Fellow Warriors,

I'm very curious about the following question:

If you started a blog to earn money, what top r things would you feel you MUST do in order to succeed well...

on the following topics?

Writing a business plan

SEO: most important things to do to rank fast

Three other things

Excited to see what everyone would do

Cheers,
Tijs

  • 1) I wouldn't write a biz plan... just an outline and a mindmap... then take action on my idea.
    2) stick to the plan and ignore all the noise out there... just ask warriors for help at each step that you have questions on.
    3) Once you start seeing money come in, make some estimates and decide if you want to add more methods or if the one you started is progressing fast enough... but just start with 1 method and stick with it till money is coming in, before moving on to another one.

    1) To rank fast... don't focus on Google unless you are going after really small sites with long-tale keywords.
    2) Do paid solo ads, and other paid methods that fellow warriors seem to have more success with then Google Adwords for fast traffic
    3) Build a list with a good free or low cost offer (Google can't touch that) and then... do articles, non spammy guest posting, On page optimization, creating videos, and be active on social media... over time, you will have rock solid SEO that will stick.

    1) Find what really motivates you and work on that. If you like to create, then create products, if you like to talk about the buzz and report what excites you, then blog and do affiliate marketing, until you feel like you want to create something.
    2) If you like the IM niche, look into creating a WSO, it seems to work for a lot of folks and be profitable. Regardless, create info or write things online that help people... you will be rewarded.
    3) Try one thing at a time until it generates money, or burns you out... then move on to the next method.

    Hope that helps.

    • 1. Increase your value by acquiring knowledge that people are either unwilling or unable to acquire themselves.

      2. Give value without wanting anything in return.

      3. Get yourself in front of the masses by promoting you blog.

Do this and your new blog will grow exponentially.

    2. Build trust
    3. Network

  • Hey,

I have been following Internet Marketing since the very early years. I used to write a lot of articles but basically everybody is doing it, there is a lot of competition with this. What about creating a short video? Maybe on how to do something like one of your talents. Then upload this onto YouTube. Google owns Youtube so if you do this right you are going to rank pretty high on Google for the keywords you use for your video.

I would also join a site like Stone evans Plug in Profit site, a lot of marketers have started this way. ewen Chia wrote a great book about Internet Marketing and I think he got his start with PIPS, Plug In profit site. another marketer You could learn some good stuff from is Joann barnes. She made money in her first year on the Net. Willie Crawford is another good one.

    I hope this helps

  • 1) Get people to sign up to your blog

    2) Write everyday, and monetize blog

    3) Drive traffic to your blog

    • Hi,

      1)
Provide killer content, stuff that engages your readers. I wouldn't say to write everyday, but 3 times per week as you start. This is up to you.

      2) Offer a valuable report for free with an optin box on your blog to start getting subscribers. You can create it by yourself or hiring a freelancer on Elance, Bizreef, or other platforms. I would say, first focus on providing amazing posts in your blog, and only after you got some trust from your readers, offer the report.

      3) Just focus on ONE thing at a time. This is vital and i mean focus on making your blog famous driving traffic to it. With driving traffic i mean LOTS of it. There are plenty of ways to drive traffic, just search them everywhere on the net or here at the war room.
Dont make the mistake of focusing on too many things or you gonna get lost.
Just ONE thing at a time and taking MASSIVE action is the road to success.

You'll probably fail sometimes but don't worry. All successful marketers and gurus have failed before making their millions. So you MUST experience failure in order to be successful. Just learn by your mistakes and always take action.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Man, this thread really inspires me to go post to my blog two or three times yet today.

I would add one more thing to the insightful advice you've already gotten: Don't give up. Don't believe it when people tell you that you can make scads of money with no experience and little time. It takes a lot of work, and you need to build skills. But you can do it. So don't give up. And good luck.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • 1) I will make sure that I have an opt in form on every page of the blog

    2) Offer something valuable to encourage them to give their details.

    3) Posting consistently and focus on driving more traffic to the blog.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Hi,
Jason put it succinctly. Make sure you post original content!!
    Good luck

    TAKE ACTION

    TAKE ACTION

I think you get the point.

    • That's great, thanks! I like all the answers.

So basically what I understand from this is doing the most important things stated by everyone in this topic and consistently applying them. And doing one new thing at a time is probably the best way not to lose time and lose track of what's important :-)
  • I agree with the business plan part. If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail. Serious talk.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks

  • 1. Focus on Current Applied Experience Value
    - Not what you did in the past, not what you would like to do in the future; but look at where you are this very moment, and what real world application you are actually in a position to experience today.

In my opinion, adding the real world context to the digital world contributes something irreplaceable - and unique(ly marketable). We all have many interests. The applied experience adds credibility, context, and a destination for your traffic funnel. It generates value that goes far beyond the crowded "traffic + product" marketplace.

    2. Business plan: Every job sucks
. Every market sucks. You shouldn't do anything because it's not going to earn you any money. Except, for some reason, those exceptions who make it lucrative, somehow, and make you resent them for succeeding at something you can only dream about.

