Creating Sites and Selling them on Flippa

Hey guys, i haven't seen much discussion about creating sites purely to sell and not giving them a chance to flourish.

What are your views on writing about 10 articles for a site, inputting some images, maybe doing a bit of back linking, and then selling it on flippa? Have you ever tried it before? I'm itching to try but every time i do i gt "broody" and dont want to sell it.

If you have tried it, what is your experience with it?

It's funny you say that, I made one in april, added 7 pages in total including privacy and contact page.

The site has been making an average of $173 per month and I decided to put it on flippa a few days ago.

It's had 8 bids at $305 and still 4 days remaining

Quite excited, it's my first time selling a website

It is easy to create a site but hard to monetize. It's hard to sell a non-earning site. I was doing the same thing years ago even before Flippa migrated from sitepoint marketplace. I think I sold a dozen of sites (all earning sites) and the highest amount I sold from a single site was $4,650. Lowest was $480. I stopped doing so when those bundles of autoblogs started to scatter around. I decided to maintain my own authority sites instead of selling them.

It needs a lot of work especially now that Google is tough... Your site must have unique content, alexa/pagerank, and some earnings in order to be more competitive. A facebook page with a lot of likes/fans and some subscribers in rss will be a huge factor as well. A site that is earning around $100/month can be sold up to $1500.

I always publish unique content on all my sites. Sounds exciting my listing is at $305 just now and has 4 days to go, 18 watchers and over 200 views. It's in the category a few times for the high ranking sites which will help give it some exposure.

I would not sell that site lower than $600 If it is mine.

I have a reserve at $800, might be a bit high but I want as much as I can for it. If it doesn't sell, I will drive more traffic and keep it and earn more.

I've sold MANY sites over the years and I still haven't listed on Flippa. From what I can tell, they've really pissed in the pool. As a seller of legit, monetized & seasoned sites - it seems to me that there are too many bogus listings + amateur sellers on Flippa which can equal an erosion of a real industry and qualified buyers. Don't get me wrong, any truly monetized site holds value and is sellable BUT when you start filling a marketplace with silly little sites for sale that were registered the day before and OBVIOUSLY have no revenue, it just becomes worthless and tainted. I'd suggest listing on more reputable sites like BizBuySell or BusinessesForSale, etc... (no affiliation). Quality marketplaces with qualified buyers.

Flippa is the largest marketplace for websites and if you sell a good site with quality content it is bound to sell well especially if it has substantial daily traffic as well. There are numerous prospective buyers who look for sites that have traffic and that can be easily monetized.
