Do any warriors use Joomla?

I've been on a few threads that got me very curious if Any warriors are using Joomla.

I would be interested to know if you do or not and also the reasons.

Thanks!

I used Joomla in an old day job back in 2008-2010 all of the time.

Back then it had a lot more capability that Wordpress, and to this day, I still find it easier to create the templates for Joomla.

However these days Wordpress has caught up and have such a big market share that I rarely use Joomla anymore. I'd only really favor Joomla for multi-level user websites or communities.

Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS). It is by far the best CMS available and way better than WordPress. We have been using Joomla for quite a long time. We have also used WordPress. Wordpress is best for publishing your content (blogging) while Joomla is more than just displaying content. It is more flexible and extendable with tons of advanced features.

I sell sites that I build and I've made some awesome Joomla sites and then was sorry that I did. The learning curve for Joomla is steep. It took me a good while to learn to create nice looking sites with it. Then when I sold them, the buyers didn't have a clue how to operate them and so support was very time consuming. I don't want to sell a site that buyers can't operate and have to teach them what to do with it.

Thank you all for the insights. Some of what's been said could've come out of my own mouth. @4day: I think you're right that Joomla's the ticket for multi-level memberships and community sites. That definitely sets it apart. The market share / popularity of wordpress is a well earned strength. I love wordpress too 'code as poetry' I remember the founder at least used to say on the site. @pintara3: Yes wordpress is very simple to use. Thanks for that input, it's a key point. @dot7: Your take on it is pretty much identical to mine. It's exactly what I tell my consulting clients. There's a time for wordpress, and a time for joomla. And a time for other solutions too. For it's flexibility and extendable and advanced features it's worth the learning curve to run certain types of projects in J. @sbucciarel: This is very revealing, and reinforces the comment from dot7. The learning curve seems to be a bit much for some, especially if we set up clients with a bunch of sweet extensions and plugins. Wordpress is so straight forward with 'new post' and it goes straight to the site when published whereas Joomla has content > article manager > create new and then once it's written user has to go menu > main menu > add new menu item so even publishing one page is more work than in wordpress. And I know there's other systems out there too... Thanks for the comments everyone, I'll likely end up weaving this wisdom into a blog post on my personal wordpress blog, or an article on my joomla site? :-)

Anyone else's experience and opinion I'd love to hear as well, learning a lot here.

I have used Joomla in the past, but stopped when it became apparent that many of the coolest modules available for it tended to be pricey, and there were a lot of things that I simply didn't like in the interface. I switched to Drupal, even though the learning curve is probably even steeper than Joomla's, because I found it had a lot more flexibility for my purposes. For high-end sites when I want a lot of interaction, It's my favorite CMS - for less intense sites, WordPress rules.

I used to be a dedicated Joomla fan, but the latest version is so clunky and hard to use, I've abandoned it in favour of WordPress. Why the good people at Joomla feel the need to change things radically every so often and practically re-invent the wheel is beyond me! At least with WordPress the changes are more subtle, and the learning curve easier. With all the plug-ins and templates available (many of them free) WordPress had gone beyond being a simple blogging platform and is fast becoming the de-facto standard for web pages IMHO.

I don't currently use it on any of my sites. I have used it in the past before I switched to Wordpress to try it out and see how it compared to other CMS's. I found it quite hard to use at first, and found it hard to build the exact website I wanted. I switched to Wordpress and never looked back

I used Joomla once before, and I still have the site that running Joomla.

I guess you can do anything you want on other sites as well but since I launched the site ( and it has huge amount of data ), the site will continue to go on with Joomla.

I doubt that I will use joomla for any future website.
