Depending on the market/niche, I often completely re-write and re-brand related PLR products, making them into totally new and unique products that way over deliver value-wise.

Sometimes, I create my own bonuses from scratch. I also create simple software applications from time to time that I offer as incentives or um-announced bonuses.

Wow! doing a good job. Your attracting your customers by these type of bonuses. You may give some useful things for their home needs from your commissions. or discount to the customer to the next purchase. You should tell them about prior intimation.

PLR is the best stuff to give the bonuses I think.
Making your own bonus will be pricey but it's very good that no one else has it. It's exclusive for you

As others have said, PLR. If you realllly want to overdeliver then try adding video or audio accompaniments (give a visual to what is being explained).

I use PLR products as bonuses. You can pick up so much different types of PLR products in video, ebook's, plugins...etc. You should not have any difficulty finding some.

Yup. PLR products work well, especially if you bundle them into packages that make sense. You can also throw in one or more of your own products if you have them...

As several have said, adding your own products or really redoing the PLR stuff really adds value as you're making them unique.

Go through the product and see where it's lacking or could use further clarity. Make a bonus that covers the shortcomings or provides that clarity. If it's been for sale for any amount of time, check the online reviews to see what other customers think is missing or needs to be explained better. Put together a bonus package that takes care of that. Throw in a free 1/2 hour skype consult, email help for a week, etc. and put up your links.

I really like your response, this has all of the ingredients needed to make a great bundle package deal, along with a great low price for the Warrior Room, and you have yourself another winner.

I'm unsure whether to reply, and I hope what I have to say doesn't come across "the wrong way", but in the interests of a different perspective ...

I've never given anyone any bonus for purchasing through my affiliate link, and I don't intend to.

I don't want them to choose my link because I'm offering them some kind of freebie as part of the deal; I want them to choose it because I'm the person they trust and like, who has built a relationship with them such that they trust my recommendations repeatedly, because I've never misled them or let them down, and because they have a clear understanding of how affiliate marketing works and want me to earn a commission out of it. In other words, I want them to choose to buy that way without further incentivization arising specifically in respect of any individual purchase. I like to think of it as "looking further ahead than one sale" (yes, well, I would say that, wouldn't I?).

I must agree with you and say that I think your answer is the best so far, even if I don't always operate that way myself.

I really do strive to build a mutually trusting and authoritative relationship with my clients and customers. I only promote products of real value that I have purchase and evaluated, and or used myself.

But... Your business model and the fine ethics that accompany it would be more applicable to your existing list. I guess I misinterpreted the OP's original question, by thinking that she was talking more about the first sale from a new prospect and list building in general. That is, where a visitor might happen upon your squeeze page, and have no prior knowledge of you.

Yes, this initial contact between you and your prospect is very important, with the optin or sale being your primary objective, but at this point in time your relationship with your customer is still in its infancy. Your customer will not yet have that trust you will work so hard to cultivate. It is here, where I use high value bonuses to nudge the prospect to heed my call to action. After the initial purchase, I continue to over-deliver, not only with advertised bonuses, but with unadvertised ones as well, giving my new customer way more value then he or she ever expected!

This I believe, speaks well of me in the customer's mind and they are more often than not, willing to purchase a big-ticket item from me based on my recommendation, later on down the road.

Otherwise, I totally agree with you and I'm glad you gave your input. All of the other suggestions and comments, including my own, left out the critical trust and authority building relationship aspect of building a real business, and incurring residual sales and income.

Take all I have to say with a granule of salt, for I am just a lowly cog on the gigantic sprocket of Internet Marketing... what do I know!!

Yeah that would be ideal but maybe sometimes buyers need that extra reason to make a purchase. Especially in the IM niche people pretty much expect a bonus for buying through an affiliate link. You have people who are shopping around for the best price/bonus package.

That sounds to me like a very good reason - not that I needed another one - to avoid "the IM niche" (it isn't really a "niche" at all, of course).

Personally, I avoid it anyway, partly because I'm primarily a ClickBank affiliate, and there's clearly not much point in promoting IM-related products at ClickBank: it would be pretty hard to be paid many of the commissions I'd earn, because a significant proportion of the potential customers for those products are themselves ClickBank affiliates already, and they're hardly going to buy a product through my hoplink when they can it through their own, are they (since ClickBank allows this)? :p

Personally I create the bonuses myself.

I feel that using PLR is just lazy and that you should already know enough about your niche, your target market and their needs and desires that coming up with content for a bonus shouldn't be too much effort.

I also agree with others that Bonuses are great for new customers who don't know you yet. But I also use them for people who have been customers for a long time, because like UnkwnUsr said, it is a way to get the people who are on the fence just one more reason to buy.

And sometimes it's the bonus that pulls them off the fence and gets them to make the buying decision.

If I do a bonus on a product I do it to add value to the offer and my customers.

With that said - I will often try to create a simple software or video guide that helps them with some area I though the product I'm promoting was lacking.

Sometimes we find a nice product but realize that the product creator didn't explain one technique deep enough or whatever. So I try to add value in that way.

I try not to just give out a bunch of PLR stuff that can be downloaded anywhere.

But you have to be careful when you offer bonuses - if you ALWAYS offer a bonus then the first time you promote something and don't offer a bonus your customers will get upset. In other words - they will come to expect a bonus every time.

So you should pick and choose when you offer bonuses and what you are offering. As Alexa stated - you can give the wrong impression with bonuses and it's a fine line to walk.

    Cheers,
    Coby

This is one case where you can have your cake and eat it, too - if you make the cake right.

Don't call it a bonus for buying through your link. Just make the bonus something that would only appeal to buyers. The idea of an add-on that fills in the gaps works well for this.

You recommend the product, explain why, and explain that even this product has limitations. To that end, you've created a supplement, and all people have to do to get it is send you their receipt number. Explain that the supplement without the original could be counterproductive, hence the receipt requirement.

Then steal a trick out of Paul Uhl (MYOB)'s book - give the supplement to anyone who asks for it. But make sure another affiliate link is inside for those who ask without buying first.

Do it well, and it can even get you some sales from the folks who ask without buying.

Warning - do it badly, and it can harm the relationship you've worked so hard to build.

In the IM/MMO field, all bets are off...

Depends what product a bonus is being offered for. I keep all the content I create so I normally pick and choose out of my previously created products and giveaways. Also, you could buy stuff from plr store but that lowers the quality of your bonus package. Sometimes i'll even create new bonuses for a given product because you always want to offer a bonus that is complimentary to the product you're promoting.

This is what I would do. I don't do bonuses for buying through my link but when I do reviews, sometimes I'll find something not explained well and I'll give the instructions in my own blog or email.

Me too. I never do bonuses. I'm busy working on other stuff. I do have people emailing me specifically to see if I have a bonus - but I always say no. As a buyer, I never look for bonuses. I just buy through someone's link who I like and trust.

I'm in the IM niche and I make sales with no bonuses. Some ask for what my bonus is, and that's fine - there will be those. But not everybody does

I create the bonuses myself just like I would a paid product.

For bonuses to work well they need to be something unique and valuable.

If your bonus could not stand alone as it's own paid product then it's not good enough.

If you want to add some bonuses for your main product, PLR's are a good way to go. I think most IMers here with their own products are using this kind of tactic for bonuses.

If you do what most other marketers do then you never stand out. That's why I would recommend against just always using PLR. Take a little extra time and money to create a bonus that is unique and made just for that purpose and it will pay off ten fold in results. Trust me on that one.
