Audio Files Transcription

Hi,

Good day to all. I'm just new here and badly need help. Does anybody here knows any software or service where I can transcribe my audio files into text? I have tons of it in different formats and I have no time listening to all of it and transcribe it into words. I'm willing to spend a few bucks for it but better if it will be free.

Thanks,
Allan

Both Fiverr and Dragon Naturally speaking can help but they have SERIOUS shortcomings.

The problem with Fiverr is you only get transcription services.

You don't get proofreading with most packages.

Also, if you are using transcription services for WEB CONTENT, you need it EDITED.

You want engaging text that builds credibility with your target audience or builds audience loyalty.

Ultimately, it boils down to ... what did you expect for $5?

Similarly, Dragon Naturally Speaking can help but if you speak really quickly or your pacing changes or you're using nuanced words, DNS simply fails. Why? The amount of time you spend going back and fixing the errors is more than the amount you would have used simply WRITING YOUR ARTICLE OUT.

My recommendation? Hire a freelance transcriber that edits her/his work. You can get good ones for 75 US cents per audio minute.

I'm pretty sure you can find a good rate on one of the freelancer sites like elance etc.

If you really want to try (I haven't tried this on audio files), Dragon Naturally Speaking is a great tool for using your voice to text.

Just thought I'd chime in here. $5 for 10 minutes = $30 for one hour of audio. It typically takes 2.5 to 3 hours to transcribe one hour of audio, and proofing time. Keep in mind that while there are transcriptionists and companies who will transcribe ""quality" transcripts for very low rates, generally, the saying, "You get what you pay for," definitely applies in this field.

As a transcriptionist with over 25 years of experience, and rates as low as $45 per audio hour, I'm told all the time that I should charge more. However, I would rather have a steady flow of repeat customers than one or two, one-timers at higher rates. Remember, cheaper is not always better....

          Dragon Naturally Speaking.

You can get new for around $60.00 or you can get one of the older versions on ebay or amazon for $20.00 or $30.00

That's an interesting tool. It doesn't really transcribe-you do. But it does have a nice player and text processor.

        Hey,

I'd second writeaway's first post about Fiverr. There's plenty of great transcribers on there and most of them offer either revisions or refunds if you're not happy.

Software on the other hand can easily mess things up if the audio quality is bad or if the speakers have some accent, or speak too fast.

My personal favorite transcriptionist from Fiverr is the lady in my signature, Fiona. She offers both unlimited revisions, money-back guarantee and a nice and tidy format.

That's my two cents, I hope I could help.

        Best wishes,
        Mike

I wanted to chime in and add my favorite: Audio Transcription, Perfected

Here is what I like about them:

    1. Really fast turn around and you can see the progress of the transcription in real time.
    2. Each speaker annotated
    3. Time coded

You should hire freelancer to do this work, even you can use any software, but I think Freelancer work will be more reliable than software.

Thanks a lot guys. Just want to keep you all posted that I've chosen this transcription service https://speechtotextservice.com/.

Using online speech to text services you can convert audio files to text document easily and its more reliable than downloaded software.

Dragon is the most commonly used but can't be taken for professional purposes since you still have to train it.

You can also hire in elance, freelance, odesk, etc.

But one thing is for sure. As of the present technology in transcription, still nothing is free, unless you still do the work.

      Hope this adds up FYI.

I usually hire someone off elance. Just make sure you get a native English speaker - the results are more accurate that way.

Yep, used someone on odesk.com to handle a 85 minute file from a construction site tour with lots of background noise and stuff -- paid $50 -- might have got it for less, but it saved me several hours of anguish. Transcription isn't 100 per cent perfect, of course, but the time and stress saving was well worth the fee.

Have you tried VoiceBase - Store, Search and Share Recordings | Just another WordPress site ?

I've used them a couple of times not bad at all. They are free with a limitation for mp3 files. I think it's 75meg for the free version. There are loads of other things they can do.
I was very happy with the free transciptions I got which were from recordings that I could not hear what they were saying (mumbling).
(I am partially Deaf so that was a godsend for me).

I will add another vote for transcription gigs on Fiverr.

I recently hired a young lady on Fiverr to transcribe an almost 20 minute video, and got almost 2,000 words of content for my blog which passed Copyscape and plagium ::: plagiarism checker & plagiarism tracker ::: home testing for duplicate content.

    There are multiple ways to transcribe audio file;

    1) Using transcription software
    2)
Manually - Preparing some specific algorithm

As per my suggestion automated software never give 100% accuracy is only a myth. It is must be required to proofread & editing. My suggestion is that why should waste the efforts and time to do it yourselves, hire any professional transcriptionist or Just outsource to an expert transcription service provider.

I found someone on fiverr who did 30 minutes for $5.00 - just do a search on fiverr and find the ones that will do 30 minutes for $5.00, check the ratings and you'll be fine.

Yes, there are some software, but you will never get exact output. To get 100% accurate output, you have to work manually. In this case you can hire a freelancer from any freelancing market place. You have to choose the zonal freelancer of the Audio to get perfect work. Thanks

One transcription service I've used on many occasions is https://www.rev.com

It is a service that uses real people to transcribe so it does have a cost but that is minimal and given the high quality result it represents good value.

I'm aware this thread is old but if this info helps I'm glad.

There is a software that can do this. It is called Dragon Naturally Speaking or Dragon Software. It is quite expensive though and is not 100% accurate. I agree with some folks here about hiring some transcriptionists in Fiverr or other websites. Human transcription is more accurate than software.

I'm impressed that Dragon software can do what it does. However, I spent my money on what I thought would be a clean and correct transcription tool, and since it doesn't do what I need it to, I had to send it back for a refund with no hard feelings.. I am using services mentioned before. gotranscript.com works well for my projects.

You should do this work manually, if you have no time, you can hire any freelancer. There are many freelancer available today online. You can use any site. But you have to take a test before hiring anyone. You can give him/ her a short file to make text. Then if you found him suited to do your work, then you can hire him. You should not use any software, if you want to get the best work.
