I am in the Golf Niche and need advice...

I am kinda bugging out with being in the golf niche. Its huge and I know that its very lucrative depending on how you attack it.

I have a few questions that I hope some may be able to answer.

1. My position is being a golfer that has played for 8 years and has a scratch handicap ( which I do by the way). I am answering peoples problems with solutions that have helped me with the same problem in the past. IE Slicing the ball.

My question to that is... Does this position me well? or could I do better? I still don't have that "marketers mind" everyone rants about. So please go into detail if you can.

2. I am using forum marketing as my only approach as of now. I don't want to get ahead of myself and spread myself too thin. My problem with this is that I can't seem to get very many visits to my site. my threads/posts have hundreds of visits but no one seems to be clicking to my site.

My email signature is " How to cut up to 7 strokes in 5 days!" Is that any good?

My site is golfswingquest.com and I think its ok. I want some honest opinions on what I can change and what not to change. The more detailed the better.

Thank you so much for who ever posts to help me out. If your in the golf niche already and have some insider tricks can you please PM me.

Thanks everyone!

To add I have 3 forums that I am actively participating and I have posted a couple threads per one with great drills and tips articles. I have also answered various peoples threads. I saw a total of around 130 views just from one thread with a few posts but only 3 click through's to my squeeze page.

Am I doing something messed up here that I have overlooked?

One of the biggest sellers you can use is your story behind becoming a scratch golfer and how if you can beat your slice then anyone can following your system. I.e the secret you found to beating your slice in 3 weeks or something similar.

Your story needs to come from being just like all those other people who are struggling right now and a solution which can help them all if they put in the work

I am a golfer myself (albeit a bad one whos not played for a while) but if i got offered a method that would cure my slice and help me play excellent golf for less than the constant lessons cost then I would buy it

I hope this helps a little

feel free to drop me message with any changes you make or sales copy and I will review as an amateur and poor golfer for you

Wear loafers instead of $$shoes and slip them off and hit the ball barefoot. And no, I'm NOT kidding.

You are posting in forums - but are you reading them? Go through all the threads that have a lot of conversation - mega posts. Then go get yourself a WP blog and start talking about what people seem to be interested in talking about.

I think this is the best advice right here. Join the conversation. Add to the existing conversation. Build it. Nobody cares that much about a showboat anymore. Nobody really cares about slick, glitz, and whistles. People are seriously hurting in this economy. They are finally asking for what actually works. All you have to do is listen to what they complain about with their golf game and fix that.

So, is anybody complaining about their slice?

All the advice on improving your website is right on - only what good is it if nobody is clicking through to even see it. But once you do getting them clicking through it better be worth it or they won't stay/return. what are your priorities?

Well for starters, if your post count at these forums are anything like your post count here then that can be your first thing that I would work on.

You have been a member here for a year now and have only 10 posts. you need to be on those forums everyday replying and occasionally creating your own threads with tips and tricks.

As far as your site, the benefits look Ok but your headline and headline font just doesn't do it for me.

I'm sorry, I've got to echo the sentiments about the headline and its font. A headline should grab people's attention quickly. They should not have to struggle to read it and it should not be a run on sentence.

Maybe "Slice Off 7 Strokes in 5 Days" in an easily readable font. Slice is a strong action word and relates to golf, so I'd keep that part.

Honestly, all of the copy could use some help. I'd suggest definitely reminding them that it is free and how the valuable information will be delivered.

You also might want to consider having some more meat on your site. Some posts with other tips, incorporating your story (as mentioned above) will help instill confidence with buyers and SE indexing.

Off the top of my head, here are some suggestions in blue: (remember these are just fast suggestions to give you idea; you'll surely want to tinker on your own)

      Totall agree with this!

Change up your signature, if people aren't clicking on the one you have that means it isn't working so try something else.

      Here's a thought.

If you are getting hundreds of people clicking on your threads, then maybe relook at your thread titles and use something similar.

      Why do I say that?

