Newbie Needs a Little Advice

by IMwriter 9 replies
Hello all,
I love reading the posts here and I am learning a lot. I'm afraid I suffer from info overload at times. My question is what is the best way to get started in IM with little to no $ investment? Article marketing? Blogging? Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

    Hi,

There's a 1,001 - probably more - ways to get started. I've read many of them and some are good, some are not.

My personal favorite is this one: http://www.oneweekmarketing.com/

That is not an affiliate link - just the link to the sales page. I have no affiliation of any kind with the product or the owner of the product. I simply think it's one of the best there is for someone new to the world of IM.

Jennifer, who perfected this method, is very, very good. You can get started at no cost besides some time and work. It isn't particularly hard work either, nor does it take a lot of time. She lays it all out in true step-by-step fashion that absolutely anyone can follow.

Just my opinion and I really hope it helps...

    Kind regards,

    John.

That is a decent product, but I wouldn't recommend it to a newbie. It is an action plan, and while there are some references there as to how to do some things, there are a lot of pieces missing.

It is a hard core action plan, and if you've never done any of this before it can be overwhelming.

You can find all kinds of action plans on this forum by using the search feature.

    Hi IMwriter

I have just written piece about this and was wondering where to put it and up you pop. Hope it helps.

    A good way to get into internet marketing is to write about what you know. But try and make sure if you want to make money at it,that;

    A. It's a subject people will be interested in. For example if you are into the ancient art of Yak milking writing an ebook about that probably won't make you a millionaire.

    B. You don't write too broadly about the subject. Even though doing this might get people in initially, selling anything to them afterwards may be difficult. Try and keep your creations laser targeted and also (if possible) something that will lead to sales of relevant products later on.

A really good example of this would be say a book on baby names. Set up a site, (google "Free webhosting" there are loads of place offering free hosting) based around kids for example make sure there is plenty of good content about having children and bringing them up. Perhaps some product reviews and maybe even a forum for parents to ask each other relevant quesitons. Again there are plenty of free forums. To get people on your mailing list give away a free ebook of babies names. When they sign for their free ebook you then have an email address of someone who is probably expecting a baby. Think now of all the back end sales you could make to that person over the years. You are going to know probably within 3-6 months that childs age and can pitch relevant products on autoresponder to the parents for the next 18 years!!!

This is laser targeted. You are sending them information and news about something that is so relevant to them and their current personal situation they are going to think you are the cats whiskers!!!

This won't cost you a lot of money, there are even free autoresponder freeautobot.com sites to get you started with sending your customers their emails from you.

There are so many different niches that you can write for the list is never ending. A great way to look at what's hot is visit soovle.com/top/ where everyday they will update the most popular searches on Google, Yahoo, Ask, YouTube and Amazon. This will give you an idea of some of latest trends.

Doing something like this will get you started and I would suggest keep on visiting sites like this and read everything you can from as many different sources as you can. A couple of good guys here in the UK are Robert Evans and Lee McIntyre they give great advice.

Hope this has been of use.

    Good luck

    Hello IMwriter,

Through your username it looks you know how to write articles or you have interest in writing...

So, why don't you at first start writing some articles and then you can sell them.

Take a look at associated content, they pay around $3 to $7 per article (normally).

If you are good writing, you can do copywriting stuff. As far as I know copywriters charges $xxx easily to write a sales page...

Let me know if you have any questions

    Regards

For a newbie in the writing arena, how does one market their writing services especially when competing with other writers with much more experience?

I'd say, don't compete. Position yourself as uniquely as possible, be professional at all times and deliver a high quality service.

Go for quality instead of quantity. There are plenty of people who will pay $30 and more per article. It isn't easy getting there, but it is possible. Do it in steps. Try to start off as close to $10 an article as possible and increase steadily from there. Build a good reputation and the rewards will follow.

There are people who won't pay above $5 an article or even less, and there are people who are seeking reliable, high quality article writers and are willing to pay them what they are worth. SEO companies can be among the latter; your average webmaster is usually not.

Expect it to take a little time to get well established, but probably less time than you think. Rome wasn't built in a day :-)

        Kind regards,

        John.

Start doing small jobs and then save up some money and then focus on big websites.. I'd suggest you to start with domain flipping. Not only does it requires less investment, but also can you rake in lots of money!

Domaining is not for everyone but if you decide to then be prepared to spend alot of money because those $8 domain names will add up to thousands even if you don't have that much. It can be very addictive and you as the big spender. Join forums and read first. Ask questions but don't jump in without knowing what you're doing first. Domain flipping is not that easy as they say. Affiliate marketing is much easier or CPA marketing.

This is true. I am stuck on how to offer my services: 1) write a bunch of niche articles and offer them as a bundle, 2) offer my article writing services at say $5 per article (500 words), or 3) ? I have done writing for revenue sharing sites and other content sites over the past year and am really wanting to expand. I also have several blogs and have looked at flipping websites/blogs (some).

Thanks everyone for all of your advice. I guess the best thing to do is just jump in and start. :0)
