      Hey Josh,

      Start reading it immediately......

But, after you have finished reading it.....take action on what
      you have learned....

It's a good reminder....I think I should read it again...

      Regards

      Greg

I can easily see how if your can apply the principles and "get it" you can become incredibly wealthy.

It is actually astounding to see some of the people he interviewed to create the book.

          Go get it!

It costs maybe $1 as an eBook.

Good timing - I'm just rereading Napoleans Hills "A Year Of Growing Rich". I go back and read his stuff all the time.

I just finished a book called The One Minute Entrepreneur - which was pretty good too, and yesterday I reread The Richest Man In Babylon.

              Get reading.

Best book of its type I've ever read. Changed my life. I've done things I nver would have, and not just in the IM arena, because of it. And the kicker...

                ...I never finished it.

THE classic self-help book by far. But if you just read it, it is useless. As with anything, you must implement what you learn.

FYI - Another great book is Charles F. Haanel's "The Master Key System". There is a letter that Napoleon Hill wrote Mr. Haanel in which Mr. Hill gives him credit for his success. Here is a free ebook of this book:

Think and Grow Rich will always be my absolute favorite self-improvement book.

I think Think and Grow Rich should be required reading for IMers. It's THAT good. I give it away as a bonus with my Chimp Change report.

Obviously, reading it and applying it are different, so you have to apply what you read in it otherwise it's just a nice collection of stories written in ways people no longer write anymore.

Yes, a powerful book. Providing one understands it AND takes action on it.

But it's heavy going, and wouldn't be my first recommendation to anyone new to personal development.

If you're just starting your journey to personal success and high self esteem I would recommend you study the simple principles espoused by acclaimed business philosopher Jim Rohn.

The first book that I remember actually considering being a self-development book that I read was 'Jonathan livingston Seagull' by Richard Bach. They later made a film of it - which sucked more than any other film I've ever seen

I don't know. They made some pretty bad films around that time.

I remember one film involving birds that John Landin did that was much worse.

Kind of like Jonathon Livingston Seagull except without any reasonable music.

                                Like slow torture.

Think and grow rich is worth reading.

For the crowd who liked the movie "The Secret" you'll quickly realize there was absolutely nothing original of any kind in that movie.

Think and Grow Rich was actually written to presell the Laws Of Sucess product.

So in a way it's a very long sales letter.

It's enormous success came as a bit of a surprise to its author and I'm pretty sure it didn't help a whole lot in selling Laws of Success either.

Napolean Hill was near penniless near the end of his life.

I think that should teach you that being wealthy is a process not a destination and you gain physical wealth with your actions.

It doesn't mean the knowledge in the book is any less valuable.

It was gathered from some of the wealthiest men in history. Hill was a bit like an old day teleseminar promoter gathering information from a wide variety of sources.

                                Kindest regards,
                                Andrew Cavanagh

I just read it one time but hear it so many times because I also have an audio that I sell at my site. Basically, not all people do the same. Maybe because he loves writing and not selling
It was just commissioned to him and for 25 years...wow it was an amazing research.. he just planned and not giving an action on it or at that time money is not that important to him but acknowledgment. It is still one of the best classic motivational book.

Here's a list of books I consider MUST READS and the order in which I'd recommend you read them:
                    1. Psycho-Cybernetics
                    2. Think and Grow Rich
                    3. How To Win Friends and Influence People
                    4. Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion
                    5. Getting Everything You Can Out Of All You've Got
And here's my 3 step plan for getting the most amount of good out of them
                    1. Read
                    2. Implement
                    3. Reference (everyon can use a good refresher every now and then)

                      I agree LanceK.
There is more than just reading involved. And there is more than just Think and Grow Rich.

Your list includes my favorites and makes a point that there is more than one way to skin a cat.

We all have different abilities and we learn at different rates and with different back grounds. What speaks to one wont always speak to the rest. It is good to search and expand and grow at a pace and depth that works for that individual.

My all-time favorite so far is Psycho Cybernetics.

                      Cheers!

If you like Think and Grow Rich you should check out the movie The Secret (indirectly linked earlier in the thread). There is alot of information being published on the law of attraction and power of thought these days.

Also I don't know if I am allowed to direct link but there are some old school videos of Napolean Hill on youtube (if you haven't seen them!)

I personally think The Secret is more of an introduction to the Law of Attraction that Think and Grow Rich explores on a deeper level. If you plan to read both, then I would read The Secret first.

Right. This book more covers the other 3 Laws that go with it as well. While The Secret has probably helped a lot of people it's only part of the big picture, which Think And Grow Rich really deeply explores through lots of case studies, people, and establishing a good mindset.

Thinking this is a "course" of some kind if probably wrong. What it says can apply to anything. From skydiving to internet marketing to playing the stock market to getting over a fear of heights. It's an amazing book.

The audio has editor comments added in that give some updated examples to the original and explain some outdated details as well.

Josh, this is THE BIBLE of Personal Success. Read it now and practice it to your best ability.

Read it again and do the same.

Read it again and do the same.

And forty years later, read it again and do the same.

I haven't started making them yet but watch for "mind movies" for your goal setting, affirmation and visualization. -

I've had the PDF downloaded for ages. I tried so many times to read it, but for some reason just couldn't get into it.

Then, a couple of weeks ago I saw a copy of it at a used book store and picked it up. I'm almost finished and I've been loving it!

