Sold a site and 2 weeks later I get a paypal dispute. Help please

Hello Everyone,

2 weeks ago I sold a website to a buyer. The website domain name has been fully transferred and he is now the owner of the site. Last night I receive an email from paypal to say the buyer has opened a dispute and wants a refund. The money has been frozen on my paypal account until this matter is resolved.

I then receive an email from the buyer stating that the site is harder to run/get clients than he thoughts and its best that he gets a refund and walks away!!!!!

Could anyone help me with what rights I have to ensure firstly I win my Paypal dispute and secondly the buyer has to realise you cannot buy peoples websites, try them out and then decide you want a full refund 2 weeks later!

Also just to mention when you transfer a domain name, that domain cannot then be transferred for another 60 days! So he will be holding onto that too!

Let me know your thoughts.

No Earning guarantee, the only guarantee which was included and signed was outlining what the buter got and the time frames, of what all has been completed.

      Transfer of Domain and website

The website has made sales too under the new ownership.

Very shocked to receive the email and paypal dispute

Just provide as many details as possible in support of your case to PayPal. It's better if you can cite any agreement you signed with the buyer or at least emails exchanged. Good luck!

I have all email correspondance and even and email from the buyer saying this is harder than they thought!

Running a website is not as easy as people think but thats no excuse to agree to buying, paying and then wanting your money back two weeks later.

      Am i right?

I would escalate it to a claim and show the domain transfer (screen shot of whois), show screenshot of listing with him as buyer and screenshots of all communications with the buyer. I won one like that where the buyer filed a dispute after receiving the domain and website.

Or you could tell him you will give him a refund after he transfers the domain back to you. All you need is an account at the same registrar that the domain is registered in and he can push it to you. You do not have to wait any time to push domains from one account to another within the same registrar.

Get the site back. Tell the buyer and Paypal you will refund in full when the site is safely back in your ownership. (then watch in case you need to send any DMCAs if he's copied the content)

I was selling the site for a reason as I am funding a new project. As a result I need the funds and they have already been spent.

This is why its such a shock that the buyer has done this. The only option for me is to win this case so i need to ensure I have everything in place.

My only concern is that Paypal do not have a safety net for digital goods so i will take everyones advise and provide them with EVERYTHING so they can see the truth

You could read the thread before providing a response that just doesn't apply.
