how well do banner ads convert?

Hi,

i'm quite new, so i have a lot of questions I planned to set up various banner ad campaigns on relevant sites, but i would like to get more info about it before. I saw a few articles telling that the conversion rates nowadays are extremely low.

Do you have personal experience? How important is the banner size and what would you recommend?

Hey, many thanks in advance!

Banner ads are just one piece of the puzzle to making money online if that's what you want.
You need to be testing and seeing which banners work and do more of the same.

it will depend on the banner...if you are doing you own blog, I suggest you get max banner ads - which is a free plugin, now, you can make larger banner ads with black border, and red letters. Red and blue also works well. - have a call to action.

The combination of those tend to convert at 17-25% - which is HUGE for banner ;-)

Hey ivana. Question please.. when you say 17-25% conversion rates, do you mean CTR rate? If so that seems to be really high, and for some banner advertisers might seem a little too high even and then the ECPM rate could be penalized, no?

Just as important as the banners your using is where your using them. There's a lot of sites that offer dirt cheap rates on banner iimpressions, but there aren't many targeting options...

Sometimes the best way to use banners is outside of networks. Instead, contact owners of popular blogs in your niche and try to make a personal agreement. That personal agreement can be based on clicks, impressions, or even split commissions...

The question your asking is a bit 1 dimensional, but banner advertising is FAR from one dimensional..

From my experience, they don't convert well at all. If you want to really try banners, use TEXT banners.

They don't convert well? Maybe there is a problem with the marketing message from ad to landing page.

People say all the time on this forum Fb ads doesn't work, PPV doesn't work, Banner ads don't work -- yet many people are making different advertising types and sources work very well for them.

I think people get caught up with the Guru messages out there that basically say that if you send targeted traffic you get sales. There is a lot more to it.

The truth is that many people that have mastered specific advertising sources have had a lot of failures along the way. The real advertising Gurus will tell you that they've had a lot of unsuccessful ads, and entire campaigns before they broke through to success -- which enabled them to scale upwards.

Most aspiring internet marketers give up too soon and should take some responsibility for what results they get instead of always passing the blame to advertising types and sources. Granted, there are some sources that can be less effective but many of the types of traffic discussed on the forum are being used effectively by many marketers.

In some cases people don't have a large enough budget to give some ad sources the testing that is needed.

How long is a piece of string?

Honestly, banner ads are like anything else. Some will convert very well, some will convert poorly. There are far too many factors that have a role in how effective banner ads are.

They convert at different rates for different niches, banner sizes, demographics, images, placements, etc. There is no real answer other than the one you get testing your own banner.

I would find the blogs that allow cross promotions - so if you advertise, they'll also create a review.

This can really help your ad stand out from the rest!

Again, it depends on what niche are you involved in.

In my personal experience, it can go from 0.02% - 1%+. If you are advertising adult, you can expect to get average of 0.33% that being said it requires throughout research and niche familiarity.
