In terms of SEO, I would define it as an established site trusted by Google. You can usually know if it's an authority site based on how easily it ranks in the SERPs.

I did, I only saw sites like, "buying Authority sites WSO" .. "PR8 Authority site with targeted traffic" etc etc etc.... I saw nothing that explained what it was and how you get it to be an "AUTHORITY"

That's the only reason I asked! Thanks

Authority sites are basically "Hubs" that branch out into many different pages or articles that are all based on different sub-groups, but pertain to the same overall topic. For example, an authority site on weightlifting will have the general topic of health and fitness, but it will then offer links to other pages featuring specific subjects like weight loss, muscle gain, etc.

    Hope this helps!

When you search "Search Entire Posts" (default), you get useless results, better to use "Search Titles Only".

I would say an "authority Site" is a website that is ranked high in Google search Engine Ranking based upon several criteria like quality of content, usability and the amount of traffic to the website. If you search in google for a a keyword you will see these authority websites on the first page.

    LOL @ all th3 answ3rs abov.

An authority site is a site that has authority. What this means, at least to me, is that these websites are the "go-to source" for people in that niche, and that a lot of people look upon them as authoritative. Say you want to learn Internet marketing; a authority site would be WarriorForum.com because everyone knows there's a lot of good information here (even if there's more trash than quality content).

^^This. The MMO crowd has twisted the term into some sort of Google-blessed SEO entity but that definition is far from accurate. Authority sites are most often older sites with millions of words of content that attract a lot of visitors. Obviously, sites like these will rank well with all the SEs but almost none of them were built with that in mind.

Authority sites are those that are written by people who specialize in that particular topic and in many cases have degrees to prove it. So if you wanted information on mental illness, you might go to the Mental Health Institute's site, which is written by psychiatrists and researchers in the field of mental health.

The same goes for all other areas of expertise. These are people in the know, people with their hands on the research and inside knowledge. To be a true authority site, you'll need to meet that level of expertise. However, if you strictly report on what those experts have to offer, you can establish yourself as an authority source. As someone already said, it's not just a matter of putting a slew of links on your site with brief comments. The site needs to be more substantial but based on proven facts and data.

Authority is an accepted source of expert information or advice.

An authority website gives you trustful information because it is based on authorities in their field. It is not a simple website with a few links that merely has the intention to sell you something.

An Authority site can also come into being when it becomes popular, with thousands of links to it being created by people constantly visiting it, telling other people about it, so that becomes a "must go site" for people on a regular basis.

As I remember, someone wrote that PerezHilton.com is an authority site because its ranking is based on content and trafic. This is a rather arbitrary meaning of "authority" but perhaps relevant to internet marketing.

Not sure how easy it is to make a site rank based on expert content, but i get some nice juicy links from a science site, that helps balance all the shitty spamlinks that I also have.
