Is branding not important for ebook writers etc.?

I was talking to a web designer recently and he told me that there is no point in trying to become "known" if you are selling "fitness" ebooks, "how to" ebooks, or any category of ebook that is common because nobody remembers the names of the guy behind them unless they are very successful and in a very short amount of time people will copy it and put it up on fiver, their blogs and other.

Is this true, if not what are the fundamental branding methods that need to be utilised?

Thanks just looking for opinions.

Your Web designer is wrong. Branding is always important. I don't care what you are selling.

If you are selling something and no one knows who you are you are always starting from scratch. You don't have to Brand yourself to a specific e-book, but brand your self as a seller, so when people see you they recognize who you are.. Are you more likely to buy an ebook from someone you've heard of or someone you have never heard of?

Extending that, how likely are you to buy an ebook from someone from whom you've already bought one or more ebooks you liked?

This applies to both fiction and nonfiction.

Expanding on what John and Halo_PC said, branding not only brings a familiarity to a name, but a reputation as well.

What good is it to know a name but nothing about that name? By branding yourself or your product, you take the guess work out of the equation. Branding works not only in the product creator's favor but the consumer's as well. What you should be concentrating on is building a trustworthy brand name. Some brands exude quality while others exude crap.

Have you heard the phrase China crap, for example? I know tons of people who loathe the "Made In China" tags. Unfortunately they've branded themselves as producing junk. On the other hand, they do sell quite a bit of junk and are profitable in the "can't afford quality" camp which brings me to my next point.

You should not only work on branding but to whom exactly that brand will be targeted to.

As for your friend, his advice reminds me of advice crooks would give as they move around from place to place to avoid being caught all the while changing aliases more times than teenage girls change their clothes. They change aliases because they know they have branded the real name and the last alias poorly.

Branding is the basis of all successful business.

How else would we recognise them? Google wouldn't be Google if it wasn't for it's colourful logo nor would Warrior Forum be Warrior Forum without it's clear brand identity.

It's highly important. Branding your ebook makes it more valuable. When you build a rapport and make people feel like they know you. They're more likely to read the ebook, keep it and not refund, refer friends & family to the ebook, and to buy from you in the future. Your web designer should stick to web designing lol, that was terrible marketing advice.

Sorry but I really didn't read all the reply of this thread. But As I know It is really very helpful and important to do branding as author. It is right that there are tons of authors, who writes in the fitness niche and How to Books. But lot of them don't know or don't care about branding. This is because they haven't enough interest or knowhow about Branding. With branding you can get recognition and recommendations. Your readers will love to be connected with you and they will feel great to read someone's book that has a good branding and reputation. You will get more sale!

It partly depends on what kind of business you're trying to build. If you're simply publishing a lot of books on Kindle in a variety of subjects then it might not matter.

But if you're trying to sell fiction in one genre or non-fiction on a specific topic then I'd say branding is still important. It increases your chances of selling book #2, book #3, infinity.

Funny, but I can remember the name Charles Atlas from a half-century ago when I think of fitness programs.

It's pretty tough to build a successful author platform in a reasonable amount of time if you're promoting a Kindle book. It's somewhat easier if you're producing high value, whether fiction or nonfiction, to more narrow markets outside the Amazon selling sphere. Chances are if you become well known first among a smaller circle of advocates you can use that relationship to leverage the broader Kindle market.

Branding is good for everything ESPECIALLY eBooks (or printed books).

People will buy a Stephen King book just because...it's a Stephen King book.

Hell, they might not even know what the book is about at the time.

You can make money without branding but...

Whoever told you that is 110% wrong.

Branding in the Health/Fitness niche is VERY helpful.

In fact, it could triple your earnings if not more.

People like to get to know you, trust you, see you.

In that niche, just connect with them on a personal level and...

It'll be worth your time. Resell, resell, resell.

It is very important to become a brand if you want to succeed on any business otherwise you have no difference, no advantage, no edge over your competition.

I agree, branding will help you no matter what you are selling. It never hurts to be known especially if you are selling products and make a living out of this. Just make sure you find the right strategy of branding that can benefit your business!

Branding is paramount. it's the difference between your product and your competitors. Plus if you use affiliates and have the right branding they will run with it and in a lot of smaller niches you will end up as the go-to solution simply because the audience in your niche will recognize your brand.

I always use branding for my products and it really does work.
