Seasoned Warriors: I need your advice.

Greetings all,

I am looking for advice on the best way to develop a couple of EMD's that I have. One of them receives about 40k searches and the other about 60k. Are these even worth my time developing or trying to seek a JV? One is in the health niche and the other is in the baking niche. I don't know if they would be good for ad revenue or adsense...or Clickbank. I am not quite sure what to do with them but I am tired to holding on to 350 domains that are making me no money at this point. I used to be in heavy to buying and selling domains (nothing overly large, anything from $40-$1,000) but that interest level in people is dying. Meanwhile I have renewals to the tune of $4k or more per year with no revenue coming in.

I don't consider myself a good web designer or writer although I have done some article work. I can get by using Wordpress and Xsite Pro but the ideas for developing are just not there for me - I am in just a mindless brain freeze mode. I don't expect to make thousands per month from my domains or future sites that may occupy these domains, but a couple hundred dollars per month sure would be nice.

...frustrated and looking for any suggestions from those of you who may have been where I am now.

Thanks,
Jim

One is 60,500 (competition medium) and the other is 40,500 (competition low) according to Google KW tool.

Sixty thousand and forty thousand exact matches are a lot for most any topic but there are two caveats: Google's numbers and the niches themselves being "buyer" subjects.

More and more people question Google's search numbers and say they are not realistic at all. I don't really know, but to me at least, if you have EMDs with EXACT match numbers like you're saying, then I would at least put up a site on the domains and see what you can get for them. A little bit of work into each site might increase the amount of your sale substantially.

If your EMDs are not "buyer" phrases, then you'll have a tough time making money with them. I would sell them for what I could get after putting a site up on them. I would put up a magazine style WP theme, add some content and nice graphics and let someone (your buyer) take over from there.

I don't know what the obsession is on here with exact match domains. They aren't worth anything.. Google doesn't take any notice of them, never really has.

What have market leaders ebay and amazon have to do with auctions or book selling? Absolutely nothing. What has 'Google' got to do with search engines for that matter.

I've wiped the floor of sites with EMDs dozens of times and knocked them off P1 without a domain any where near theirs. It's only content that matters with Google.

Interesting, i was reading in some other thread that EMDs preferred choice. In my few days of stay here, i see contradictory opinion on almost everything.

I think that EMDs have validity. I choose domains based on popularity and try to get as close as possible. Granted, google and eBay are not EMDs but the primary focus is not passive income. I want to build passive income sites on these and was looking for opinions on what others thought.

What do you all think, as far as search is concerned for a KW...what is a good amount of searches? I just thought that with the KWs in my domains and over 60k searches a month (according to google) that this may be a decent niche to try and explore.

EMD does have some validity. I have seen it myself and I jumped a couple pages after going EMD with a 301 from the old domain. It is not a necessity by any means but you have to make sure your anchor text is well planned when you start your campaign if you are not EMD, which of course is now mandatory anyway so as we move forward on this it will become less important. But as to the topic I totally understand wanting to recoup something from all those domains. Have you done anything to them or are they blank? at least toss up a small site with a email sign up page and see what happens at least then you are building a list.

No, at this point I have not done anything with them at all. I didn't think about putting a page up to collect a list, that seems to be a pretty good idea. I think that I will try and develop the baking site...just not sure how to go about it. I think that with all of these shows that are on TV that it could be a pretty decent site that would produce some adsense revenue and possible amazon purchases. I guess I won't know if I don't try.
