Do programmers hate outsourcers?

I just got my second project in two weeks at odesk.com trying to make money from it while I wait for my website to start running. What I do is basically work under a "team" so i outsource it to someone willing to do the job for a much cheaper amount. The first project worked great and I'm doing a new one with the same developers from India.

I'm just asking this question because it seems like outsrocers like me get a pretty bad rap from developers in north America. Just based on my experience talking to them about it..

If you're expected or claiming to do the work yourself, that's not good. If you're upfront that you outsource projects then it's fine.

I do part of the job which is obviously true but i always say that I'm hardly involved with programming or developing.

As long as you supervise the work thoroughly and make sure the quality is up to the standards, I think it is ok. I have done this myself, it's an easy way to make profits online.

You get a bad rep cause you hurt their income; you are no different/worse than any competitor in any field in any country so its okay... this is business...

    Hi LearnNOTMoney,

As a developer I want something decent for the money I'm paying you.

As long as you deliver me a quality product then I couldn't care less if you get your baby sister to create the product.

In my opinion the only reason you would be getting a bad rap is because:

    A. You're delivering a product which sucks.
    B. You're not sticking to deadlines.
    C. Your overall attitude sucks towards the developer.

If you deliver a good product, stick to the deadlines you are given by the developer and you have a good attitude then not only will you get a good reputation but you will also get referrals.

    Hope this helps.

    - Simon
