Well, Now I Am A Tad Discouraged For Sure

First, let me say this forum is wonderful. I have been lurking around for awhile trying to absorb everything and take action on it.

I read the thread about the adsense debacle with ezine, and thought "oh, let's see how it goes" Well... the results have not been good, and I don't know if it's that, or me or both.

I have 10 articles live, 2 pending and 3 more I am working on. There is a decent resource box, article length not too long etc etc... and my CTR had been sitting anywhere from 17-20% overall since I started putting out articles...not great but not too shabby either.

Over the last 3 days, it's dropped about 4 % points, for basically no reason, or at least a reason I am not aware of.

Hopefully things will pick up again when those articles go through, and for now I will keep on keeping on... and am even more inspired to do so... but goodness.

You should know that your articles will get a huge spike when you first submit them to directories. That's because they will be sitting on the first page of the article directories for perhaps a day or two before getting pushed down to deep pages. Once that happens, your articles will not get the exposure they did when you first posted them.

That's why you want to keep putting out an article every 2-3 days so that you keep a presence on the first page.

Also, Google grabs new articles on those directories when people search for your keywords. After awhile, there are newer articles to replace yours. So you literally could see your article get indexed in Google very quickly, stay there for a few days, and then disappear from the index. But as you keep Google's attention with new articles, over time your articles will get picked up by other sites and never disappear.

That's when your efforts really start to pay off... but it is a long process to get your articles onto enough sites that people constantly see them and click.

It does seem that they have received quite a few complaints about the adsenses changes. Hopefully, they will listen to their customers and reconsider what they have done.

Don't focus too much on factors beyond control. When you do that you shift the momentum away from yourself to external factors that become obstacles in your mind. Instead focus on what you *can* do. Let's dissect this:

Let's say that you had 10 articles live getting an average of 500 views a day with a 20% CTR. From 10 articles you have 100 click throughs. This then drops to 16% which reduces the average to 80 click throughs.

Solution based on averages to get back to 100. Write another 2 articles OR choose another method of promotion that isn't messing with your mental state.

Don't let something like this hold you back. Also don't over analyze your stats ( stats are good for seeing 'where you are' but don't obsess ).

Also try not to think, "For now I will keep on keeping on" - this is like setting up your mind for quitting if things don't *quite* work out. Lots of people fizzle out in this business just before they were going to really succeed.

Instead say to yourself, "I will never quit". The shift is subtle but makes you mentally resilient to keep going no matter what.

      Great idea, Dean... but

You want to use the positive, not the negative. Saying "quit" can have that exact effect. Instead, say "I am going to win" - "I will persist until I get what I want" - "I WILL succeed!"

Your approach reminds me of the old expression about pink elephants. Tell me not to think about one and I surely will see nothing but pink elephants. Saying you will never quit will have you thinking about quitting.

Thanks guys for the encouragement. I am not going anywhere, I am all ready too addicted to learning, and mastering IM to do that, LOL, it's just interesting to see the spikes and dips in this, especially considering that this dip comes after several new articles were approved.

Anyhoo, we'll see. I wish I were getting that many views a day Dean, but it seems like niche wide that doesn't occur too much. It will be fine, I know it. I just needed someone to kick me in the ass.
