Tips For Marketing An eBook?

I've considering writing an eBook entitled:

"How To Make Money Freelance Writing."

I've been a full time writer for over 2 years now...

Consistently making $500+ a week....

Only working around 10-15 hours a week.

I'm just now sure how to market an eBook?

Essentially, I'd make a product page (domain + hosting w/ eJunkie).

I'd probably also make a Facebook page for the product.

Then drive traffic.

Any tips outside of that?

Nowadays, I've seen all book launches supported by a blog (Pitch Anything, by Oren Klaff, is a good example of this).

    What he did:
    1) Launch a blog that offers great value whether you bought the book or not.

    2) Build a list by giving away excerpts (before the book is out) if possible.

    3) Webinars! For this niche, webinars are extremely effective. No need for 100% live webinar, if there's value people will join.

    4) If the webinar is too much of a hassle, create quick tutorial vids covering parts of the book, share them on your youtube channel and then throw 'em into youtube's advertising (it's cheaper than you think).

I wouln't focus on facebook too much, there's many other social outlets for folks that are into writing and want to make money. Less users but higher interest.

Lastly, Soren got into the right path by getting interviewed a lot. Some interviews were shitty (mixergy), other were amazing
    (chase jarvis).

Video interviews go a long way and find their way to a bigger audience than any landing page (you can mix both of course!).

Not your typical "marketing ebook marketing" tips, but you'll get plenty of those.

    Good luck

Partnering with e-book blogs will greatly help market your e-books. The reviews made by these blogs are very influential to people especially those who are still doubtful on buying the e-book or not.

Who is going to take my word for it? Very valid point!

I would target the freelance writing blogs out there. The generic "work at home job leads" type of blogs may work as well. Ask the owners for a review of your book or consider purchasing ad space. Many that want to freelance begin by visiting these blogs, and that's who you want looking at your book.

Another idea is to join work at home forums such as WAHM.com or workplacelikehome.com. Add a link to your sales page in the signature and engage in discussions to get your link seen.

I always suggest using one of the oldest marketing strategies in the book, and that's offering the 1st few chapters of your ebook for free, as a teaser...

Hardly revolutionary info I know, but it still works like a charm and allows you to build a list in the process...

You could even take this idea and tweak it a bit. You can content lock the ebook and then if the person shares the link to your offer to their facebook page or twitter page then they get that ebook for free. This is a simple way to use the power of one to multiply your ebook sales.

Make a nice eCover for it and a solid sales copy.

    As far as promoting it:

    1. Give away a portion (or a separate, short report) for FREE and build a list
to promote your ebook to (and your future products and services.)

    2. Forums

    3. Kindle Store

    4. WSO Section on this very forum

    5. YouTube

    6. Blogging

    7. Ebook marketplaces (I don't have any specific recommendations)

    8. PPC

    9. Craigslist (?)

    10. Media Buys (Banner ad on a popular, related site)

    Best,
    Shane

I have used a lot of "grass roots" type marketing tactics for ebooks and membership sites, and I found that putting my offer in "the line of traffic" is a much more rewarding and profitable approach.

eBay and Amazon are two huge market places where you can put your product in front of many BUYERS quickly. People go to those market places to buy stuff. They have their wallet in hand.

You can test and tune your product easily by listing it on eBay. You need to offer it as a physical product. Sell it on a "DVD" or "thumb drive". Just copy your PDF file to a DVD or flash drive, and now you can sell it as a physical product. You can simply ship these as a DVD or thumb drive fit in a US Post bubble mailer.

See how many "hits" you get on your listing page. Update the title and description to draw more buyers. If you are getting lots of hits to the listing page but not many buyers, then you know you need to improve the sales copy on the listing page.

Some other side benefits of marketing your product on eBay is that Google will pick up your listing page quickly and you can draw traffic from Google for your listing key words, as well as the traffic you pick up from eBay searches.

If it would be helpful to you for me to create a video that walks through these steps, let me know. I'm happy to help.

eBay is a great market place and there are many ways to leverage that market place easily and at no cost...as you can sell what you promoting :-)

    All the best! Kenny

      IndieBookLounge

It's a website for indie authors. There's a Business section there that doesn't have many books listed. eBooks and how-to's are allowed.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am the owner of the site. PM me if you decide to put your ebook up there and I'll make it a "Book-of-the-Day" for business.

I made over a million from this little dinky site.

I probably spent a total of $200 in PPC when I first started it.

But the articles continue driving traffic to the site (from the organic listings.)

I give it away now, but I have a massive list that I'll be able to blast when I finish the two big follow-ups I've been working on.

Of course, this time, I'll be doing things differently.

For one, I'll use Clickbank as my payment processor. And once I prove my copy converts with hard data, I'll attract and go after the big time affiliates (who will spend their own resources making me money.)

I'd obviously recommend you do the same.

Since I haven't read your product, I can't give you specific advice on positioning yourself, but there's a lot of people who'd love to make a living (or at least earn a supplemental income) freelance writing.

So I'd go after the "work from home," "stay at home moms," "stay at home dads" type of markets.

You could also do a killer WSO and appeal to fellow warriors who want to write their own copy.

    Just thinking out loud...
