Which one is the BEST blogging platform?

I researched a bit... & some experts says that "Blogger.com" is the best seo friendly blogging platform than any other.

So? what you guys think?

Wordpress is good as well but if I were to start a free blog, then I would probably use blogger since it belongs to google.

I would agree with this and I guess it depends on what you are doing on you blog.

It really doesn't, much. If post #10 of this very thread doesn't change your mind, then I wonder if this post from earlier today does? Let me know if you want to see another 50 or 100 posts like that, from different, experienced, successful Warriors, because they're all over the place. And then tell me you'd agree with what John said?! :p

Okay, now I am going to stand by what I said. Here is the thing, If I want a blog to say things like what my family did on vacation or how my dog likes to take long walks or to showcase my photos and am NOT selling anything or trying to make money...Blogger is great, don't you think?

Now, if I want to use it to MAKE money or as part of a BUSINESS...blogger is NOT good, isn't that right? So, I understand your point of view but I will stick by what I said. I trust that clears things up.

Yes, I can't argue with you at all, there. That's exactly what Blogger was designed for, and it works well for that, of course.

It depends on what you want to do with it. Are you trying to monetize a site or do you just want to blog a little?

I always recommend buying your own domain and hosting and you really can't go wrong with the WordPress platform.

If you go with a free hosting platform, you're stuck following their rules re: content, ads, etc.

Not forgetting that with free blogging platforms, you don't have access to useful plugins which will make your blogging life much much easier

You can't go wrong hosting your own blog with wordpress and blogging with it. Apart from useful plugins that get sold almost on daily basis, you'll also find traffic getting plugins that are of high quality. Hosting and domain name fees are not that high too.

If you want a free blog - then blogger as already stated above. You can actually monetize a "blogger" blog with adsense and amazon .. with a free wordpress blog you cannot.

If you are hosting your own blog on your own domain, then personally I would recommend wordpress without any hesitation

If you are blogging to be able to build your business around and
direct traffic you've built to send to your blog then you should
    always consider using Wordpress.

At least you then own your own blog and can customize it,
create it around your business and use it to your advantage.

Using FREE blogging platforms are good but if you are serious
about your business then look at paying for your hosting and
and use Wordpress along side it.

    Hope this helps

    Gavin

    Hello

Blogger blogs are okay if you are just starting out and want to get your feet wet without spending any money.

If you plan on monetizing your blog - never never use Wordpress.com as they will shut your blog down and you will waste any hard work you have done.

If you are willing to spend 99c I would recommend getting a .info domain name from Godaddy. Then installing a self hosted Wordpress blog.

You can get free hosting from Freehostia.com (I no longer used this company - but have used them a while ago and can recommend).

This would be a great way to experiment with Wordpress ( which is in my opinion the very best blogging platform) at low cost.

Please note Wordpress.com and self hosted Wordpress are different.

    Hope this helps.

Wordpress is definitely a legitimate choice if you want a diverse and reliable interface. If you don't mind paying a little it is worth the investment in the long run. As far as free platforms run I would say blogger is a solid choice and stands out amongst the other free services.

The reality is that there are only really four (partly overlapping) groups of people (in "internet marketing") who use Blogger ...

      (i) People who are unaware of the unnecessary risks

(ii) People who imagine that those risks are all problems that happen "only to other people" and that they'll be ok "if they stick to the terms of service" (this is, of course, nonsense but a lot of people believe it )

(iii) People who don't know that you can have your own reliably self-hosted WordPress blogs without even paying anyone a penny for the blog, the theme or the hosting

(iv) Very few people who still imagine that "they must rank well because Google owns Blogger" (seriously, there are still a few people who believe that - it's also nonsense).

It doesn't even matter exactly what the rules say, at Blogger: they're so idiosyncratically and inconsistently applied and interpreted that there's no point trying to decide these things "logically" or "reasonably". Even Blogger themselves openly admit that blogs are sometimes deleted as part of an automated process, without human intervention, when people (competitors?) "flag" blogs! :p

It makes no sense at all to let any part of your business be unnecessarily dependent on a site you don't yourself own and control.

And wordpress.com is no better and no safer than Blogger, also because of its terms of service and their enforcement. Self-hosted WordPress blogs are a whole different ball-game.

Freehostia, 000WebHost, Byethost, and other similar companies.

It's doubtless true that overall, paid hosting is better and more secure than free hosting. But it's also true that some free hosts are better and more reliable than some paid hosts. My point is that there's perfectly adequate, reliable, long-established free hosting available, in hosting places where the business-model is to impress people so much with the reliability and quality of the free hosting that they'll stay for eventual paid upgrades later. As many do.

I'm not talking about unreliable, new, untested hosts, or hosts who put their own advertising button on your sites, of course - that would be silly.

