My Turn to be Locked Out of Paypal

"Noice!" (As Onslow would say on the British Sitcom "Keeping Up Appearances.")

Actually it's not nice. I have been with Paypal for over 8 years. Never a problem. I play by the rules and am a very good girl doing everything exactly as they tell me to.

I have no idea why this happened. Last time I used my account was about 8 days ago. Everything was tickety boo. I tried to login in this morning to update my credit card information and got the red letter message that "This account has been permanently blocked. No new account may be registered by me!"

Okay. I'm out.

Whatever I did (or did not do) must have been pretty awful to warrant such a swift and brutal kick in the butt like that. I had no money in my account, no money owing, and no account activity for the past 8 days - so whatever evil sin I have committed is a mystery to me.

But ya know what?

I could care less.

I closed my 10 year old eBay account last week because I am totally disgusted with eBay and simply refuse to play anymore.

So go ahead Paypal. Shut me out. If I have to deal with either Paypal or eBay ever again I simply won't do business on the Internet.

Here in Canada we don't have the option to use Google Checkout. So until I find a suitable alternative to Paypal, it will be cash or cheques only for this eBabe!

Strangely enough, I feel as if I am now part of the in-crowd!

Again, Paypal strikes the one's who work with the rules, the ones who abuse the rules seem to get away with it! My thoughts are with you.

Welcome to the "paypal sucks" club. For real fun try asking them why they do it - their replies are pathetic.
If you need a new account a new email address and cc number works.

A warning to others though - this happens a lot! Make sure you dont keep too much cash in your PP account or your account can be closed at any time and your money held for 180 days.

It would be nice if they told Dekko what she'd done wrong though. Very frustrating.

It's an interesting situation to be in. Whenever I read about this happening to others, I always felt quite smug that of course, this would never happen to sweet little innocent me. Miss Goodie Two Shoes herself and all that rot.

So it was a bit of a shock, to say the least.

However, having heard about this happening to others so often, there was always a nagging voice in my little head telling me to wean myself from Paypal. Because of similar EvilBay tactics, I also no longer really trusted either of them completely. But for convenience sake, I kept on using them.

Now they have done the weaning, and I'm not sorry after all is said and done. Last time I used their services was earlier in August when I bought a WSO from Big Mike. Everything worked perfectly. I hope I can still buy WSO's without Paypal. If not, well, so be it!

The really bothersome downside to this is that it will be difficult, if not impossible, now for me to buy WSO's unless direct payment by credit card is accepted, and I'm not even sure that this is an option.

However, for me anyway, the time has come for me to completely turn my back on eBay and Paypal. Having already completed the process at the end of July with eBay, it's certainly reassured me that I did the right thing now that this has happened with Paypal.

I think its strange, to say the least, that none of our major Canadian banks have tried to set up a convenient online payment service as an alternative to Paypal. We can do email money transfers, credit card transactions and all of that, but nothing out there, to date, rivals the ease of use and market dominance that Paypal offers.

I know there are other Internet Options such as 2CheckOut, Clickbank, etc.

What I'm not sure of is what are the options for the Warrior Forum, sites like Blujay and other such venues.

It will be an interesting experience checking out all the options.

I look forward to the experience.

TaDah - Good Bye and Good Riddance Paypal! (AND EvilBay!) It was fun while it lasted, but bottom line is - I no longer need either of you. Thankfully!

Kim: How can I use my credit card with Paypal when I'm blocked from Paypal? I was trying to login to update my credit card, which expires today, when I discovered I was locked out. So my credit card with Paypal is useless now as it has expired.

Quite simply, I will never go back to Paypal even it means cutting myself off from some of my current options. There simply has to be a better way. And I will find it, for sure!

I think you have a gem here, can you explain a little more how this works

Are you saying if I want to buy something and the person is using paypal I can use 2checkout to make a payment in paypal to the seller?

So if my PP acount got deleted and I started using 2Checkout, people could still pay me using PayPal??