Well obviously your thread titles are capturing people's attention and getting them to click on it. And that is what you want them to do for your sig line.

So take one of your thread titles and adapt it as a sig line.

      Also, consider what joseph said.

If your post count is as low on the other forums as it is on this one, then that will have an impact on whether or not people will click on your link or not.

Not because people always look at post counts, but because a low post count means low visibility, and usually low credibility.

Although you don't have to have a high post count to have credibility, I am just saying it could have an effect.

Change your subject line for this post - Currently having an episode! Help...
I thought you were manic depressive or something. Imagine my surprise – GOLF!

So you’re “out there” attracting attention by joining the conversation and getting hits. If no one is even going to your site I wouldn’t even bother doing anything with it. Nobody cares about even clicking to get there. So the gap here is going from getting hits on your posts to getting them to click on your site. What gives? What incentive are you giving people for free to do that? None. I’m not even going to look at your site either. (No offense, but your site isn’t the problem, yet)

What is the competition doing? I remember golf ball sales or selling a new brand of golf clubs or anything in golf sales won’t ever do anything if you don’t have an actual well known pro behind it. so what sells in this market? (I’m not sure golfers are even on the internet that much . . . lol)

Style/teaching technique – what is it?
Is this your life? Attractive site (watch the commercials on the golf channel on TV –they’re actually often quite funny) How well do you know your customer? Golfers are a certain mindset. It’s a gentlemen’s competition.

Without a video to get to know you . . . then I would go back to google.

Have you talked to golf pro’s teaching at the courses? These guys are very protective of their turf. I believe they have to pay the course to even be able to teach there. Pay your dues, get connected, all that stuff. It’s like talking to people in the mafia for Pete’s sake. Hilarious if you . . . ah, never mind. You got a golf instructor who mentors you? Do you have golf coaching buddies who are doing something similar or related to you? Get them.

Back to the video. What examples can you post without giving everything away? Start with raw real stuff. You’re competing against YouTube and Tiger Woods here. People don’t have to read anymore.

You picked an awesome profession to get into. Golf is incredible. Love it!

      Hey chdduncan,

you've had some great advice here, and your conclusion is to give your site a facelift. That's a good start. One point though....

For the facelift, I'd advise you to go to the 'Warriors For Hire' section here and advertise your job. Get a professional job done. Costs are very reasonable, and it's far more likely to do the job you want it to do, which is to convert visitors into subscribers and customer.

So many people make the mistake of skimping on this and make do with home produced stuff that can look a bit average. So unless you're a graphics and copy expert, which like most of us, I'm guessing you probably aren't, get a proper job done!

Paying to get it done right almost always pays dividends. So that's my 2c.

The headline on your site is too long. The font also doesn't punch you in the face. Here's what I'd put:

Slash Up to 7 Strokes Off Your Golf Game in 7 days and Make Your Buddies Jealous!

Also, the call to action needs to be more enticing. Nobody is excited to get their "first email" from you.

    I'd start with that.

It would be a good idea to update this thread with all that you do. Too many times the same or similar question comes up and the replies are all pretty much the same. However, when a person keeps the thread alive you will get more advise that may help you. Don't be shy about asking specific questions and recommendations. When there is a friendly conflict simply ask in a friendly way which way works best based on people's own experiences.

Just try to keep it all in one thread.

Hmmm, so I got a little confused here. I thought the problem was getting people to your site. So many comments here were about improving your site. And that is what you said you would do.

How is that going to fix the problem of getting people from your forum posts to your site? I thought that was the problem. Isn't this a question of funneling or driving traffic to you site?

I did see one suggestion about fixing your signature that did address this. What else can you do to get people to click through?

Did I misunderstand the actual problem?

Besides the great information above, I tried to sign up to your list and it is saying "List Inactive" Also there is no other way into your site, so If I was a visitor after the 1st wall or block, I would click off. Rule of thumb, should be no more then 2 - 3 clicks away from where they want to end up.

