Squidoo Guestbook Keyword Question

I know the guestbooks are nofollow but I have a question:

Do Googlebots still crawl the CONTENT of the guestbook?

Do the keywords and phrases people leave in my guestbook contribute toward the content at all?

I know it works like this on my blog because I noticed my web stats showing me being found for odd phrases, which I pinpointed to the guestbook.

I'm no SEO expert so I'm not fully edu-ma-cated in the technical details ~

  • Just because a link is marked "nofollow" doesn't mean it doesn't get crawled. Who knows what Google really does with the information.

Hi Tiffany, yes the content in the guestbook does count as fresh content and as keywords for your page. Most people have theirs set to show only 5 comments, crank that up to 15 - 20 comments and get that keyword juice!

Yes, but only the first page of blurbs, so increase the number of blurbs you show (as ThomasC suggests).

Other modules that have visible content include Duels, Twitter Search, Twitter Follow and Google Blog Search modules, while the RSS, eBay and TwttrStrm modules are not visible to search engines.

Thanks Fluff! I always show a zillion guestbook comments. So I'm good there.

The reason I even noticed this was in my blog, I had written about people getting offended about no reciprocal following on Twitter. Someone posted in the guestbook something about how the Amish feel it's good manners to burp after a meal (or something like this).

Anyway, it showed up in my web stats - people are now typing in "is it true the amish burp after a meal?" into Google and my blog comes up on page 1. Hmmm...Maybe I'll put an offer on there for something Amish

      Thanks for the feedback!