Would 2Checkout grab the funds from PP and send to me, how would this work?

Thank you for pointing this out Tim,

2CO (and CB) have Paypal payment options on their checkout pages so they accept the payment into their own Paypal account, and then send you a weekly cheque or bank transfer.

The day I shoot snake eyes....I want to be remembered as the guy who told you'se people way way back on the old forum....

".....that until PAYPAL continues screwing good Warriors......no one is gonna believe how truly corrupt this so-called monopoly can be....etc."

I didn't get much love back then for that statement...but I sure got it right! Cuz the list of names continues to grow.....as I expected.

And since those early posts......I have seen Warriors here---- that are beyond respected......getting jerked with by PayPal to the point where I often wonder how they can continue to make excuses for a company that holds all the cards and can and will break you at anytime.

Because keep in mind...the burden of proof is never on PayPal. It's always on you....to prove your innocence.

They can and will freeze your account for any reason they choose....and they DO. And too many good people have suffered...so don't tell me just cuz it hasn't happened to you...it can't. Cuz I have a rather lengthy list of good Warriors who do play by the rules...and get their commerce stopped for what ever the hell reason PayPal comes up with...if any!

I have never understood how otherwise very intelligent Warriors......can or would...give that kind of power to anyone or any company.

And most people continue....to choose to kiss PayPal's ass...and bend over for them...rather then asking themselves...why an honest seller has to worry about their account being frozen!

PLEASE....IF YOUR FDIC BANK ACCOUNT WAS FROZEN TOMORROW.....WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

You'd raise holy hell....probably make the chick at the bank cry.....and you'd kick some ass.

So please...someone explain to me....why when paypal...does the same thing.....you kiss ass...make nice...and beg forgiveness for shit you never did wrong to begin with. Why? Why? Why? Sheep Sheep Sheep!!!!!!

Oh yeah...PayPal is easy to use....???? I mean none of us ever did business before PayPal ,right??? LOL

A whore on the Sunset Strip....is easy to use too......and I aint handing her my money....although I'd pick her over PayPal anyday.

I finally learned my lesson the second time paypal froze my account.......it was the same day EBAY awarded me POWER SELLER STATUS.....!

Ironic, don't ya think! And almost comical...and it shows how far Ebay and their ******* step child of a company PayPal have fallen.

Oh yeah...I have still never received an answer to this question from you'se PayPal lovers......when they freeze your account......who earns the interest on that money???? Cuz once they refunded mine.....only after 6 months....I don't recall earning any interest? The government might be interested in that little fact....times millions of frozen accounts...cuz I'm guessin' that's a lot of money.

The day the eventual Federal anti-trust lawsuit...hits this evil empire...I will buy every Warrior in Florida a free beer in my restaurant....!

Play with The Pal.....at your own risk. You've been warned...several times by me.

                  Hi Dekko,
You really don't need Paypal! Just get yourself a regular merchant account and they will handle credit card payments and everything. Then the money goes right into your bank account, not into a Paypal account where you have to then transfer the money (if they let you).

Of course they all (visa, mc, discover) charge fees, but it is worth it because in just days the money is in your bank account, and they can't "hold" it like Paypal does.

                  Good luck to you!

I think PaySafeCard is also a great option if a merchant has a lot of european clients.

This is a prepaid option - similar as mobile prepaid cards to fill your prepaid mobile.

You buy a Paysafecard for let say 100 euro and in return for your 100 euro you get a Paysafecard with a 16 digit number that you enter on merchant's website and that's it - total anonimity online and no need to pay with credit card.

                    For more info visit www.paysafecard.com

Also Moneybookers is great option if you have clients all over the world - especially from Asia.

