Should I use a PR firm?

Hey all, I'm looking to build a fairly large pre-launch mailing list for my dating site.

You guys are more knowledgeable about this then me. What is your option of creating a buzz for your website using PR firms like PRweb and Prnewswire.

I want to do this for a press release of the launch of my site.

And if you recommend this, then What PR Firms do you recommend?
And what tips do you have regarding: Questions you should ask before hiring a PR firm for a press release and just general tips.
Thanks for any help.

P.s. I bet this the most used emoticon lol: confused:

I'd say, no don't use a PR firm & don't even launch yet. Do some homework first. Just by the way that you are describing it sounds like anyone you use may take advantage of you.

Action is good, but if you have a budget you can blow through it, no matter how large & not yield desired results or any for that matter.

Now having said that, if you want to supply some more details, we may be able to point you in the right directions.

For example, you mention mailings, are you talking about direct mail or email?
How big is your budget (ball park not exact)?
What type of results are you looking to accomplish?
What would mean success to you?

    Hope this helps

I love pr web if you want search traffic it's great but if you want to build a niche related list then you need to go to other product owners in your niche and work out a solo ad buys.

This I have found to be the most effective way of building a pre launch list.
You can also make some killer videos that only give out 1/2 of the info like a soap-opera then send them to a squeeze page giving away something using curiosity.
    To your success

What's a good ball park cost for sole ads related to how many visitors. How do you find sites to advertise for? I am looking for small to midsize sites? Are there sites were publishers post to sell ads? if so what are some you recommend and like.

I used PR Web and was delighted by the results. Planning to come back to it again. But what is your press release gonna be about? I wrote an ebook, put it as an opt in bait and ordered a press release about it, then paid for distribution. It worked awesome for me but I cannot guarantee it'll bring the same profits to everyone.

It really depends on who you are buying it from, they all say that they have buyers on their list which ideally is what you want on your list.

To find sites and attempt to do a private solo buy can be a gamble but you can try not using a service and google search for sites in your niche that are ranking on the first page or wherever and contact the site owner and see if they have a list and would be interested in selling you one.

Here is a hade full of some that you can get use or use to get ideas of prices.

I've never had much luck using those type of sites... you're much better off targeting specific news people who would be interested in your stuff... create your own list and contact them...blasting out press releases into the universe is seldom useful.

I want to blast out the press releases to my target market. Erelease has a list that targets specific niches. I don't want to blast it too the universe were it reaches news people who are not in my niche.
Plus how can I find news people with in my market? What is something that you do?
