to get a feel of what people like who do put banners on their sites.

Thanks,
Dave

I will say split test both of them out. You will only know if you have the number.

      Hey,

I'm making some banners for a viral marketing campaign, to be used in a membership site. But I'm not sure whether people would prefer animated banners or static banners.

It was my fault for not clarifying my intent. sorry 'bout that.

I guess I could make them both, and let them decide. It would only take an extra two minutes per banner.

To much flash kind of irritate viewers. Subtle animations are ok.

On a side note I been experimenting with animate.css on widget ads (Those without animation) and I do get an increase in clicks. The animations are way different than flash and seem to pop out of the sidebar areas.

There is an issue with animate.css though. It only seems to work only in IE (Oh the Irony of that!) I took up the issue with the developer and he is ironing it out.

Dude. Seriously. Stop messing with banners. Unless you find a sponsor who just wants 'branding,' banners don't yield serious coin. Instead, use CONTENT LOCKERS for serious cash. Your time and effort are your most valuable assets. Don't waste them on low return monetization models like banners.

If you insist on banners, use TEXT banners.

It's the members who will decide what they want to use, and I will give them every option possible that I can.

      Chill. Dude. Seriously.

Says the person who couldn't get banners to work for himself LOL

I've found, through buying lots of banner placements and running banners on one of my sites that gets between 6k and 7k unique visits a day, that the uglier the banner the better.

Just have a strong headline with call to action. Maybe an image, maybe not.

      But of course, test.

Wow. Your promo page in your 404 secrets is what I'm hoping to achieve anyway in my butterfly site. I'm not about to copy you, though, and tick you off.

        Thanks

Test test test test - sometimes blending the banner in works better, sometimes making it stick out like a sore thumb works better.

I would say both,it all depend on what works better for you.
It differs with different people advertisers..some go for static banner over an animated banner basically based on what work better for them.
    I would go for both
    Cheers!