Remember one major thing, SIZE DOES NOT MATTER, content and connection you have with your clients, if you give good honest information, help them, they will help you but sending you referrals and traffic because they will boost about your site.

Easy way for them to boost is social websites, how about adding a facebook, Twitter, G+ links on your squeeze page, being this is a HUGE hobby for many people and you provide a good content filled site, they should be quoting you left and right on their Facebook wall.

if you have a good targeted list of buyers, they will respond more then a bunch of tire kickers.

I love finding new traffic generation ideas. PM me any cool tips and tricks with traffic!
When people look for sporting tips they like to refer to visual referenes, so start up a YouTube channel! You are a step ahead of most internet marketers as you actually have 8 years experience golfing, so im guessing you actually know what you are talking about!

Next time you go play some golf with your bros, ask them to film you doing some swings and tips and stuff. Then when you get home, get some video editing software, and a GOOD microphone, and voiceover your footage, explaining what you do. An example is freez framing right before you hit the ball amd saying something like

"see how my golf club is angled here before impact, this is to make it go an additional 20 miles" <-- i have no experienc with golf lol, just an xample.

Throughout the video explain that the link to your complete course is in your description, but dont make the video a sales pitch. Add value to your video and it will increase viewer retention, and people will subscribe to you channel.

Remember to brand you videos as well. Create a logo and have someone on fiverr make you a video introduction, and have your logo watermarked in your videos. When starting out, buy 300 or so subscribers to look a bit more popular. People are always more inclined to hit subscribe when they see others have.

The optin form on your site is not working.

I think building a Facebook fan page would help you out as well. I would build a page and start to add content to it daily. Also spend a little money on Facebook ads this will really help you out as well with more traffic to your fan page and site. You could add an optin form on a fan page as well. The good thing about building a fan page is that as soon as you post on your page you can promote it with Facebook ads.

You don't have to spend $100 a day just spend $3 to get the ball rolling and when people see your posts and they like what they see a lot of times you will start to get viral traffic from the people on Facebook liking and sharing your posts. That kind of traffic can spread like wildfire!

Another good thing to do is build your blog. I checked your link and I see you have a wordpress blog ready to go. I would start to post on your blog, share your blog post on your Facebook Fan page. Also on your Wordpress blog add an optin form and a optin form pop up. The popup will definitely double your optins.

Seonutshell was correct 100% Video will Kill it in the golf niche. Build a Youtube page and add videos to it and share those videos on your fan page as well. He was also right about you having a step ahead of the game. People will know your real by your lingo, content and actions.

If you do not know how to set these things up just search this forum, Youtube and Google.

I know you wanted help with your page but I think your end goal is to help people and in the process make some money, so here is another way you can go about it.

    I hope this helps.

I fixed the opt in box and it is now active.

Thank you everyone for your tips.

My priority right now to get people to my site is PPC, Facebook PPC and various other ppc traffic.

At the moment I am getting a web designer to design a really nice looking golf squeeze page where I will begin like this...

Headline: "Learn from my countless lessons from pga pros and hundreds of practice sessions that have made me into a scratch golfer!"

Sub headline: I am only giving this out for FREE to the next 25 subscribers, once the spots are filled I will no longer be giving out these priceless golf tips.

Starting of body: I will be talking about how many years I have been playing and how many lessons I have had. I will also be talking about the countless practice sessions I have had. The main point is to tell people which drills and tips are best and which ones don't work. Something like that.

A call to action: Just put your name and email in the box below to get your subscription to my my 5 day email course and all the lessons and drills for free. (something like that)

      Then an opt in box.

How does that sound? I have already a 5 day ecourse in my aweber that I have poured my knowledge into fixing ones game. I also have a couple videos and tips from youtube videos I found that are helpful.

I will be sending an email out everyday with daily tips and tricks and videos.

What do you think about this approach?

If you are really a scratch golfer you can get your PGA card and become a teaching pro.

You can charge $100 an hour for lessons and use your internet marketing skills to attract new clients.
