What would you do next?

What to do next?

Im fairly new to this, "google" has helped me struggle to the point that I am at today.

December 2012, I started up my first website, the goal, to make a bit of money. Like most hot topics on the internet, there is a huge amount of information, misinformation and debate about how to go about this.

My niche is the fitness industry, to be more specific, it is the beginner to fitness that I am targeting. I know my topic and am passionate about it.

Before I started, I had no experience with website design or any IM methods. I still struggle with the technical stuff at times

This is what I have done so far
  • Created a website
  • Written 5 ebooks that are published using KDP on amazon, these books are part of a series so they act as up sells to each other. ( $2.99 each.) They are all advertised on my site.
  • Created a beginner home workout course (with bonuses) that can be bought directly from my website for $7.99. This is an up sell also from the books.
  • I have written a bunch of posts on this site that give away valuable information and help for the reader relating to the niche, I plan to continue doing this.
  • I have made this a membership site and give away a good freebie for signing up to my list
  • Created a facebook page that is regularly updated. (Also working on list building from here)
  • Published a bunch of the articles from the site on ezine articles and linked to my posts through reddit
I decided to come to this forum and see if I could glean any information from people who are successful marketeers and know what they are doing. I do not know anyone personally who is in this game so its pretty much me and google against the world.
Opinions, constructive criticism and guidance is what Im after.

Am I on the right track?
Is this niche too hard to break in to for someone of my capacity?
Ideas on what to do next to boost sales?
Can this site be profitable?
Have I made any big mistakes?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks in advance for any help.

    JimmyA,

    It seems to me you are on the right track. What I wonder is what you have done to market and promote your site, course and ebooks?

    You can have everything else in your selling system (funnel) perfect, but if no one knows what you're offering you're not going to make money.

    At this point I would focus on:
    • building an email list of folks interested in fitness, very targeted to your products;
    • building and promoting your ebooks through Kindle;
    • content marketing so you begin getting some promotion and backlinks to your web site;
    • driving traffic to each of your products.
    This forum and many of it's sub-forums are all about how to do these things. Make good use of the search function!

    The best to you in your new business.

    Steve

    Hi Jimmy,

    It seems that you really put some effort on your products and that you made a lot of the hard work.
    Fitness is indeed, a hard niche.
    What will you say is yout biggest problem ? You don't have traffic, or you have traffic but it doesn't convert ?

    If you don't have traffic then you need to do some in depth keyword research.
    If the traffic's there, but you are not getting conversions, then analyze where that traffic is comming from, and revise the pricing of your products.

    A good idea, even when it implies spending some money is select a few keywords that look interesting to you, and run a small budget adwords campaing for those keywords. Then, stick with the keywords that convert, and focus your SEO efforts on them.

    Hope this helps.

    Juan

    Are you getting any traffic through your efforts? If not, then you're definitely not on the right track. But if you are, figure out how to monetize that traffic.

    "On paper" it looks like you are definitely on the right track. What have your results been so far? How many Kindle titles are you selling? How well is your upsell doing?

    Thanks for the quick replies. Its good to know that so many people will give up there time to send a bit of help out.

    I forgot to mention: This is my second website that has been up and running about a month. I still have my first site active, but the structure and content was not inkeeping with my products. This site is in the fitness niche also but it has a broad reach. It gets around 200 visits per day. I do use this to push some traffic over to the new site.

    Im getting between 30 - 130 visits per day on the new site. I know these figures are low.
    I have used basic SEO and Im considering paying for it although I hear that this is a waste of money? Because keyword research and SEO are so easy. This is one thing that I struggle with and it is more than likely the thing that is holding me back.

    My kindle books are selling on Amazon and I do get some commissions for sending customers from my site. But i think that Amazons sales platform is responsible for nearly all of the sales. I have not had an upsell yet for the $7.99 product on my site.

    So I guess that my problem is getting targeted traffic to my site and converting it.
    I had a look around these forums and there certainly is a huge amount of info here. Its kind of easy to lose focus with all of the different ideas, business models etc that you come across. But I have found some good advice.

    Il defiantly look at "running a small budget adwords campaign" I have not heard of that yet but Il look into it

    Thanks guys
