Gmail's latest set of changes is probably one the BEST THINGS that can happen to IM/AM

Think about it. Be honest about it. Here are just SOME of the reasons why GMAIL's latest changes can bring about positive change in the IM/AM industry
  • Forces list owners to manage expectations better
  • Forces list owners to provide better value to list members
  • It has the effect of REDUCING the 'desensitization' of consumers to the typical promotions run by list owners. Let's face it-spammy list tactics (hammering a list with multiple updates per day, unrelated offers, cheezy come-ons, etc) works only to "EDUCATE" the list members to never trust email lists...
  • Forces out people who are looking to get value while contributing little if any value to the lives of their list members
  • Will push list owners to redirect to a 'Gmail education' page after the optin instead of an OTO

What other reasons can YOU think of which support the argument that GMAIL's recent change will create a FLIGHT TO QUALITY?

Kind of vague - what changes are you referring to?

He's referring to the categorical tabs that Gmail just introduced into their mailing system. Many marketers are complaining that their emails are ending up in a tab called the "promotional" tab, which is separate from a user's personal or "primary" emails.

In general, open rates for gmail subscribers has decreased.

I noticed those were there...but never really looked. All the mail that goes into those categories also shows in my inbox so I haven't needed to look there.

So - for some people - this mail is going to that category and is not showing in the inbox also?

        Interesting

Gmail has always been unreliable for delivery as far as I've been aware.

I foresee that List Builders will just continue forward with new strategies to overcome this small hurdle. But I agree that it forces marketers to start providing more values instead of sending junk things.

Very true, it benefits the user and that's what google aims for.

You've heard of 'banner blindness'? There might be such a thing as 'email blindness.' GMAIL's latest move might cut down on that.

List owners can indeed become more responsible, but the problem is their emails are never going to be seen.
