What is the best way to build a good responsive list as an affiliate? I have a list of over 5000 now and they are not really responsive. I don't want to start sending them free stuff as I think every time they open my email they won't buy anything because they are used to free stuff. What's the best way for me to processed for building my list?

Here are five posts which may help you ...

What are the essential things to know about list building?

    I would do the following

    1) Create a new list

    2) Send updates to the old list getting people excited about the new list

    3) Continue to send updates while building up the new list

    4) Ditch the old list and use new squeeze pages or reverse opt in pages to build up the new list.

IMPORTANT: with the new list, you have to be EXPLICIT about what you will be sending. If you will be sending ads, say so. Make sure you MANAGE the list members expectations.
This is not a case of BIGGER IS BETTER. Instead, focus on a more targeted approach to recruiting and messaging.

Dido! I would start a new list centered around giving away valuable info and using teaching and "how to" content to lead into the aff product sales.

Affiliate marketing isn't really that hard, you just have to be committed to providing value to your subscribers and actually HELPING them. The aff purchases will come as a byproduct of your recommendations and you teaching and helping them.

I totally agree. Start afresh, but before you do try and find some great advice on list building from someone who is an expert list builder. There are loads on here. You could even try the War Room for advice.

Alexa's five posts are solid info for now, & the future. Writeaway, has a great strategy. I think that focusing on managing the list member's expectations is critical. Good luck with your evolving list.

Do you email your list regularly? You don't want to be harassing your list (obviously) but keeping in regular contact with them means they will be more likely to open your emails and be receptive.

I don't think this is entirely accurate. Humans are reciprocal in nature- we're far more likely to do something after getting something first. The Hare Krishna people knew this very well (they'd give away free flowers and lucky charms, then ask for donations after.)

If they're not responsive to begin with, then you don't really have anything to lose. Give them something that they like, then promise them something better if they pay. Pretty straightforward, I think.

I tend to realize that the more I email my list, the more responsive they become. Of course you will want to make sure that you are sending them good content and resources which is useful to them. I feel having a good mixture of free content and recommended paid resources will ensure that the subscribers stay longer with you.

Once you have a strong sales funnel in place you can then look
at building your list again and not have to worry too much about the
    cold list you currently have.

Adding a continuity site to your sales funnel allows you to be able to get
paid every month no matter what happens with your list(s).

    If you've got $1,000 - $5,000 + coming in from your membership
sites every single month, you don't need to worry too much about anything
    else.

Of course this doesn't happen overnight but it's better to start looking
to add that to your sales funnel sooner rather then later.

You can then focus your time on building your lists(s), adding extra
revenue streams to your business and felling safer in the fact you know
that you have this stable income coming into your business every single month.

Get your funnel in place first then build your list around that.

    All the best
    Gavin

It sounds like you don't have a very targeted list. I agree with @writeaway and start a new list.
