Amazon --> Viglink --> Skimlinks --> Nothing

10 replies
I'm one of the unfortunate souls who lives in a state in which Amazon has cut off affiliates due to the state tax issue. I was able to get around that for a while by using Viglinks & Skimlinks, but they are no longer honoring these links anymore...

So, I'm not sure what to do. I have sites with tons of Amazon products on them. I guess if I leave them as they are Amazon will get free traffic and I will get nothing.

I was wondering what other people in this situation are doing? Are you taking down your Amazon links and putting up links to products on eBay or other sites? If so, is there an easy way to do this?

Looking forward to hearing alternatives...

Thanks

      If you have a site that generates substantial amazon revenue, why don't you sell the site to somebody who is eligible to participate?

        I see that Missouri affiliates have been banned from Amazon as well. Where will this end? Can someone explain to me why Missouri and North Carolina are banned while Amazon reaches a deal with California? Anyone know why?

      I think this is the answer. If your sites are producing income, then they're marketable. And move on to something you can do legally, where you live, and get paid for reliably, without any administrative/contractual/regulatory/compliance problems.

      Not recommended; I don't think it will help. The affiliate's IP number isn't really the point.

    You could set up a single member LLC and a bank account in a state that is Amazon friendly. The address of the LLC, of course, would be in that same Amazon friendly state. Payments made by Amazon would go to the bank account you set up in that same Amazon friendly state. Once payments are made into that account by Amazon, you are free to write your self a check from that same account. Since this is a single member LLC you don't have to file a separate tax return for your LLC. All profits/losses flow thru to your personal tax return. It is a bit of work upfront but once it is done, you are set for life. I currently have 2 single member LLC and have had so for the last 12 years, although they are for real estate purposes and not for Amazon. I do not file separate tax returns for any of the LLC's but do report all income/expenses on my personal tax return. It is legal and Amazon does not have an issue with that. Once you set up an LLC, you can request Amazon to reinstate your account. My state is Amazon friendly but I do know several others who have set up an LLC in Delaware and to other states. It is legal and well worth the initial work if you make decent amount of money from Amazon.

    Cant you change your address and have your check go there to have it forwarded to your real address?

    What if somebody has amazon sites and travels to a "non amazon state" can they update there websites or are they going to run into trouble for just being in this non amazon area?

    What do you mean by this? I have skimlinks on a few of my amazon sites and the redirect is working perfectly.

    Well some will yell at me for this, but use a ip not in your state. Use a vps, need an address for a different state then buy one for 20 bucks.

    Why don't you just partner with someone in a state that's eligible. You guys split the profits. Of course, you have to find someone that you can trust to send you a check or money via Paypal each month.
