Are you allowed to use a sports team logo in your website?

For example, I am doing a preview of all the NFL teams this year. Can I put the Dallas Cowboys logo on my preview for them or is that now allowed because it is a trademark?

It is trademarked, people get away with it, but it's not worth it if you are caught.

I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one in the comic strips, but I'm pretty sure they make a lot of money licensing their brand. I would stay away from it, especially if you plan on making a profit from your site.

Yup, and they're even more annoying about actively suing people.

Yes, college teams have many trademarks as well as the pros.

I know from experience having received a number of 'alleged trademark infringements' letters and emails for a few of my products. Thankfully, I removed them quickly and there was no further recourse for my actions.

For info on collegiate logo use visit: The Collegiate Licensing Company - - Home, which handles the admin for most U.S. based universities.

You would have to talk to a lawyer.

I've been asked to take down a teams logo on Twitter before and like David said sports teams and leagues make a lot of moneylicensing things like logos. In England even the football league fixtures can only be used under licence.

Pictures are okay correct? Like if I Google a picture of Kobe Bryant and use it on my site, that is acceptable right?

Sucks that I can't use the team logos. I'm just simply using their logo next to their team name in my football previews.

      No.

Pictures are only okay if you took them or have acquired the copyright or the agreement of the copyright holder. Otherwise you are liable to get sued. Some companies make a lot of money suing people who do this...

So for a sports website I can only write? lol seems like the site won't have any design at all. Youtube videos are allowed to be uploaded on sites. What are pictures not allowed?

Even if you take the picture yourself, you may not be legally allowed to use it. When people are in a picture, you have to get a signed model release before you can use it for commercial proposes. Newsworthy photos can be used for editorial purposes only, without a model release, but that can get tricky too.

I'm not a lawyer and this is not legal advice, but I've been a professional stock photographer since 2006.
