Broadband Help

Hello Warriors,

Started my travels all is going well so far other than the lack of Wifi available is a real pain in the ass!

I am in New Zealand for 6 weeks and am looking at getting a 3g card for my laptop any ideas suggestions.... Also I am in australia for 6 months touring and could do with similiar thing...

Any ideas suggestions would be good

    I am working with Verizon as Tech support and we also have Bigpond in our department.. maybe contacting bigpond support would help you.

      Blimy still not that cheap!!

      Some american was telling me he pays $30 a month and is pretty fast connection but that is in america.

      I will keep my eyes open

        Telstra is bad. It has to have the most expensive internet in the world.

        I only have adsl2+ through TPG and get 30G more per month for the same price!!!!!

    Danny,

    Since you are travelling around, get the Huawei USB dongled designed mobile wireless device.
    Then check out either the Vodafone or Optus mobile wireless broadband plans. Don't know 'bout NZ but I know in Australia, these are the best price-performance available. (Note I said price/performance, not performance alone). Coverage wise, Telstra's nextG's the best but you'll pay dearly for it so I don't reco it.
    3 also has good coverage BUT if you happen to be outside their primary coverage area, they still keep you connected BUT it's done via Telstra's network, and you end up paying even more dearly for it.

    The USB-dongled device are not locked and takes a SIM card, which you'll get from the internet service provider. Last time I checked, $$ should be circa the A$49 mark for 5GB month, thereabouts....

    Thanks for the reply, I went to optus and got the dongle and there prepaid plan (I like to pre pay everything these days)

    The dongle was $149 and came with sim card... and 2gb! I thought I would be using a lot more of the useage than I am but I am nearly a month in and I am still on th free 2gb dont get me wrong I have watched what I do and I spent 3hrs in Mc donalds uploading a drupal install however the speed that optus connects at is quicker than my connection at home and only drops out occassionally.

    The top up is $40 for 3gb I think which is plenty for what I do and seeing as almost all mc donalds have free wifi if I need more I will just sit in there again.

    Overall I am really impressed with optus so far!
