How to start internet marketing with a $20,000 budget?

Hey y'all

Thought this would be a fun one for a Sunday night. Plenty of "how do I get started with $2.50" threads, but never seen one at the other end of the scale.

So.... if I "only" have $20,000 to invest in my Internet Marketing career (obviously with the objective of making it my full-time job) - what should I spend on it to get going? Is it enough?

If you had that money when you started out, what would you have done? And by how much time do you think it would have reduced your learning curve? Or would you have just blown it and ended up with nothing? Sometimes organic growth is best....

Thanks - look forward to your thoughts.

Hamza

PS. Before I get bombarded with coaching offers and begging letters, I might not actually have a $20k budget.

I Would find a good converting funnel, whether that be your own product or leveraging someone elses that has the ability to pay for your advertising expenses as you are marketing (with a back end offer to raise profit margin).

I would determine ONE 'paid' strategy to master like FB PPC (my favorite), Solo ads, Banners ads, direct mail, etc. I would take $3000 the first month and just blow it seeing what types of ads work, and what doesn't. With the small percentage of ones that work, keep doing those ones over and over again scaling up since an ad that works will keep you in profit initially and also with back end major earning potential ...with nothing left to do but to invest as fast as you can to get substantial results in a short time period, then RE-SELL THOSE RESULTS.

Get a good coach that will give you one on one training. Or you could go the Youtube route and do a search for the different subjects of Internet Marketing.

    20K?

Create a new brand, register trademark, get a central office in a busy town, get 2 IM'ers with 2 years plus experience + skills in WP, copywriting, basic/medium SEO, graphic design, video, etc etc etc... and get the ball rolling with a small sales team paid with high percentages (45-65% of each sale).

Add a coffee machine, friday evening diner with party night out for everyone + their loved ones, and yearly sharing of profits (usually 10%-20% for workers).

If that doesn't make it, nothing will.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

With $20K I would prefer to become master in paid advertising.
Once you master paid advertisement, then there are too many options, with paid advertising the opportunities are endless.

Get a squeeze page and drive lots of targeted traffic to it. If you do this, then you can make some good money! find your niche, get a squeeze page up. Then, drive traffic (paid traffic) and build, that list.

Next, build relationships with list and offer promote affiliate products or sell your own. There is no magic formula, majority do this and make money.

BTW, something like this could cost you $500 to $1000..

IM is all about hard work. A little money to pay for things you need along the way is great but if you want to still be here in a few years time, put the money to the side, pull out the fingers, and get working. Most of what you need to be successful in this industry will cost you nothing at all.

I wouldn't spend any of it until I knew what I actually wanted to do. IM is a huge field and there are thousands of ways to spend your money. Regardless of whether it's $2 or $20k, think before spending.

Great question. I'm interested to read the replies, because I don't know the answer, but my only advice would be to spend it on learning everything you can before investing. Buy books, talk to other people who have been successful, etc..

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

I'm always going to be the boring guy here: What I would do is stretch that out as living expenses for myself, spending as little as possible. I'd start a blog and I'd write every single day about what I've learned, what I've thought about. I'll draw up a daily routine for myself- participate on forums for a period of time, write for a period of time, practice copywriting, study and research the competition. I'll do this intensively for about 6 months and learn everything there is to learn. From there I might consider getting a coach. I'll probably get into ecommerce somehow. I'd try to develop some sort of original content. I'd blog like crazy. I'd go around helping people as much as I possibly could.

I bet by the time I run out of $10,000, I would have a bunch of ideas and perspectives that I don't have now, and I'd be in a much better place to make decisions. I'd have built a network of friends and peers in the community. I'd volunteer to help out here and there.

I might at some point stumble upon something potentially valuable worth doing. But I'm pretty certain it's near impossible to "think up" something valuable- anything that can be thought up has been thought up already. You have to find an existing need and plug it, and human ingenuity is no match for preparation + happenstance.

Hope that was useful! Fun to think about. This sort of question always makes you think about what you're doing right now.

$20 is the same as $20,000. Learn how to spend $20 correctly, and then you'll know how to spend $20,000. Tomato, tomato.

Keep your money bro. If you want, just spend a couple hundred dollars on creating an useful product and build up your contacts...The rest if you really wanna blast it then blast them on the right education. It'll pay you back manifolds.

Just my two cents worth here though
