What Membership Site Software?

I want to put up a membership site for MRR and PLR e-books, software, graphics etc

Any ideas on what membership site software I should use?

Being a bit of a technophobe I need something that a 2 year old could use!

And as cheap as possible - free would be even better

Thanks

Amember is without a doubt the best membership script, it's not free but it's ease of use, wide array of support, and easy integration of payment methods make it top notch

I recommend Joomla with the AEC plug-in. They're both easy to set up and (best of all) free.

Me Like Wordpress with WP-Member which is not free but cheap. You can also use other plugins which are free.

Here is my membership site so you can see one in action.

    Pace,

If you are not archiving content then use your Cpanel to create a password for the folder your members area is behind. Change it each month and email members the new password.

    Intre,

No sure about WP-Member, but member.wpwishlist.com does have drip. So does Amember with a plugin.

I produce my websites using Microsoft FrontPage

Can I use that to put up the web pages with details of products and download links, and then link the membership site script to it, so the site can only be accessed by members?

Honestly, I think you are going to need to move into something that runs off of a programming language like PHP. Frontpage may not do it for you here. You may even want to get some help at first, but it will be well worth it once you start to see the power of scripting languages.

It is better to have a membership script that will allow you to build the sales pages and have the payment, register, login all in one solution...

Depending on what your long term plans are, I would recommend Simple Member Pro or the RAP Members Combo package. Both work well and the support is excellent. Both developers are members of the forum.

    Hi Pace,

Why not pick up Delavo (TM) for free on the 17th of this month (it is based on JVManager 2 Fantasos).

You just need to be on the list to get it for free.

Failing that, if you don't need affiliate tracking, John's Little Script For Running A Membership Site can be had for $47 and is a breeze to use.

Give me a shout (P.M.) for links to either - more than happy to help.

You should think long term and not just short term.. You may want something that is very simple right now but what about later down the road when your site gets bigger and requires more functions or features ???

Jumping on the lowest cost or free option is not always best.. Getting what you need and want that will last you and be secured will be a better option in my opinion.

First and foremost security should be your "main" concern with any membership script.

    Hi,

I beta tested SMS when it first came out. It is the prelude to Simple member Pro, but does work quite well. I would recommend it for getting started. Check the features to see if it meets your needs first, but it's a good script.

Wow, another "What membership script do you recommend?" thread on the heels of my own.

So here's another question for you all on membership scripts:

I'm in the process of designing/launching a simple membership program. I want to keep things as easy and simple as possible. For testing and cashflow purposes, I want to keep my costs as low as possible. Briefly, my setup and requirements are:

      1. My Web site is WordPress
      2. The script needs to integrate with PayPal and AWeber.
      3. The ability to give members 1-3 free months with recurring billing kicking in thereafter.
      4. Various levels of membership (Silver, Gold, Platinum, etc.)

I've narrowed my choices down to WishList and AMember. (AMember integrates with AWeber, right?) WishList is half the price of AMember and for now I'm favoring WishList. As someone else in another thread pointed out though, I don't want to go with the lowest price and have serious limitations as my membership base and program grows.

      An example membership program:

Customer buys lead product which comes with one free month of membership. Members are enrolled in mastermind/marketing program which includes:

      1. One mastermind/training teleseminar each month (with physical CD of the recording shipped out each month) and

      2. Monthly done-for-you e-mail/AR marketing campaigns.

This is aimed at offline clients.

So as you can see, there's a physical component (which, for me at least, always provides greater perceived value than digital-only products) as well as a done-for-you component. Together, I think such a membership program offers superior PERCEIVED value and should thus significantly reduce my dropout rate.

The done-for-you e-mail marketing component is a HUGE part of the membership program. I know offline business owners don't necessarily want to be bothered with learning and then doing their own e-mail marketing. So by integrating a necessary, done-for-you service into my membership program (which eliminates a headache for the business owner) they're more likely to stay enrolled, and my drop-out rate should be significantly minimized. If they stop their membership program, their e-mail marketing campaigns stop.

Of course, I can add a forum and other online content (articles, etc.) as a bonus, but the core benefits of membership is the mastermind and done-for-you e-mail marketing.

