Good host for a big launch

I'm in the final stages of producing a high quality membership tutorial product which I am hoping to launch in the next month or so.

Up until now I have all of my sites spread over two hosts on shared hosting 'Hostgator' & 'Justhost'.

I expect the launch of my membership tutorial to be fairly big in terms of traffic so I am wondering which might be the best hosting solution to launch with?

Anyone have an idea of traffic levels which warrant the use of a VPS?
If a VPS is the way to go does anyone have any recommendations for a high quality provider at a sensible price?

    I've been very satisfied with Rackspace Cloud Sites, and I found a way to host with them for only US$5/month. (Not an affiliate link; just happy to spread the word.) As I've been developing AboutTh.is, I don't need to use much of their firepower yet, (half a trillion hits per year), but any future traffic spikes will simply get delivered from additional servers as needed.

    Yes a scalable solution could be the best option. I took a quick read (following your link), looks very good. With this service do you get an administration dash (cPanel)?.

      They do not offer cPanel, and their admin panel appears sparse, but I've yet to have any issues with not being able to do something, personally. For example, I use the FTP ability offered in Windows 7, so I drag-and-drop files directly to publish them, rather than using a website, and that's fine for me.

      The Rackspace support team is dedicated to helping sites succeed, so certain things have to go through them, but that's a good thing in the big picture. For example, I found that I had to ask them to install MySQL database triggers, but they review each one manually to ensure my site's speed and security, at no extra charge.

    It's a long time since I used anything but cPanel, but the idea of a scalable solution at such a price is certainly worth looking at further. Have you set WP up on the cloud?