    Absolutely.

Of course, we're not alone. Much of what you see from "The Secret" and other motivational authors such as James Ray, Joe Vitale, Brian Tracy, Tony Robbins, etc... etc... etc... all comes from this and "The Science Of Getting Rich" by Wallace Waddles.

    Get it.
    Read it.
    Apply it.

              Avenuegirl,

You mentioned you have the audio version of TGR on an ipod. That made me remember that I have a mint 33 1/3 vinyl record of Think and Grow Rich with Napoleon Hill reading the book. Dated 1950.

A few years ago I put it on eBay and go no response. I do see that USB turntables are available so maybe I’ll try again, or not!

I forgot to ask if you know what 33 records are. They weren’t very popular when you were a kid.

Hey Vorales: Wallace Wattles is one of my favorite writers. I read "The Science of Getting Rich" until the corners of my book turned to "dog ears".

Then I found the streaming audio version on a site called Open Source Audio. Here's the link - it's free. You can also download the chapters to burn to a cd.

Internet Archive: Details: The Science of Getting Rich

Whenever I need to work at my computer, but don't feel as motovated as I would like, I just fire it up and let it run in the background while I post to my blogs. It gets me going every time. Enjoy.

Most definitely a great read. I read it years ago, and I cannot reiterate what some of the other warriors have said - you must put it into action.

In terms of Internet Marketing, but really - in all businesses, I find that the best advice given was that you will achieve what you want by helping others achieve what they want. It is a way of doing business that will ensure success.

Of course, I love the mastermind groups too. It would be interesting to see a companion guide for modern day tools for the books concepts...hmmm...maybe I will write that!

Either way - read the book. You do not have to pay for it, as you can download it for free. But, I love my paperback copy that is all marked up - it is worth the $10 or so I paid years ago.

Think & Grow Rich is a great read. Very intertaining (lots of stories. Everyone loves stories!)

But for me, I found it to be very cryptic. Mr Hill tells us that he is teaching us a secret. He doesn't come out and tell us what the secret is...(I guess it wouldn't be a secret, then, would it?). But he states that the secret is in plain sight within each and every chapter.

I've read this book probably 4 times over the last 20 years, but I find it leaves you guessing as to what the real key to it all is.

For me, one of the best books I ever read on self-improvement was "Being The Solution" by Darel Rutherford. Mr. Rutherford's story is very inspirational. He went from a total interverted "mute" (wouldn't talk) to a self-made, multi-millionaire. This book truly taught me the secret of how to get life changing results down to the very depths of my core.

I'm going to give you a link to the book. If you go there you can download the first 4 chapters for free. He also has a free newsletter that is very inspiring, too

I am not affiliated with Mr. Rutherford in any way and do not profit from you checking this out, other than knowing I may have turned you on to something you will be thankful for, for a very long time.

I got my copy back in 2002. Back then D.R. sold this along with the e-book, for the same price. I bought it and Darel Rutherford signed my copy with a personal note inside the cover. Nice touch. And a very approachable man. At least he was, back then, taking personal phone calls, etc... He is getting up there in years, so I don't know how accessible he is now-a-days.

    Here's the link:

    Being The Solution

Go check it out. He gives you the answer to Napolian Hill's secret in clear detail, and that's what I love about it. (Napolian, couldn't you have just come out an told us? Darel did.)

    Enjoy,

    Adam

P.S. The other great self-help book in my life was Catherine Ponder's classic, "The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity". Available at Amazon.com. The book is broken down into 2 parts. The first part is Pure Gold. Part 2 got a little to Metaphysical/Airy Fairy for me. But still a great read. Back when I first found this book (years ago) I followed her instruction, and doubled my income from $20,000 to $40,000 in one year, doing the same job.

This is a very good book, but no matter how good it is if you don't find a way to have the principles in your mind day and night it will not change your life.

You have to find a way to speak out loud what you want to change in your life and where you want to go, be, have etc. and you have to be relentless with this process.

The foundation for this successful philosophy is persistence and perseverance over a period of time.

I've read it several times and wouldn't consider it a motivational book - but a book that gives you a certain mindset being that as long as you [have the proper motivation] and drive you can achieve any level of success you want.

There are two types of people out there - Those who say "Oh, I could never do that!" and those who say "Ok, How can I make that happen..."

I employ people to do some performance-based work for
me. I draw them from the general job-seeking population.

For awhile I was very easygoing about hiring them - and I
never cracked the whip or gave them a hard time about doing
the work - and guess what?

They didn't produce much in the way of results.

This happened many times and I started to suspect that they
were pretty much flakey and not self-motivated.

The solution I have been testing is to insist that anybody who
wants the job must read "Think and Grow Rich". While
I am not a rabid fan of the book it is somewhat of a standard
      within success literature.

In the respect that this new strategy weeds out the illiterate
majority who cannot be bothered to read the book it
has been successful. Less of my time wasted on non-
      motivated people.

A sort of litmus-test, if you will.

    Hello,

TO the best of my knowledge you are what you are today for two reasons.

    1. the book you read

    2.the people you interact with.

Yes, the book is excellent to my own rating but may have another rating when you read it.

The summary of the book is just look around your enviroment and find out what the successful ones' are doing and move to that direction even when you dont have anything like money but summon courage.