One thing Levada didn't cover is the expense of having a merchant account. To be honest, I don't know what it is today, but it 'used' to require about $10,000 up front to get a merchant account here in Canada. Keep in mind, too, that you as holder of the merchant account become 100% responsible for any problems that arise with your account, such as too many chargebacks. When I researched this possibility in the past, I decided the hassles weren't worth getting my own merchant account. Now, the prices might well have come down considerably since then, but it's still a big responsibility. Personally (and perhaps wrongly according to all these posts) I much prefer having companies like CB and PayPal to take care of all that stuff, and shoulder the responsibility.

A note about Paypal accounts getting shut down for no apparent reason...

Since Paypal uses your email address as a user name (which I always thought was an absolutely assinine method), is it possible scammers try gaining access by guessing at your password? I'm thinking of the bank machines... after 3 tries, if you don't get your password right, your access is denied until you contact the bank directly. This is the bank's way of protecting against illegal access. Perhaps Paypal has a similar protection in place.

Consider Paypal's "email username" issue. It's like giving someone off the street your bank account number and letting them guess the password. I'm not saying that they succeed, since the number combinations are astronomical, but there's always a chance no matter how small. But my main point is that if someone has your Paypal email address, they can try gaining access this way, which might be sending an alert to Paypal.

How people use their Paypal accounts comes with many variables that might have caused these account shutdowns and freezes. We can only guess. Only Paypal has the answer.

I agree with the other Warriors who commented that if you don't settle the issue with PayPal, they might never know there was a problem or how much they might be ticking off their customers.

Another point I haven't seen mentioned is the specific Paypal service being used. For instance, aren't there different 'branches' serving different countries? What goes on overseas might not necessarily be an issue in North America. In all likelihood, the Paypal offices would be run by different people who might be more sensitive to "improper usage", especially if they are high risk countries using the service, ie: Nigeria as an example.

                      Just some thoughts.

No, you cannot use Alertpay to pay into someone's paypal account. Nor can you use paypal to pay into an Alertpay account.

You can make credit card payments through Alertpay, though, if the person you are paying has an Alertpay account. For example, if they have an Alertpay pay button on their site, and you click it to pay for your item, you can use a credit card to pay for it, just like at paypal.

Here in Canada we don't have the option to use Google Checkout. So until I find a suitable alternative to Paypal, it will be cash or cheques only for this eBabe!
What are the other payment options..?

I need to know that desperately myself.

PP has kicked a lot of butt of mine as well.
I had mine bite the dust 2 years ago and many people were telling me I would be losing sales without being able to use PayPal. I found this myth to be un-true because evidently, credit card is the #1 payment method online and a lot of big businesses transact without using (and some not even heard of) PayPal.

That being said, don't fret one bit: I still experience sales increase even though I don't use PayPal ever since. I use 2CheckOut (2Checkout.com - Merchant Account / Credit Card Processing Alternative).

ClickBank is another option though the processing fee is higher - however the idea of getting banned from these merchants for any frivolous reasons are unlikely.

P.S. Will be testing out Alert Pay one of these days and see how it goes too.

      Hi Dekko,
How can I use my credit card with Paypal when I'm blocked from Paypal?
I would presume that your paypal account is blocked. Even though you had the credit card attached to that account I believe that is a seperate issue.

Anyone can pay into someone elses paypal account with credit/debit EVEN if they don't have a paypal account.

Sorry to hear you got stiffed by them. Ebay and paypal have gone crazy recently, laying into their most loyal associates for no reason.

Take heart from Edmund above ^^^ he makes billions every week and manages fine without them...;-)

Yup.. if converted to Rupiahs. LOL

But on a serious note, really, don't sweat or think your business is doomed. Sure, you might not enjoy the low transaction fees as when you did with PayPal but I rather have peace of mind over wondering when my account will get limited or blocked any time for ridiculous reasons.

There may be drawbacks here and there with ClickBank and 2CheckOut, but they're easily compensated with other means.

PLUS they both accept PayPal payments which means you can reach out to the PayPal-using customers (plus other payment methods they've been adding now and then).

        Hope this helps!

