Can I somehow check where my articles are getting traffic from?

Is there any easy way to check where my ezine articles is getting their traffic from?

I have a few articles that are getting some small but steady traffic each day,
but some of them are nowhere on google.

Is there any way I can check where the visitors are coming from, so that I know if they are from google, yahoo, msn or ezine article itself?

By knowing this I will know which articles to promote.

Sincerely
Karl

Your web hosting account may already have a stats software that you can use. If you have a cPanel hosting account, for example, you should have Awstats installed (look under the 'Logs' section). I also recommend using Google Analytics if you haven't already. It's arguably the best free website statistics service out there.

There are also few sites that allows you to install their tools at yout site that eventually finds out, where are the hits coming from.

      Karl, I don't think so....

EZA does show some stats, but I don't think that they show referrer for the visitors...

Click on your article with something like seoquake installed and then check the SE for all of the different variations of 2,3,and 4 word keywords that it shows and you might find your answer there.

The more important question for me though is....

      Why does it matter?

The traffic is coming from one of 3 places probably....

      1. Bookmarks if you bookmarked your article
      2. RSS if you submitted its feed
      3. Google, Yahoo, or MSN for some sort of long tail phrase even if it is one that you didn't specify in your tags.

Just be glad that you are getting the traffic to your article instead of spending time trying to figure out where it is coming from

Still, I would think you would want to know some of that info to get a better idea of what is working and what isn't, wouldn't you?

You're right on the money there.

If the referrer is targeted and responsible for a significant portion of (buyer) traffic then it makes good business sense to drill down into the analytics of who/what/when/where/why drives your targeted traffic for the purpose of leveraging those variables as well, that online property to scale the business further... with the calculated promise of driving EPC (visitor value) higher and focusing one's future resources specific to feeding the newfound money-trough.

To say otherwise is just plain bad advice.
