Marketing your petition

by mgreene 5 replies
Hello,

Perhaps unlike many of you, I need to market something that will not make me money, but instead (hopefully) improve society as a whole and raise awareness of an important issue.

I have started a petition on the White House website asking the Obama administration to address the obesity epidemic and reduce the availability of high-fructose corn syrup. As many of you know, HFCS, in addition to providing no health benefits (just refined simple carbs), may be linked to obesity and diabetes.

My petition's ultimate goal is to familiarize people with the negative health effects of HFCS and start a national discussion of obesity, corn subsidies, diet, etc.

HERE is my petition if anyone wants to read it: wh.gov/lCiH9

My question is: how do I persuade people to take the time to look at my petition and sign it? Any marketing tips? I have already tried social media, email, etc.

Thanks!

Treat it as you would any other marketing campaign.

A holistic approach would work well for this; Social Media, forum posts from relevant forums, post optimized Youtube videos, Slideshare, etc.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to set up a website for it so you can properly SEO it and give people a place to go for relevant and useful information (maybe have articles about obesity, etc.), and have that site act to "pre-sell" your petition.

    Good Luck!

Lol someone is going to take that advice and run with it. The next thing you know there will be 100 gigs on Fiverr offering to sign thousands of names to White House petitions

The best place to get something like that in front of as many people as possible, is Facebook... Post it, and ask all your friends to either like it, comment, share it, or better yet sign it, and you'll be surprised how fast it branches out...

Does anybody know of any particular website on which I could promote my petition (and I don't mean a petition website like change.org or moveon or the like). Would any of you guys be willing to sign (hehe)?