Would WishList handle something like this (physical products AND intangible services)? I don't see my core offerings really changing over time. So really the only thing that would change as I grow would be my membership base. So would WishList be appropriate or would AMember be more appropriate?

As I said, I'm willing to purchase a more expensive product if it's the better fit to handle growth. But I don't want to buy more than I need either.

      Thanks for your help!

        Hi Michelle,
Here is my thing and this may be the developer in me talking but I have built thousands of sites and ran hundreds... When I say I have built, I mean just that.. I have not used anykind of free open source code such as wordpress to build a site.

With that being said I feel a membership based site should be just that a membership site. Not a wordpress blog with this plugin or that plugin. The reason I feel this way is because wordpress is open source code and there is no way I would leave my business (customers emails, customers contact info, personal info, financial stats, and etc) upto a open source platform that many know has been a huge target of attacks by hackers.

A membership site should be a script that is not open source and that is very secure. Now we all know nothing is 100% secure but personally I feel a great deal better when I am running a script that is 95% secure vs many other scripts that have no security at all. Your membership script should not only be easy for you to run but also easy for your members to use.

Example: Let's say you create XYZ product and create a membership site for the product. The product sells well and you have built a good membership base this XYZ product requires a monthly recurring payment. What happens if you want to create another product (related or not to XYZ) that is also a recurring monthly payment ?

The old way - create another site, install another membership script, have twice the management and etc ...

The New Way - Login your admin panel and just create another site with the same membership script that you already have installed. The site is created directly from the admin area and it allows all current members to but the new product + allow new customers to purchase. The new customer would get access only to that new product, while current members will have access now to both products.

Best of all everything is still on one domain and eventhough you have customers that have bought 2 products now with recurring payments they only have "ONE LOGIN" - No need for another login at another site.

This new way you still handle everything from one admin area.

Now let's say you want to take it a step further and someone contacts you about doing an affiliate JV.. And offers to sell your product as an affiliate if you will sell their product as an affiliate.

The old way - add links, banner, send out a mailing to your members, maybe even create a page for the product.

The New Way - Using the same exact membership type script as mentioned above. Login your admin panel and create another site only this time select it to be an affiliate review site which requires no login or registration.

By doing this all current members will see and have access to this affiliate review site and you will be creating your own site for the product which is actually more effective than just adding banners or links to your site.

You see there is the huge difference between using a blog platform with a bunch of plugins vs using a real membership script that was built for membership type sites... Having your functions all built into one site without the need of "other" plugins that are coded by different people gives you far more of an edge and possibilities not to mention being more secure...

This is just my opinion though...

Actually aMember is very limited itself ... Although it has many features it also lacks in many ways and the learning curve of using the system is another thing to consider.

What I explained above is just a small part of the new membership script I will soon release which is 100% custom coded from the ground up and will be 3 times less than amember. If you are interested in knowing more send me a PM ..

Thank you all for the education - I hope my research can contribute to yours...

Is there an effective Social Networking AND Membership Management Solution?

I've been doing WAY too much reading/research and now my brain is pretty much mush....however, I still do not have a solution for what I want MY new membership site to do.

              What I'm looking for:
An integrated Social Networking AND multi-tiered membership site

              specs:
              - different membership levels, free, golds, silver, plat, etc... restricting different levels of membership from different content
              - recurring billing for an advanced areas of site
              - secure billing mgmt for users to update freely
              - helpdesk
              - integrates into both my merchant gateway and paypal
Social Networking that allows my free/fee users to create profiles, upload thier own content, chat, forum, share audio/video and other media with each other (gotta have a good bandwidth $$ solution here),and generally tag, tweet, and relate to each other

              The wishful thinking extras:
              - drip content / rotating content
              - member-activity bonus points that encourate users to participate when they get free 'stuff' in points

-- and all this with entering only a single password

Here it is the results of those services I have checked:

" WishList.com is the premier online gift registry and social shopping community that enables members to give and receive the perfect gifts. It's a free, universal site that couples personal gift registry and social networking with online price comparison to provide a fun, efficient shopping experience unrivaled by any other site. WishList members have the ability to personalize their profile, create and share an unlimited number of products and lists, reserve gifts and interact with each other. Social Networking Software Platform & Social Media Community Building Applications - KickApps
That seams to be a really evolved social media software, but it does seem to have a paid membership module. To be able to use paid membership, you need also to install Joomla, and though the Joomla member management system and kickapp's plugin for Joomla

(And, I cannot do Joomla ever again - I've had two sites hacked/malwared/ to death because I used Joomla!)

