Lots of Traffic, no Earnings

Hi,

I have a website, in which I produce news, guides and reviews etc

I'm consistently getting 600+ traffic a DAY!! from google and other sources.

However, I'm struggling to even earn 10 pence a day (using Adsense)

How can I properly monetize my website?

Thanks

Well, it's difficult to say without seeing your site. What sort of keywords do people use to find you?

What keywords are people using to find your site?

What type of Adsense ads do you have on your site?

    What is your CTR?

Without more information (or seeing this site) this question is impossible to even attempt to answer. With those traffic numbers you should be able to earn much more than you are. Could tweak adsense colors, formats, locations of ads, try other ad networks, get leads, etc...

No problem buddy. Careful what kind of info you put out in public... Adsense has some strict policies regarding this. On another note, I can tell you if you get the monetization right with 600 people coming to your site daily, you can earn some cash. Something else to consider, you can also get paid for leads which sometimes means simply capturing an email address, zip code or something simple like that and companies may pay you $1 or more in some cases. Just something to think about.... Adsense isn't the only game in town.

So, I've tried adsense, no luck. I tried Amazon, had a few click throughs but no money.

I also have a signup box, which I'm offering a years worth of Todoist premium for subscribing.

I'd love to PM you my site so you could take a look.

Nothing is working and its really starting to gut me. Its like 5 months of my life for 10 pence haha !!

The biggest thing that usually leads to a breakthrough in situations like yours is answering a simple question:

    - WHO are the people who come to your site, and WHAT do they really WANT?

Apart from that, here are my observations:

After looking at your site, here is what I think

    - There were just a couple of ads, so I'm assuming that you've taken the Adsense off. Otherwise the placement of the ads could be part of the issue

    - You could possibly charge for the App review service - but that link is broken so I'm not sure how it works.

    - Before you chose your keywords, did you check how much they would pay out, even if people click?

    - Finally, it may be that you have chosen a market that is not very "click conducive". Not all markets are created equal.

    - Your site could also do with a bit more personality. The writing at the moment is a bit impersonal. Plus, your article titles could do with a lot of improvement.

They need to engage the reader, make them curious. Again, what do your readers really want to read? What would make them want to come back?

What would cause them to talk about what they read on your site?

Just relating the technical stuff is not enough.

Here is a common misconception: people think that the more traffic you get, the more money you make. Actually this is only true if:

    - You have high quality, motivated traffic
    AND
    - You have something they are really looking for.

      Hi There,

The app review service was set to private. Thanks for the heads up, don't know how that happened.

Also, where is best to place my ads? any suggestions etc?

I've never checked how much the links payout.

Do you think I should sell the site and try a different niche?

I'm getting to the point where I could do without the stress, putting so much into something, for no return is a gutter.

      • Great advice here. Friend if you stay focused and make a decision to apply the golden advice that has been literally handed to you for free you will reap the rewards. OR you can move on, make the same mistakes and wonder why making money online is not working out for you. REMEMBER the fastest way to be successful is to surround yourself with successful people. This has happened for you in this great thread so I would take on the anazing advice given to you and focus on the small changes you have to make to start converting the traffic you are already receiving and then moving on to your next project. Just my 2 cents. MrG Freedom Fighter

Well, when you start a business you should ALWAYS do at least basic research to find out the earning potential.

The good thing is, you have learnt a lot of important skills like getting traffic - in fact a lot of people would like to learn how you did that. You can actually make some money from that.

As far as selling the site is concerned, ultimately it's your decision - it's not even clear whether or not it will make you money.

You'd definitely have to rework a lot of things - the content may be good for search engines but it's not the strongest for your visitors.

So weigh your options - the least you can do is to put in ads within the content itself. Just do a Google search for ad placement suggestions.

You can easily get an Adsense plugin, place the ads in the articles see what happens after a week/month.

But yeah, you should probably put your skills to a more profitable market - but do your research first!

My first course of action would to be to build a list.
Second I would work on bonding that traffic and cut down bounce rates such as allowing comments.
Third you might try contextual links in your content to affiliate offers. Here you don't drastically change the Aesthetics of your site.

I wish I could see your site to be able to structure my comment better. But first I will suggest you quit google adsense and see what those audience really want. How do they get to your site. Which keyphrase lands them on your site. Check your traffic stats.

You can profit from any audience, even if what they want is free stuffs. There are several CPA on free stuffs. I won't waste my time with adsense.

Simple. Join a CPA network and get email submit banners there. They do not have to buy to make money. You get paid per lead. However, read careful their guidelines and requirements, especially the allowed methods to send traffic, because they can shut you down.

With Adsense you get paid pennies. However, if more traffic comes to your website it tends to multiple. But for 600 visitors a day, CPA would work best.

I'm confused how CPA can help me, as its Cost Per Action? This is going to be worse for me? If they're not even clicking an Ad, surely they wont complete an action?

If they do not click on your ads that is a marketing issue. You can't send traffic who's interested in computer repair services and place ads on cooking. You need to know who's more likely to visit your website. Who are those people who are visiting your website? If you do not know your demographics, no matter what ad campaigns you are using, you are going to fail.

I have the same problem as the OP. I get 500 UV / day - 78% from the traffic is organic. I'm trying to earn with AdSense, but until now I only earned a few pennies.

I am also building a list, but most of the people don't sign up. Should I try a CPA network?

Here's a marketing issue again. If you know the people who are visiting your website, you know what offers and promotions to run. If they do not click or act, then you do not know the people who are visiting your website.

You got some good advice here.

If you really get 600 visitors a day, and they're not clicking, you may want to look into conversion.

How long do they stay on your website?

Do you provide valuable information that they would be interested in?

And just because they don't click on the Adsense ads doesn't mean they won't click on tempting offers!

Also, why not use some posts for reviews and recommending something.

And if your audience is interested in your service, why not write an article about how this service can help them etc., all with call to action.

Also, as someone suggested - focus on capturing some of these visitors -

Create an "ethical bribe" - a special report with some very helpful tips that your primary audience would be very interested in - and give it away in exchange for their contact info!

That will get you started with the monetization.

And CPA - you can combine that with both your blog and the follow-up sequence. Just tell them you've added another cool offer, make a post about it, and send them there.

But again - be sure that the CPA offers you pick fit well with the interests of your audience.

      Good luck!

Erm it is strange if you have so much traffic coming to your website but you are not making any money from Adsense. There are lots of very good content in this thread If I am you and I have a website that focus on just one topic, I will build a list from it so that I will have more control of the traffic as I can email them whenever there is a new post on the website.
