Building Authority Sites in 2013

Is anyone here still building authority sites in 2013 to push CPA offers to?

I remember when SEO used to be the cat's meow, I think I might be able to find success through social media and in-app advertising to build a following and using the facebook fans as my "List".

I build authority sites. I use mostly social media signals to determine demand for topics and cross reference it with search volume.

Of course this works, but personally I've found much more success in affiliate marketing than CPA.

I find (personally) the higher-reward/higher-work versus low-work/low-reward to be the defining factor in the CPA vs affiliate marketing.

It's super easy to get 5 people to do a CPA offer, but if that's an email submit, can you really scale that up to serious profit? I feel like you could sell unlimited products, but never unlimited CPA submits.

      CPA is considered affiliate marketing...

CPA is affiliate marketing, if you mean being an affiliate of a company and doing their work/marketing.

But I really should have been more clear. I see CPA as CPA, and affiliate marketing as high-value products/services.

I was trying to advise him to go after big ticket items for aff marketing.

    Here are more tips.

My authority sites have the following

    1) longtail clusters for a low competition traffic base

    2) competitive regular keywords for context

    3) Infographics for pinterest and social media traffic

    4) Videos

    5) No ads for several months while building content, link alliances, and a community

    6) and of course... a LIST

To answer the OP - I do, but CPA isn't the only thing I push. I push whatever the market tells me to push.

In response to this quote and to anyone who wants an alternative way than this, if you harness social media correctly, you can skip #s 1, 2, and 5.

Here's something to remember about Facebook though. When someone Likes a Facebook page, they often set it not to show updates in their newsfeed. This means that only a fraction of these people will see any of your updates, and that's only when they're on Facebook. I'm not saying it won't work, but it will be much less efficient than building an email list unfortunately.

SEO these days is running a blog, content is seo. Social media can be great depending on your market. I've found that pinterest can be amazing sometimes.

Yes, there are still many niches to go into in terms of CPA.
