Please refrain from using avatars of bikini-clad girls as if this were a warez forum. It hurts your credibility. It also makes it awkward when my boys see me on the forum "studying for work."

There's no way to block a user nor is there a way to turn off a specific user's avatar. While I'm sure it would be possible to implement either of these, it would make much more sense to just show a little common courtesy.

(P.S. I've given infractions with the same text, but since I've seen two recently, I thought it would be worth repeating.)

Quite agree, Kelly - and I'm no prude!

    From the Rules

    Avatar Rules:

This forum does not allow Avatars that border on porn. Keep them clean or you will be put into a usergroup that can't post avatars.

    Thank you,

Look, I love looking at semi (or completely) naked ladies as much as the next guy, but this isn't the place.

This is a place of business. We are (supposedly) professionals. Acting like horny teenagers doesn't do anything for you or your business, and it hurts others in several ways.

If it doesn't help you, and hurts others, why would you do it?

Have a little respect for your fellow Warriors.

On another note, if someone has an offensive avatar, don't waste your time giving them an infraction they'll ignore. Report them to a mod who will nuke their account by using the red triangle with an exclamation point (right next to the infraction button).

I just gave one to nichepros for his nasty comment and stupid avatar and I suggest you guys do the same if you're offended by his crap.

No one has to take it, so don't. Report those suckers.

Lovely sentiment, except for two things:

        1) it's against the forum rules, which instantly renders the discussion moot

        2) it's offensive to some people, or if not offensive, just not good (like the poster above who feels like he has to hide the site from his kids, or that it's NSFW... not that I think people should browse forums during their worktime but hey, maybe a lunch break or something)

It's not something that bothers me personally, apart form the fact that it's inconsiderate to others. And honestly, if people don't want to put up with that stuff, we shouldn't rub it in their faces.

If you were to look at posts from folks who use those type of avatars you'll notice their posts are usually less valuable. Just look at nichepros. A ton of one-liners to build his post count. So I do see a correlation in the two (avatar and post quality). But like I wrote above, it doesn't matter what we think. Allen Says has made it clear he doesn't want those types of avatars on the Warrior forum and this is his house. Stressed over it? Nah, but as a member-moderated forum I think it does matter.

What the hell is going on here?

When did we leave our ethics at the door and say if people don't like looking at smut it's their problem?

This is obviously hard for some of you to understand, so I'll put it in caps:

    IT'S IN THE FREAKING RULES!

Allen's forum, Allen's rules. A rule that I agree with, as it happens.

I am absolutely gobsmacked by the attitude some of you people have.

And this forum USED to be full of mostly professionals... but in the last year we seem to have an influx of clueless morons who think they are above the rules.

And moosedrool - you're one of 'em.

    Wow.

I thought I handled this politely. I sent an infraction (really nothing more than an attention-getting PM) and then made a non-identifying public post so that no one would knew who I was talking about unless they'd also seen the avatar.

Who knew what a stir it would cause?

I care - and so do a few others. It's rude.

How juvenile do you have to be to find a picture of a barely clad woman and think you've found something unique and different?

    For those seeking a solution..

You can hide/ignore any members' avatar and post that you wish. Here's how..

Simply go up to the menu bar on just about any page in the forum and click on: User CP > Settings & Options > Edit Ignore List. Then, type that members username into the text field and click 'Okay'.

So if some punk pulls up next to me with his idea of music blasting from his car at 120 decibals, it's MY problem if I don't like it. I should roll up my windows, stuff gum in my ears, put on noise-attenuating headsets, etc. and allow him his freedom of expression.

Sorry, I have a different method for handling such things. I can't divulge it here as the statute of limitations hasn't run out yet but a look at MY avatar may give you a hint

Was that a question or a statement? Not the best analogy, but it's only a problem if you decide it is. You can dislike what someone does all you want. The question is: how much time & energy do you waste focusing on it?

If other people in this thread want to bicker about something that has NOTHING to do about learning how to be better marketers and having fun, I can choose to join the bitch session, or not.

For me, it all depends on what there is to learn from the lesson- good or bad, or teach someone to help them improve.

As far as avatars go, I can see the OP's concerns with his kids seeing images that don't fit with the main subject of this forum, unless the member's nitche is related to the avatar.

Doesn't bother me one way or another. I don't have kids. But if I did I'd rather hide the avatar, and let that member convey whatever they wanted to convey. That's their right, provided it doesn't break forum rules.

I don't see what the problem is, really. Sounds like too many folks here, including you, are allowing others to get themselves upset over nothing. That's their choice and opinion, and they are entitled to it.
I should roll up my windows, stuff gum in my ears, put on noise-attenuating headsets, etc. and allow him his freedom of expression.
Are you saying that you let an avatar be the equivalent of your analogy? You might consider a little self control or something. Especially being that you're in a marketing forum where people are looking to give some great opportunities to those with equally good products and services.

What kind of product or service is your attitude communicating?

        A. Someone who gets upset over a forum avatar?
        B. Someone who can handle many situations fairly, and deal with them in a calm, effective, resourceful way while considering as many options as possible?

        Just something to think about.
Sorry, I have a different method for handling such things. I can't divulge it here as the statute of limitations hasn't run out yet but a look at MY avatar may give you a hint
From the photo of you on your website- compared to the description above your avatar, I see two different people. I'd like to think you're better than your description.

I would have chosen something more courteous to respond with. Like..

        Thanks.

Depends on how much time and energy I have available at the moment.

Perhaps it was not the best analogy but it's what popped into mind as another example of egregious discourtesy in the name of licentious self-expression.

Are you saying that you let an avatar be the equivalent of your analogy?
Nope. I, personally, care nothing at all about avatars. I do care about courtesy and conformity with the rules established for this community.

The whole point of my response to your post and the analogy I used was to express a difference of opinion.

You suggest that the aggrieved party should expend HIS time and effort to solve HIS problem, completely ignoring the fact that the problem was caused by an undisciplined, irresponsible adolescent punk who doesn't believe that the rules of this community apply to him.

In other words, you recommend accomodation and appeasement. I respectfully disagree. I believe that ignoring bad behavior never works and, in fact, always exacerbates the problem.

No Paul I simply shared a forum tool that other folks here might have not known was available, so they could simply ignore the ramblings of the undisciplined, irresponsible adolescent punks who don't believe that the rules of this community apply to them.

It's a personal preference tool that's also useful for decreasing the odds of getting distracted in time-wasting discussions that don't add value to our purpose, or people that can be just as time wasting.

Hope that made sense. Typed it with one eye open, now off to get some shut-eye.

Let people choose whatever avatar they wish!

And, while we're at it, let's allow affiliate links anywhere and everywhere.

Want to sell something? Post in the main forum, no need to list a WSO.

You want huge, green letters in your 15 line signature? Go ahead!

It doesn't matter if you like them or not - they are against the rules. You are a guest here.

Finally, I figured out the real reason WHY people use such avatars...

It's because they can't get a decent picture of themselves, due to the poor lighting in their parent's basement.

Yep, the business world can be a bit restricting - but it's BUSINESS.

If you are into porn you have a PRIVATE life for that. We are marketers and don't fall for the guff many consumers do. If you can sell a car by parking a chick in a bikini on it - do it. My bet is it wouldn't work in here so I don't understand why it is such a big issue for you.

To think just because you get turned on by sexy pics that everyone does and to go further to argue and push the issue when people are requesting that you don't and even expressing disgust is really getting to be weird. My idea of you just went from "bad taste" to "pervert".
