Is it just my computer or are there many sites down?

For the last half hour or so I can't get into Sitepoint, Getresponse, Clickbank or Commission Junction.

I'm a bit concerned with having so many sites at once that I can't get into that it might be a problem on my end.

Can everyone else get into these sites?

I think it is on your end. It is probably an IP issue with your service provider. It should work itself out sooner or later.

Thanks Shannon - you know about a year ago I changed to the best Internet Provider (apparently) in Australia and I've had nothing but trouble with them since. I might turn my modem off for a while and come back on and see if it is ok.

Hi Sheryl, Have you tried refreshing your browser. I had a member earlier who couldn't get into the site using IE, switched to Firefox and got right in? By the way "Love the hat".

I should try with firefox and see if that helps. I haven't turned my modem off yet as I'm running a scan - although I guess I can still run the scan without internet connection can't I.

Thanks - about the hat you can't see all of it though, it has a big purple number 40 sitting on top of it - that was on my 40th last year.

You wear your hat well, looks more like 25-30. You don't need to turn your modem off to refresh the browser or do a scan. Just sign off IE or whichever browser your using and switch over to Firefox. And, I do know with this last Firefox update, there have been more crash issues now than before.

Maybe Twitter is taking over all the remaining Cyberspace ( just kidding with this last one. ) Have a nice evening Down Under!

You said you have been having difficulties with your ISP so I will throw this in as it may actually be relevant. I know that where I live, quite often I get great connections but we generally get traffic spikes during certain hours and my connections go south on me ... and not in a good way.

In my case, I have discovered the problem in that they are not actually using a local ISP but re-routing through the telephone company's servers in the big city just North of me. (Which may be why it is a bad thing that my connections go south ... and having had problems with that particular phone company in the past, why I did not sign up with them directly)

In my case, the best solution was just not trying to get any work done during those times that required uploading or downloading anything more than the most basic of pages. It is a pain to work around but for me at least, unavoidable at the moment. Maybe track any difficulties you have like this and let your ISP know you are watching the spikes with a personal interest, they are hampering your business affairs (if they are) and ask them what can be done to rectify the situation. Crazy as it sounds, it may prove beneficial.

A lot of if but ...

      Very glad to hear that.

I know that I live on the other side of the world, but your provider might have a telephone number that you can call, which is automated, but informs you whether there is a problem with their service, for any reason.

The service is useful as if the provider claims that the Internet connection service is running normally, you have to assume that there is either a problem with your local telephone exchange, or a problem with you. Well perhaps not with you, but with your comms equipment.

It might be worth contacting your provider to see if they provide such a facility - it at least eliminates one aspect of the problem when the line does 'go down'.

      Regards,
      Jeff.

It was probably a DNS problem. The DNS is like the big directory where your computer resolves domain names to an actual IP address. If you're having problems, you won't be able to get to some sites unless you type in the actual IP address, which few of us know for any of the sites we visit. Reboot your machine or do a repair on your network connection by right clicking on the network connections icon in the tray on the lower right of your screen.

    Hope that helps.