So the business plan is: the people who say "lousy market, you should quit" are applying a limited creative perspective. Ignore them. Every market is ripe for innovation. The conversions aren't necessarily in the marketplace, they are in the customers you bus into the marketplace. When you understand them:

    3. SEO: Conversions aren't in the traffic data.
Conversions are in the demand. Traffic is a storm but not the lightning. You have to be a strategist and second guess your opponent. When you understand the demand, then the traffic will do more than search. They will stop for you. Traffic numbers are meaningless unless you get this right.

It's about what fills their need. Not yours.

Beyond this - I really have no idea what might work for you. GOOD LUCK.

    • Interesting post. Number one gives food for thought.. writing from the present moment and relating to things that are happening now must be a great way to connect with readers! Thanks :-)
  • 1) Plan ahead and have an overview. But don't 'over plan' in the sense that you are stuck in this stage and never taking action.

2)Take action on your plan. Learn extensively on the methods that you are going to employ.

3)Analyse your results. Review and improve on your plan. Optimize. Repeat 1 & 2.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Have a general plan but be flexible to change if you see an opportunity

    Build trust and establish yourself
  • Write good quality unique articles related to a specific industry or niche that offer some value
  • Start your own website and post about your journey about what you are doing and provide value.

Build an email list from the get go.

Learn how to get traffic to your site.

    • I'm curious. Do people post for the sake of posting?

While I realize this forum is a treasure trove of info. A massive treasure trove that I am still sorting through because there is just so much great stuff..

...I notice that it seems a lot of people post for the sake of posting.

When someone asks "How do I build a house?"

Does anyone respond "Buy some wood" ?

Hell, I just assume point the person to one of the cpl hundred threads that have been posted here already.

      Anyways....

      With regards to Tijs' questions...

I found this forum post very helpful with driving ppl to your site
  • I'd say:
    - set your goals first and know why you want to achieve them
    - do something to achieve theme Every Day
    - if it doesn't work, change your approach...
    That is the Success Formula
    Good luck,
    Art
  • If I may add to what others are saynig:

Manage expectations, it won't happen overnight.

Focus on one thing at a time, and put ALL your effort into that one thing.

When you find something that works, by the numbers, lather rinse repeat.

Good luck to you : )
  • 1. Set own goals first.
    2. Try to plan what to do to reach these goals.
    3. Take action immediately!
  • Set your goals, have a strategy and work for it. In big, build a wordpress blog, drive traffic, build a list haha
  • Here are the 3 more important things:

    1. Mentor
    2. Mentor
    3. Mentor

If you are unclear on what to do, you may waste so much time on pointless stuffs. Having a mentor solves that problem.
  • Here are the 3 most have

    1. Opt in to collect names of your visitors and follow up with them automatically.

    2. A food for thought content

    3. Follow up with your prospect the very min they came on board.
  • "If you fail to plan, you're planning to fail"
    -- Benjamin Franklin

Writing a business plan is THE most essential piece of the puzzle.
  • I would skip the business plan since newbies don't know enough yet to write a decent plan. The plan could be gold or manure and they wouldn't know either way.

SEO is basically dead aside from the common sense stuff that all websites should be doing (don't put vital text in images, etc...). The professional SEO guys, the ones who made a living gaming the system, are having to find new careers now. That should tell you enough.

    1. Work on your graphic design skills. Presentation is hugely important here in 2013 and moving forward. If your blog posts are huge walls of text, that is very problematic in today's environment.

    2. Study journalism. Most blog posts online are more similar to forum replies rather than well written pieces.

    3. Understand the business element of blogging.
  • 1. Study the business fundamentals (copywriting, customer service, project management, basic accounting, marketing principles, business financial planning, etc.).

    2. Find a coach and/or a mentor.

    3. Learn how to network and build relationships.

    4. Learn how to obtain traffic

    5. Learn how to convert that trafic.

    6. Learn when and how to outsource so that you can enjoy your free time.

    7. Continually educate yourself and feed your mind.

    8. Make sure you take a break every 45 to 60 minutes while you're working, this will actually increase your productivity.

    9. Eat well (stay away from processed junk and invest in a vita mix).

    10. Exercise at least 30 minutes a day, 3 to 4 x a week.

    11. Don't wait too long before your first project, once you learn the basics, get out there and let the market give you feedback.

    12. You don't need a business plan in the VERY beginning. But you should have at least some kind of outline of what you should focus on.

I couldn't limit it to just three.

  • My top 3 things would be these

    To make a start

    Focus

    And dont give up :-)

  • Whatever you do, business plan is the most important thing, it's a base of your business. You get succeed when you make a good plan and follow it,
    other than this,
You need to build strong presence, build trust with people.
    Be fair in your deals.
    Jump at every opportunity.

    • 1. Remember, it's not about you. It's about the readers, and for the most part, even they only care about one particular reader - themselves. Give them something they want, and they'll love you for as long as you keep giving it. (And by "give", I also include "sell".)

      2. Be consistent and transparent. If you suddenly change things in midstream, you'll create a disconnect that will confuse people and turn them off big time. Don't ever lie to people.

      3. Be patient. Unless lightning strikes, your early blogging will feel like you're shouting into a dense fog. You'll have no idea whether anyone is listening or not. That's one reason people are advised to pick something they are, or can be, passionate about.

If you incorporate as many of the practical suggestions above into this approach, you will make it.
