What clicked for you to start the avalanche?

I am curious to learn what was it for you, that final snowflake that caused your avalanche or at least started the rumbling? I know a lot of marketers are struggling but there seems to come a point when all the knowledge you have gained crystallizes into steady cash flow. What was it for you that was your ultimate revelation that made everything finally click together?

It finally hit me and I thought "hey, I'm making sales.. Why don't I just scale up what I'm doing?"

Prior to that, I would start on something.. Spend a few weeks, or months (maybe) on it.. Make a few sales.. And quit to move onto something I could make more sales with.

That and I kind of found something I actually enjoy.

Right, so you stuck with one objective long enough. Cool. Now when you started making sales, what happened right before you started? Did you try a certain method that finally clicked? Or did you just get enough traffic and so it was a matter of numbers?

I started online about in 2009. My online career trajectory looks like this:

      1. Paid to have website built selling 'sports information serves.' Did really well, but it was stressful. I was in college at the time and ended up selling it. It's still alive today.
      2. I then became an affiliate to a couple gambling sites. I realized kind of quickly I didn't want to be a gambling affiliate. I wasn't building lists, I was hoping people would click my banner/text links and sign up for gambling sites. Income would fluctuate and I quit. At this point I really has no clue about affiliate marketing. I was just in a hurry to get people to click my ads.
      3. I then moved on to be a clickbank affiliate. I wanted to create a niche review site. But, I was lazy and didn't actually use any of the products. I didn't build a list either. I just rewrote other reviews . I wouldn't recommend this. I had a few sales but I realized I didn't want to continue with clickbank. IMO, a lot of the products sounded like they sucked (but I didn't use them so who knows). And I felt like a thief and a used car salesman.
      4. I finally asked myself, what am I passionate about? I came up with three things sports (new I didn't want to get back into gambling), business/entrepreneurship (new I wanted to work for myself), and helping people (believe it or not).
      5. This lead me to finally ask myself, how can I actually help people? That's when I came across dropshipping about a year ago (on this forum). I read about it here for a few weeks and I finally decided that I was going to quit building websites (and looking for a quick fix) and build an actual business. I put a business plan together before I even had a website (business plan has been modified since then). I knew that I wanted to start with one successful site and if I could do that, I could create 10 successful sites. I decided the easiest way to start would be to purchase a site that is generating revenue. Then I could always improve it. During this time, I monitored Flippa (probably 100 times a day) and finally found a sports store that was for sale. It was creating revenue. The design wasn't anything special. That was my first actual business. It's since been sold and I've expanded into what I think are better businesses.

I suppose in short, that the tipping point was knowing that I wanted to work for myself, with sports, and actually help people (finding tangible items they want). Once, I knew what I wanted to do and saw it generating revenue, I focused all of my attention on growing it. Haven't looked back since.

AH HA! Brilliant answer. So you shifted from wanting to make money to starting a real business in a real niche. That is the key. Internet marketing has this sexy appeal and I had found it totally mind boggling until like yourself started building a real value producing operation in a specific niche, not jumping from the next program and so on. So I always thought the advice to Take Action is somewhat limited.

Because you can take action in the wrong direction so there is more to this puzzle than simply taking action. You must be able to take action and learn, and adapt.

I havn't been on the Warrior Forum for a while so I am just getting back in. I was renovating abandoned properties which worked out very well. I have been online for about a year now and am scaling up my operation like you mentioned. When I approach the Internet like a real business that takes work, the motivation shifts from just trying to make money to building a real value producing business.

        thanks for the great advice.

The real moment of truth comes when you find out that Google isn't the answer. Once you stop focusing on Google, and start focusing on your customers... That's when the game changes.

To many people get caught up in Page Rank or SERP's, and they come here asking question after question of why they aren't making any money. It's simple. Stop trying to make Google happy, and start going to your potential customers. Give those people what they want, and your business will thrive.

When I picked a tightly focused niche, asked what they really wanted,
and started offering that to them, everything started to fall in place.
Then it was just a LOT of focused effort, letting my targeted audience k
now that I had what they wanted.

Back when I first started in 1996, my primary means of getting the
word out was SEO. Putting up optimized webpages, and then submitting
them to the search engines and directories. It was somewhat different
back then though... you could submit a page via a form, and have it
crawled, and showing up in the search engines in a few hours... make a
few changes, and watch your position change.