I think its strange, to say the least, that none of our major Canadian banks have tried to set up a convenient online payment service as an alternative to Paypal. We can do email money transfers, credit card transactions and all of that, but nothing out there, to date, rivals the ease of use and market dominance that Paypal offers.
It has always baffled me that the US is always so far ahead of Canada on everything. It's been years since the Internet became the place of convenience for millions of people on both sides of the border, yet Canada still hasn't caught on. Odd, huh?

I can't even begin to guess what might have happened to your PayPal account, but I do often wonder what effect the hackers and scammers are having. Not infrequently, I receive PayPal emails from some lazy B..t.rd who would prefer to weedle into other people's accounts than get out and make a serious living. Is it possible someone has done the nasty on the accounts that have been banned? If that's the case, it's up to PayPal to fix it! Not punish the payers.

Frauds are known for duplicating web sites to make money off of honest businesses. If they take your PayPal links from your site and mess up your pages by creating such a site, I'd imagine that can really screw up your Paypal account. You can be sure they would have figured out some way to make money from such a scam. At the very least, they can have their own private joke about how they messed up someone's life.

Lots of possibilities to ruin your PayPal account.

I would keep on Paypal to get some clarification. If you have money in there, it seems dishonest to me for them to keep it because something went wrong with your account (by your own hands or someone else's).

          Hi Sylviad: Thanks for responding.

There was no money in my Paypal account. Because I never really trusted them I always withdrew deposits as soon as they were made, even if it meant paying the extra fees for amounts under $150. The last eBay sale for about $200 cleared the last week of July. I paid my eBay fees, waited 3 weeks before closing my eBay account in case of a charge-back, which to date, I have never had, my Paypal credit card, contact info, email address and bank account were verified and up to date. Last payment I made was to Big Mike early in August, which went through flawlessly. I haven't used my account since then. I also don't have any links on any of my sites to Paypal, or use Paypal payment buttons on anything I list for sale anywhere on the net. So it really is a mystery to me.

I will not pursue the matter with Paypal. I kept my end of the deal and have no regrets. Like I said, I was considering weaning myself from them, and now that has been done for me.

I don't use Paypal for anything I need. Only for things I want. So it is no big loss, just an insult and incovenience for this to have happened. If I find something I want badly enough and the seller is negotiable we will work out the payment options. If not, well, on to the next thing I am currently coveting!

But I will look into Edmunds methods and techniques! I LIKE the sound of billions!!!

And it will be interesting to learn about and try new payment options suggested by the others who kindly posted replies to this thread. There is always a silver lining in every cloud.

Paypal doesn't need me. I don't need Paypal. Tres simple n'est ce pas?

Ebay and PayPal sounds like a bad combination to me since both are constantly the target of scammers. It would be interesting to find out whether others who had problems with PayPal were also using Ebay.

Its no secret that PayPal & I have a very bad relationship - I've covered it before on WF so won't detail again. I'm still looking for alternative payment processors, and have narrowed down to either AlertPay or Kagi for my purposes, with Google Checkout as a second purchase option.

I too am disgusted with the whole eBay/PayPal bit and am moving away from eBay at lightspeed. Hope others can do the same.....

i need some answers too...i found out that with paypal you have a limited amount of money that you can receive per year or month (i dont remember), and if go past that sum i get my acc blocked, alot of ppl i know got trough this and they had to wait 4-5 MONTHS before they can take their money of the paypal account an into their credit card. so now ive decided to promote my products using click2sell.eu cus they only cost you 1-3$ at every sale you make, depends on the price of your product, but they can only pay you by paypal or moneybookers. now should i go with another company like clickbank or 2co, or stay with this? also since i live in romania i think if choose the check payment method it will take about 3 weeks to get the check. so what do you recommend? using moneybookers instead of paypal? or go with another company like 2co that they can send my money directly into my credit card? or by check?(from what i know you can choose that)

When it's a "horror story" where the person hasn't tried to find out the reason, I don't pay much attention.

