Website with your name.com?

Hello Warriors,

I am thinking about creating a website all about anxiety and treatments etc. possibly creating ebooks, or a service and since I am a trained mental health nurse was thinking it would be best to use my name as the address and state my profession on the website to help promote trust and show I know what I'm talking about.

However I have a professional code of practice to adhere too and wanted to know how safe it would be to sell a service/ebook online in regards for my professional career. Also anonymity comes into it as I don't want people I treat finding my details and trying to contact me out of work!

Anyone else in a similar boat? What did you do?

I guess I could make a name up and put my face to it or create a name related to anxiety?

You could always write under a pen name, I know that's a really popular solution.

    Sounds good to me.

You need to ask The Royal College of Nursing this question, I think, not the Warrior Forum?

That's a different matter. But it's possible to combine the benefits of each, I think: you can use a pen-name and then say on your website "Mr. P. Name" is the pseudonym of a Registered Nurse who works at XYZ Hospital but prefers, for professional reasons, to keep his identity private on his websites (as long as all that's true). I've seen people doing this sort of thing.

I value anonymity, and have never used my real name on any of my business websites at all. But I have no professional expertise or qualifications in the area of any of my niche websites anyway, so it isn't really relevant to your question. This forum and a few very small, personal, non-commercial blogs are the only places online where I use my real name.

Thanks for help I think I will go with a pen name and forget about using my own name!

I know I just thought there would be other people on these forums who may have training in similar professions and run websites.

There definitely are - but the situation tends to vary for each person which is why Alexa suggested going directly to the source. All that anyone here can do is provide "general advice" based on past experience.

You can use your first name like "health with Adam", "ask Adam" or something like that.

Do you feel it is safe to expose your face? If so that would be a lot of trust benefit as most health websites use the same stock image.

      Thanks Mistermunch,

I wanted to use my face and my name and other than the above issues I don't have a problem with it and can see a lot of benefits there!

I would probably still use my photo but with a different name to keep some anonymity but at the same time be real to potential customers.

I did think of a different name completely such as anxietynurse or a pen name, adamdavids

      still playing with names!

I hate those stock images, puts me right off from the get go... screams FAKE.. or maybe it's just me who's seen to many websites

I find this a touchy subject. I used to be in a similar position, and it's a real catch-22.

If people get to know you, they trust you more, and so they buy more from you too.

If you have to hide, you'll always feel like you have a big handicap - and worry about being found out too.

In fact, I have never been able to figure out how to run a shoppingcart and/or email service without disclosing some personal info. Unless you create a corporation!

That could be your solution. And then create a persona where it's obvious it's a real person not divulging their real name for the reasons given above.

Something like your health ninja nurse... Have some fun with this.

I know of a number of people who did that sort of thing, from Bob the Teacher to ... can't remember the name now.

Anyway, you could be Adam The Anxiety Buster or something...

      Good luck!

    Hi Adam,

As a former search engine evaluator, I can tell you that the ONLY way to achieve authority and page ranking on your newly proposed website is to use your real name and espouse your professional status and authoritative degree of information.

Websites that are comprised of information that affects a persons well being, health, or money are denoted by search engines as "YMYL" (Your money or your life) sites.

YMYL sites are ranked on their obvious transparency in order to verify that the content is vital, useful, and/or relevant. Any YMYL site MUST present lots of contact information confirming your site's medical information validity and professional status.

A really good way to appease the search engines with your website's professional content is to have guest authors with equal or higher medical credentials than yours to contribute to writing original content.

I would suggest to never create a site or content that you cannot divulge your authenticity, otherwise it appears to be misleading or deceptive. Those kinds of sites will live forever in the Google sandbox.

Much success to you and your new venture!

it might work to your advantage to disclose your real name and profession, you can probably mention bits and pieces about it and your experience without giving away too much and without having trouble with your past patients.