              See what they say:
"Social and media applications are now a core component of any website--enabling rapid audience growth, increasing audience loyalty and creating new revenue opportunities from incremental advertising inventory and sponsored programming.

KickApps Social Media Solutions for Web Publishers offers a complete solution that can be easily integrated into an existing website and Content Management System (CMS), or KickApps can help you reinvent your website completely.

              * Enable your audience to participate in the multilogue on your website by joining an online community, contributing user-generated content by uploading photos, videos, audio and blogging, commenting, rating, tagging and sharing editorial and user-generated content
              * Community specific programming that engages and encourages participation on your website
              * Create multiple new revenue opportunities from more intelligent advertising, creation of incremental advertising inventory and sponsored programming "

              To the question:

              "SSO and Paypal Subscription

Hi, I am aiming to create a social network for readers of our (printed) magazine, as part of a premium subscription package.

I would like to know if SSO can be used with membership software such as Amember or Omnisecure to provide a payment gateway that automates the process of collecting subscriptions and allowing only paid-up subscribers access to the social network area, as well as de-authorizing those who don't renew their subscription.

If so, would it be fairly easy for someone conversant with html, css and web-designing but no programming experience to implement?

Thanks in advance for any responses. Graham "
              They answer:
              |
"You can achieve this with SSO, but all the payment steps would then live on the external platform. At that point KickApps has no idea what you are doing, and it's all up to you.

For payment, you have many options, all basically dependent upon what you end up using for your SSO platform. For example, you could use Joomla, Drupal or WordPress - and our plugins - and then grab one of the many available payment systems available. You could also get someone to hook our SSO system into a commerce platform like magento.

Apologies for the wait on this thread! Respond here if you have more SSO questions."

Again, paid membership management doesn't seem to be included in the kickapps service. You only get to manage your members if you install Joomla/Drupal/Wordpress + the kickapps plugins for them. Besides, it seems that their support is not very responsive, I have seen some complaining about this (even for the question above it took them half a year to respond.) And, it seems to be expensive, too. If your site goes well, your have to pay them much. (Thay charge you based on page-views.) Surprisingly, socialgo seem to provide all that we need: paid members, website, chat, forum, custom member profiles, see What is it - Your Own Social Network Website & Online Community - SocialGo . The ideal solution would be the Socialgo-Concierge (Let Us Build A Social Network For Your Personal or Business Website - SocialGO), but that is rather costly before I know how good I'm going to be enrolling paid members --> $150/month. I would consider a try with the Socialgo Premium product 25$/mo (SocialGO | Social Network Maker - Create social networking websites, blogs, forum & more), including the Member Billing System for 20$/mo. (I think the member billing system is through Paypal.)

Amember is the best (IMHO) for membership site. If you just start this, I would say use it. It is simple to use, but has rich features.

JVM is great for affiliate programs, but I never used it for membership. And it is not very straightforward to use. JVM2, I have it, but never used it since JVM1 is good enough for me.

EasyMemberPro isn't free but a two year old, OK 12 year old could use it.

It's the easiest membership script to configure and update I've ever come across, and includes all the bells and whistles you could need like a build in affiliate management program.

With a 60 day money-back guarantee you can't go wrong.

    Anisa,
95% of what you want my script already offers and it is all-in-one solution.. There are no plugins or add-ons created by some other coder. The script is built 100% from the ground up. Yes it has one login and has many functions other membership script do not have, including security.

It allows users to have their own profile page but the social network aspect that you require would require a great deal of coding and thus cost money. Sure you could always find "plugins" for some other cheap script. Fact is that is a bad idea because the more you try to force coding from different developers to work together the more of a security risk you are taking.

Thanks for the info James... and good advice re - custom development/plug-ins.

I'm still not ready to give-up on my desire for full social networking AND membership. I'm not even opposed to custom-coding and developing my own but it sure would be nice to have something ready to roll sooner than later.

I'm sure it exists I'm also sure I haven't found it yet... but will keep searching.

Do notify me when yours is ready!

      Thanks!