For all we know, it's a simple mistake that could be quickly fixed by calling PayPal.

In regards to Dekko's seemingly unwarranted hammer blow from Paypal. Back in February of this year, I received an SOS from Willie Crawford regarding a program that I had purchased from him. He too, without warning, had his account frozen, and had to jump through all kinds of hoops to regain access to HIS funds.

Being the consummate professional, well, he wrote a 50 page report detailing his experience and Paypal's seemingly indiscriminate application of their policies, specifically their "acceptable use policy".

I offer this report to ALL of my list members and downlines. It's not a hard read, and at least gives them a better understanding of the obvious "no-no's". It can be hard enough to make a buck online without having your assets frozen. Tiered structuring, large balance fluctuations, $7 Reports ... it's all covered. Anyone interested is welcome to the free download.

Hmmmm ... unless I'm mistaken, Paypal is an affiliate of ebay ... ???

While here, a thread brought up the possibility of attempted scams. THESE ARE REAL! Twice in the last year I have received an email that was a carbon copy of one from paypal. Both were for "temporary problems" and "unexplained, curious activity". Both wanted me to log in to a link
that THEY provided and confirm my information.

Paypal DOES NOT do that! I reported both to Paypal, and received a notice that both WERE fraudulent websites and had been shut down. Careful out there folks ... it can be dangerous.

Are you sure you were even on the actual paypal site when you logged in?

I understand that there are viruses that you can get on your computer that redirect you to a phishing site when you put things like www.paypal.com into your browser. They make a page that looks just like paypal. When you put in your login info, then presto, they have your login info. And you never even knew you had been redirected. They have to come up with some message to explain why you actually did not get into your account when you logged in, so the site might return a "You are banned" message.

Hopefully, this is not what happened to you, but be sure to call paypal ASAP to find out if you even are banned, and clear up the problem.

Beware of such emails! They are mostly Phishing emails, looking for your login details so they can access your account and steal your money. PayPal will NEVER send you such an email, and certainly not one with a live clickable link. ALWAYS go to your PayPal account by either typing the PayPal address in your browser or a link in your favorites folder. If you check out the Source on those emails, you can usually find the fake link that is not Paypal. If you ever DO click such a link, immediately go into PayPal and change your password.

You really need to pursue the matter. It is possible that some aspects of your online identity have been compromised and PayPal is on to it and put a lock on the account. Since you don't sell with it and only buy rarely the possibility of account theft would concern me greatly. Don't let it lie, find out the reason if just to protect yourself legally and financially.

You're limited to receiving $500 a month unless you have a Premier Account, which is essentially a business account. There are also a $500 limit on paying out to the same payee during a month but you can raise this if you want. I ran into this limit when I started buying a lot of expired domains on GoDaddy.

I don't know about the international payments stuff though. It can get complicated, particularly to Eastern European countries.

Even if you have no plans to use PayPal again, it would be good to call them and see if they will tell you what the problem is.

If you aren't willing to do that, you really can't accuse them of anything. You would be like a customer who has a problem with a purchase, then badmouths the merchant without even asking them for help.

Now this I know not to be true in my country (Canada) ... I have 3 bank accounts listed in my Business account with PayPal and get it up quite high and usually just empty the account every week, except of course I leave cash for WSO's in there.!

Whenever I have a launch of a product and expect a rush of sales I immediately call PayPal and tell them. Once I was so nervous of them shutting me down because I had a lot of affiliates promoting a limited offer I stayed on the phone directly with PayPal through the first few minutes of the launch to ensure everything was fine. I even called them back a few times throughout the day just to be certain.

But one can never know I guess... I like to think I'm good to go but sh*t happens sometimes... and my kids still have to eat so frequent withdraws is a common practice for me and will continue to be until I eventually get setup with my own merchant account.

Yes, Paypal has done the same thing to me twice! The first time was for violating some type of clause relating to business opportunity information. They called it "fraudulent or high risk behavior."

