Where to start? (List Building)

Hello, I just got interested in Marketing and have no idea where I should start, but after browsing WF for about 10 minutes, every thing I read pointed to list building at the beginning, so I'm posting a thread to ask people, how did you start list building and how would you recommend for people start list building?

    First things first you need to pick a niche. What kind of products do you want to market? Do you want to go into the make money online niche, fitness niche, various health niches etc?

    Do you want to be an affiliate marketer and sell other people's products to your list, or be a product creator and sell your own product?

    Before you can start building a list you need to have everything planned out.

      I will be an affiliate marketer because I have no imagination or ideas and even less skills, but I'm not quite sure what niche I would want to target...

        What are your interests then? Pick a niche that you actually find interesting. If you are bored with your niche, you will most likely give up.

        If you go to clickbank.com and sign up for an account you can see all the niche products that they sell. There is everything there from Mixed martial arts to weight loss to gardening. Pick a niche that you think you are an expert in, or you could learn to be an expert in.

            No problem. This forum was great in helping me learn the ropes. One thing that can cut your learning curb quite a bit, is to get a mentor in whatever niche you pick. They have been there before, and can teach you what works to consistently make money.

    Hey Will,

    I would choose one from the following - Health, Wealth and Relationships.

    Any of the above will be a good direction to get started in. Pick one you most like, not one you think will be most profitable. Potential prospects can sniff a dodgy, unmotivated sales person a mile away!

    Dont rush in to things, but then again dont do nothing ! Spend your money wisely.

    There are many different ways to make money online and you will want to choose one method that you are comfortable with. Too often, most of them will jump to many different systems and they will not get any results.

    I will simply create a squeeze page to collect the details, promote a high converting product and simply just take massive action to drive traffic to the squeeze page. Just my 2 cents

      I have a question , this is exactly what I'm trying to do , I bought a domain and I've made the freegift and the follow up messages and everything is ready except the squeeze page , I don't know what host shall I chose after the disaster that happened with hostgator and bluehost aand Aweber ! so please recommend to me a good host and I'm gonna use getresponse instead of aweber now .

      and my question is , Can I install wordpress on my host and make a squeeze page without making a blog , using a plugin , I mean can I turn the home page or let say the first page of wordpress into a squeeze page and name it www dot mydomain dot com/nameoftheniche so I can make many other squeeze pages using the wordpress plugin and my domain , I hope you'll answer my question as well as other warriors , Thank you all.

    Firstly I chose my niche, then I started to build my list through twitter which was pretty successful, I've moved on to many other ways now though.

    I had a mentor of sorts and it does really help, even if you find a membership site you can be a part of for a monthly fee. I'd suggest Chris Farrell, he explains everything really simply and the membership site is awesome, loads of tutorials and a forum.

    I currently use Hostgator for hosting my domains. I did have some issues with them awhile ago, but everything seems to be working now. I have never been with Bluehost, so I can't say anything about that hosting account.

    As for autoresponders, I also use Getresponse and they have some great tutorial videos that can help you out. Check out this link to watch the tutorials: Video tutorials - GetResponse Support

    As for using the main page for a squeeze page, it will work if you have some type of plugin. I know that many people use Instabuilder to create their squeeze pages. I don't personally use this, so not sure about it.

    I use hybrid connect, it is a plugin that will create all kinds of optin boxes and it will even do popus, it does almost anything that you want it to do.

    Yes it will even create a squeeze page for your front page.

    There are so many different types of plugins that you can use to do this. I also recommend starting a blog about the niche you are in. This has helped me get more visitors to my site. Which in turn means more optins for your email list.

    Use other methods as well and promote your squeeze page to get some optins as well.