I know professional marketers who have been using Byethost successfully for many years, having originally started there with free hosting, precisely so that they could avoid depending on Blogger and suffering the unnecessary risks/accidents/disasters sadly encountered there by so many Warriors.

There isn't a way of knowing, Arif, and this is the problem.

I think it's fair to say that if you're blogging about blogging resources and writing articles about blogging itself, your credibility is going to take something of an adverse hit if people notice that you yourself are blogging at Blogger!

Have a look through the ten threads I linked to above (and 100 others just like them) and see whether you think all the other people who lost their sites that way are serious. And then ask yourself what you're actually gaining by using Blogger rather than self-hosted WordPress (but don't hold your breath waiting for a reply, because there isn't a realistic one). This issue's kind of a "no-brainer", really, isn't it?

Can't you pay someone else to rewrite these ebooks or even do it by yourself? It's less risky this way.

Agreed. You can find people on Fiverr that will re-write articles and ebooks. Or, just use PLR eBooks (or create eBooks from PLR articles and add your affiliate links in them) so you don´t need to worry about using material you don´t have the rights to.

Wordpress is pretty SEO friendly though too. Plus, as mentioned you can use all kinds of plugins on it (including ones for SEO).

I would always suggest using Wordpress over something like blogger and getting some cheap hosting. For just a few bucks a month, you can have a professional looking website and that alone beats Blogger hands down.

Edit: The next post you made showed up as soon as I posted mine.

I strongly suggest not linking to or promoting anything like that, not only with a blogger blog, but any type of website. Trust me, you just don't want to risk getting in trouble over that. It's not worth it by a longshot!

I feel Wordpress has good possibilities since it offers a bunch of plugins and feasibility to modify your resource in the manner you want. I myself have seen my blog on Wordpress getting page rank in 2 years and with PR2 I guess you understand you can make a good amount of money. So its like by investing small you can earn good. My vote goes to Wordpress.

If you want a free blogging platform, I would stay away from Blogger (blogspot) - I have lost several of my blogspot blogs without being warned. I have also lost a couple of free Wordpress blogs I created.

The most reliable free blogging services, in my experience, have been with Weebly, LiveJournal and Typepad. I have some free Weebly mini-blogs that are almost 5 years old. Webs.com seems to be good also, so far...

But the best thing to do is buy a domain (even an .info domain) at NameCheap and get some hosting with HostGator or Hawkhost. By having your own domain and paid hosting, nobody can randomly decide to delete your blog from existence, as often happens with free blogs.

You can be considered a "Blogging Resource" without posting copyrighted material.
You can make Top 10 lists with things like "The Top 10 Blogs for Bloggers" or "Top 10 Plugins for Bloggers."

The copyrighted books you are posting were written by someone. Link to their websites instead and make a post about "My Favorite Bloggers"

Anyway, if you really want to build a following, you are better off getting hosting ($5-10/month) and using Wordpress on your own site. It'll be much easier later if you ever get serious about it!

Bottom line: don't build your business on somebody else's website where they can shut you down overnight on a whim. That's a BIG risk, no matter how closely you 'follow the rules'.

Hosting is cheapppp nowadays, check hostgator or one of the many other shared hosts with cpanel, and you can install wordpress with a single click, and retain full control of the site.

'SEO friendly' doesn't really come into the equation, as others above have said you should be more worried about not having full control of your site, If you are at all serious get your own hosting.

But if you just want to test the waters and have a practice, a free blog is fine.
Blogger is good, as long as you read and stick to the TOS, and gives you more opportunities to monetize than Wordpress.com.

If you want to set up a free blog on the Wordpress platform with less restrictions Blog.com is pretty good.

Make sure you keep a copy of your work (in HTML to preserve the links) and keep images and other media you use in a folder too in case the worst happens.

Wordpress is best especially if you host yourself. The next best would be blogger. You can even make it look real professional by having someone design a template for you.

I have a friend in the Health niche who has used blogger and she now has page rank and does quite well with her affiliate marketing considering she is not your normal internet marketer and does her blogging part time.

Alexa is right there are some risk. Using "free" platforms have their limitation. I have a friend who has a non-commercial blog and she lost some of her post and pics on blogger. It made her nervous and she allowed me to transfer her blog to a self-hosted wordpress site where I back it up on a regular basis. This gives her peace of mind that her blog can be retrieved should something happen.

If you have no choice but to begin with blogger consider doing this till you can purchase hosting, set up wordpress and move you blog. You can then set an easy redirect and people who go to your blogger will be redirected to your wordpress self-hosted blog.

    Wish you the best!

I personally prefer Wordpress. It's got problems, no platform is completely flaw free, but it's easy to update, modify, and work. It also has huge amounts of plugins and themes.

With the exception of my current problem(can't edit themes after an update) Wordpress has been the best and easiest platform I've used.