I begged for them to review my site to see that there was nothing fraudulent or high risk about it...but they said once a decision was made, it was final and could not be changed.

I was selling an ebook on making money with ebay motors. I offered to show them all my business licenses and all my proof that I was making $1000 to $15,000 a week on ebay motors, but they simply weren't interested in my proof and decided for themselvels that what I was selling was just too good to be true.

In fact, all they had to do is go to my ebay account...or look at bank statements...or simply read the book that I offered to give them for free! Nope...they weren't interested.

I was so pissed at the time that I quickly registered paypalstinks.com (paypalsucks was already taken). I put up copies of emails, etc. It's still there, if you want to look...but it's nothing fancy...and it was a couple of years ago. The cartoon on the "about us" page is comical though...

This sort of thing happens with PayPal all the time. They aren't interested in your proof or other information, don't even waste your time. The PayPal staff is made up of magical mindreaders, psychics, philosophers and experts in every field who know far more about anything than you ever will. And when PayPal has spoken, thats it. Looks like the likely alternatives to PP are ClickBank, C2O and AlertPay.

It's funny that when I see this type of horror stories abt PP, I'll spend every dollar and cent ... it's shopping time!

Of the alternatives, I'm more concerned with AlertPay as I understand it is quite involved in HYIPs (high yield investment programs). In view with StormPay fiasco, I'll stick to CB and C2O for now.

I appreciate everyone's input and will remove the chip from my shoulder and contact Paypal to try to find out what has happened. It certainly is puzzling to say the least. I am a small, part-time seller on eBay - never have more that two or three hundred dollars in sales in a month, and often go months without selling anything at all.

I buy very little using my Paypal account. I don't click on any email messages or links that are supposedly from Paypal, but I do login in to my account at least twice a month to make sure everything is in order. And I don't have Paypal payment links on any of my websites, thank goodness. So this really has me puzzled.

I had never considered that I might be a victim of fraud, or compromised identity. Thanks for pointing out this possibility to me.

I will certainly look into it. And I will concede that I really don't have the right to complain until I actually know what is going on. Having said that, I think because I have had such nagging feelings about both eBay and Paypal lately, it was almost a relief to have this happen. I will try to sort it out, but I hope I never have to go back to depending on Paypal ever again. I will also look into ALL of the alternatives mentioned here.

Yours really a difficult case, Paypal is known to be the most reliable transaction through internet and it will be better you contact them by mail and get details about your case.

I don't post much but the same thing that happened to Dekko last weekend also happened to me at the very same time. I had both my PayPal and eBay accounts blocked, with apparently no chance of getting them back. Like Dekko, I had 8 years in with PayPal and 10 years with eBay, 100% feedback, all good. The only thing I noticed recently was that I had dealt with some unsavory buyers that didn't pay or that paid and tried to chargeback. And then two days ago, boom, my accounts are gone.

But I could care less. I refuse to be a slave to eBay/PayPal. The phone rep I spoke with said that the company has decided that I am a risk to do business with and I couldn't get him to escalate to a supervisor.

I am excited to be using 2checkout integrated with DLGuard for my two digital goods sites (I had been using the 7 Dollar script). I know with DLGuard you have to sort of do a workaround at this time to upsell a one-time-offer, but it doesn't look that hard to set up.

My great big crime with paypal was getting fifty bucks from my Mom on the holiday and they shut out my account completely. Unfortunately, I did not have the same credit card anymore so they decided that to protect me, they would also keep the 350 bucks that was in my account at the time as well.

I recently worked out a deal to reestablish paypal as I am just restarting online but as soon as I get enough money coming in, I will be looking for another merchant account. Merchant accounts are not just money transfer sites but actual financial institutions. They are more strict, have more requirements but can not legally shut down your accounts with absolutely no accountability like paypal can (and does)

Glad you did not have any cash in the account and my thoughts are with you but look for a merchant account. They can do everything paypal does and much much more.

    Just my two cents
