Amazon - Misery in Missouri

Looks like Missouri Amazon affiliates will get the axe. I just got the following email. I am not to torn up about it as I have very little income generated from one site.

"Greetings from the Amazon Associates Program.

We are writing from the Amazon Associates Program to notify you that your Associates account will be closed and your Amazon Services LLC Associates Program Operating Agreement will be terminated effective August 27, 2013. This is a direct result of the unconstitutional Missouri state tax collection legislation passed by the state legislature and signed by Governor Nixon on July 5, 2013, with an effective date of August 28, 2013. As a result, we will no longer pay any advertising fees for customers referred to an Amazon Site after August 27 nor will we accept new applications for the Associates Program from Missouri residents.

Please be assured that all qualifying advertising fees earned prior to August 28, 2013 will be processed and paid in full in accordance with your regular advertising fee schedule. Based on your account closure date of August 27, 2013, any final payments will be paid by October 31, 2013.

While we oppose this unconstitutional state legislation, we strongly support the federal Marketplace Fairness Act now pending before Congress. Congressional legislation is the only way to create a simplified, constitutional framework to resolve interstate sales tax issues and it would allow us to re-open our Associates program to Missouri residents.

We thank you for being part of the Amazon Associates Program, and look forward to re-opening our program when Congress passes the Marketplace Fairness Act.

Sincerely,

The Amazon Associates Team"

i hope this will not become a trend and that other states will follow suit with their own laws. some people actually find being an amazon associate quite lucrative and shutting it down in different states will really affect the way people earn online in these areas.

I got the same email today. This doesn't hit me too hard because Amazon isn't where I make most of my income, but it definitely changes some of my future plans. Frustrating.

Yep. I got the same email. Bummer.

I was just getting ready to ramp up my Amazon efforts. I had 3 sites, one of which had never made more than 2 sales total, and 2 that had actually done fairly well lately. In June, from those 2 sites, I had made a little over $300 and slightly less in July. All of the reviews were written by me, or outsourced to excellent writers, and each site had between 8 and 15 reviews plus additional article content added pretty frequently. I was going to start adding more content to those sites, and building a couple more.

Oh, well....... the best laid plans, and all that. Now, I have to decide if I want to go to all the trouble of incorporating in another state along with all that involves, or whether I will concentrate my efforts elsewhere.

All 3 of my sites could be converted to other affiliate programs without a huge amount of time involved, but in checking out other programs, most I have found don't pay very well. For example, one of my sites involves toys; I checked out Toys R Us - their affiliate program pays a whopping 3%, and Walmart is not much better at 4%. Time to dust off my CJ membership, I guess, and see what else I can come up with.
