    Hi Steve,

I know I prefer video with a pdf of the content so I can refer back quickly if needed. If you're giving a course or coaching I think video is the best simply because people can look over your shoulder and see exactly how things are done - so the learning curve / time is lessenned.

However I think a pdf that is connected to it is essential so that I (your customers) can quickly review specific areas without having to wade through (sometime hours) of video. Also, there are many people that still prefer to read (surprising in this day and age, I know. But I've had a lot of feedback on that).

    I hope that helps :-)

      Hey Steve,

I voted for the Powerpoint presentation in a video because it caters to all three senses addressed by the popular presentation methods. Whether you prefer to read, listen or watch - you still get to take in the information "your" way.

I'm a big fan of these and in fact if anyone's desperate to see one in action, there's one in my sig. Am I allowed to say that mods? It's only a free vid

Thanks all, keep the votes and suggestions coming! What I could do, is voice over the Powerpoint and have it downloadable as a PDF, so you can take notes as you go... *ponders

There are times when I prefer the written word over video. A lot of it has to do with the type of content that's being given.

What I can't stand is a bunch of PowerPoint slides and a moderator reading every one word for word, one after the next. I see this kind of thing all the time, and I get so sick of it I want to Ralph!

Haha - I coach for the Australia's biggest organisation of personal trainers, im pretty well known for NOT reading off the slides or out the textbooks - I also build rapport quickly with my students, meaning they tell me how bad other coaches are, particularly those just make them read from the textbook

I do screencasts and when I can, give a pdf along with it. When I don't offer the pdf, someone always asks for it :-p

I voted other. Here are the details, as requested:

I really like the approach at Udemy. Here are some of the reason I find them effective:
    • Multimedia: The courses are a combination of video demonstration, written materials (eg pdfs) links and example working files, as appropriate for each subject.
    • Working Files: These are provided to enable students to follow along with their own 'live' version of what's being demonstrated - great for things like software (Excel/Photoshop...) courses.
    • Portability: I also really like their app for iPad (much smoother than Coursera at the time of writing) - this makes the mental barrier of taking the course easier to overcome as you know there will be parts of the course that you can do from the sofa! Also, they often allow you to download the course, which is great for making the most of your time when you don't have a connection.
The Udemy platform as a whole is very popular. This page gives a good indication of their most popular courses:

    I hope this helps!

I voted for "Video as if in classroom/seminar"

A great example of this is the Khan Academy. It's free. Check it out... you'll boost your math skills while you're there... and just might improve your financial life too.

    Without question, Video

Of course, as all the other Warriors have mentioned, you want to also offer PDF downloads for those who don't have time to watch the videos, or would like to take notes along the way.

However... just standard videos are a bit overused these days.

I would recommend taking it a step further with full interactive videos.

Something (SUPER COOL) for making these types of videos is a software called Articulate.

It's designed exclusively for eLearning, and is the Creme de la Creme

I don't know what the most popular format is. I do know I wouldn't buy anything that didn't have a text option. And there are a lot out there that feel the same.

I do a lot of coaching/training and I'd say video.

As a customer of such things I like to be able to look the person in the eye and know if they know their stuff. Powerpoint slides with voiceover is ok, but you can get other people to do that for you. I want to know the person is not blagging and knows their stuff.

On the other side - I like people to be able to look me in the eye and see that I know my stuff.

All those who play the 'fake it til you make it' game - be warned

Live online course with screensharing and voice seems to be the most effective for me. Powerpoint can be effective if you actually go and explain more than what is on the slide.

Although I haven't sold this type of product, I have purchased as few. As I'm sure most of us have

My vote is based on my personal preference with regard to content delivery.

    Good luck with your project.

  • You can write an ebook, you can have a video series that is secured by a membership site. Optimizepress, digital access pass, wishlist are all great choices for securing your content.

I think both of these are great options
