Hi guys

is writing a series simply filling in the section called 'is this book part of a series'

and is it important that the series title appears on the actual book cover?

I also read somewhere that its important that this series title includes keywords, that are relevant to your book niche - how important is this for say childrens fiction

similarly, for book description, how important are these keywords? and are these keywords found just by 'guess-typing' keyworrds into the amazon search bar?

thanks again

A series should be a group of books that are connected in some way.

The title of each book should appear on the cover.

Keywords in a title can help people find your book especially with non fiction. I do incorporate them in my non fiction books as that is what the book is about. They can also be used in fiction if done with care.

I mainly use a combination of Amazon search and the Google Keyword Tool to help with niche selection. I recently started playing with an automated software that pulls all the info and it makes it even easier.

In fiction it can be hard to convey from the title what the book is about. But you can use keywords to help if you do it carefully. For example if you wrote Mystery books you could say......Descriptive Phrase (A Character Name Mystery). So here you combine your title phrase with a Keyword that not only brands your books but also uses your keyword niche.

use 'mystery in the title phrase if you are writing mystery books' 'erotic' in the title if etc. ok

so theres no real 'research ' as such , just common sense obvious usage of your keyword genre repeated as many times as possible in title, book description. etc

          got it, thanks.

Yes, a series is defined by filling in that 'is this book part of a series' field when uploading your book...

But you should also link your books INSIDE the book itself. At the end of book 1, put a link to book two and write a little blurb to convince people to check it out. You should do that for all the books in the series.

Do series titles have to appear on the cover? Absolutely not... SHOULD they? Absolutely yes. I mean, anything you can do to make people want to read your book is a plus. Letting them know it's a book in a series is important just so they don't buy book 3 before book 1 and 2...if nothing else.

Keywords...I use freshkey software (google it) to do keyword research at amazon. It's like 20 bucks. I also use the free Google keyword tool but Google is phasing that out apparently.
